Golfer Reviews
A fair challenge
Afternoon round with good GolfNow price. Pace of play felt worse than it was. 4.5 hours with a wait on 15 of the 18 holes. Ranger was pleasant but useless.
I have played this course for a few years but it has fallen into disrepair.
Not Bad Overall
I was overcharged at the counter $10. The person was a little overwhelmed because f a line. He offered me a rain check, the problem is I can only use that $10 rain check on golf. I wanted to use towards golf balls during my next round and could not. My next round was for a tournament that I had to pay on-line. This was a big hassle and the staff should have just refunded my money. I do not play this course often.
Nice afternoon
Empire Ranch is a good course, typically in good condition. Only issue is sometimes it's a bit crowded and pace of play is slow.
Interesting layout, great finishing par 3
Good layout in good shape, not tricked up, what you see is what you get though driver is not a good pick on some of the short par 4's. It backed up and pace of play slowed dramatically on the back nine. No bar cart (it was a Monday) and typical of most courses today there is minimal yardage markers (almost need a range finder to play the game anymore). And my pet peeve: why on Par 3's do golf courses not have a small yardage sign next to that day's tee markers?? Let's look around for a distance monument buried on the far side of the tee box and when we eventually find it realize we've grabbed the wrong club, go back to the cart, re-figure the shot, then pull another club. Is speed of play not a concern in the game of golf, I mean WTF? Sorry, needed to rant. Empire Ranch is a good course, the long Par 3 finishing hole is elevated high above the green and is fun and challenging, go play it!
Course is gradually deteriorating
I've played this course multiple times weekly for 4+ years. The superintendent was replaced in January (unfortunately). There are now dead grass spots all over the course that were not there during the drought. I've heard they are now short handed and trying to hire more staff. I hope things don't get worse. This used to be the premier public course in Sacramento county. It can be again if they get to work, including a deep raking of the bunkers now and then. They are getting really hard packed again.
Great public course, needs serious bunker investment
Love this course. Play it 4 to 5 times a week. Staff is very friendly. Course is forgiving. Current condition is very good, although greens have become too slow.
Bunkers are a serious problem. The have very little sand on top of a lot of clay. And the sprinkler system soaks them unnecessarily. In the winter the drainage is non existent.
Pace of play is a constant challenge. Marshalls need to be encouraged/allowed to push players to move on. SIRS and tournaments should not be allowed to choke up the course.
WET BUNKERS-SLOW GREENS
Play here on a regular basis but things have changed the greens used to be the best with consistent speed to putt on, not so much anymore more. They have been slow down to 8 maybe at best 9 on the meter. The bunkers are so wet you might as well play out of mud. Very sad to see.
Challenging Layout
Played the back tees, and it's a real challenge from back there. A couple of lengthy par 4s, no easy to reach par 5s. And a couple of pretty tough par 3s too. Some easier holes mixed in too, but better take advantage of them because the toughies will be facing you!
Best course in Sacramento
Always a good day at empire ranch! The greens are challenging and the course is beautiful. Honestly my favorite course and the best challenge here in sac
Tee time changed
I play here regularly and book through Golf Now most of the time. Today my tee time at the course was different than what time I booked through GN. Only a 10 minute difference but it's a matter of principle. Course blamed GN not sure who GN will blame? Let's get it right!
Tough coarse
Tough coarse one in going to play again!!! Everything was great out there except pace of play!!!
Empire Ranch golf
I always enjoy Empire..! The course was in great shape and just as tricky as I remembered..!! I'll be back... SOON..!!!
In great shape
The greens were perfect. Rolled great & were fast. No spike or balls marks.
Even with all of the rain, the greens are great. Fairways & tee boxes were all mowed perfectly.
Beautiful Course
It was a challenging course. We had golfed the first 9 holes the week earlier it was wet but enjoyed the course. With all the rain northern Ca received in the last months the course was slow because of cart path only. We plan to play the course again.
A little wet but still fun
For the money one of the best courses you can play in the the Sacramento area. Our most recent round was a little soggy but still vey enjoyable. The conditions were what I would expect this time of year with the amount of rain we have gotten recently. All in all it was a fantastic day of golf. I can't wait for the course to dry out a bit and hit it again.
Great time!
Great day despite cart path only due to rain. 1st time the driving range was closed for maintenance till 11am. So no chance to warm up. Other than that it's always a pleasure to play Empire Ranch. Best draining course in Sacramento to play in wet weather.
Fast greens, maintained course
