I would recommend this course if you take advantage of a discount coupon or use Golf Advisor for a deal.

Not a terribly challenging course, but enjoyable! You can still get in trouble off the tee, but recovery is usually possible.

Front 9 was fine with no one ahead of us. A drunk foursome started 10 as we finished 9. They were clueless, inconsiderate and ignored the marshall's request to speed up. He disappeared rather than dealing with them. If there are no consequences it won't improve.

Bottom line with any course played for any amount of money should be pace of play. Without question this course is always among those with ridiculously slow play. Almost 3 hours to play 9 holes is absurd and this has always been an issue at empire ranch which is why I rarely play it. The course itself was in very nice condition, the greens were a bit slow but still had nice enough pace that you could make some putts and the few long irons I hit into a couple of greens held nicely.

That said, if slow play doesn't bother you then by all means enjoy.

Course is in great condition, as always. The layout is challenging enough without being too difficult. The finishing hole is very unique. The greens are well groomed.

Play here every weekend, enough of a challenge with several really good holes.

Being the only course in the Folsom area, it is very nice and has enough challenges and scenery to make it a great time. I feel that pace of play is a problem here though as there are MANY signs of how long it should take on the course and plastered on the cart. However, there doesn't seem to be enough enforcement outside of this. Coming to hole #5, there were 4 groups on that hole, 1 on the green, 1 on the approach, 1 on the box and my group waiting to get to the box. The back 9 picked up but still ended up with an over 5 hour round with mid-week 12:50 tee time. I would say this makes the course not playable, but just have the understanding it will be a long round.

Very good conditions for the time of year. Excellent staff make it fun to play.

The course was in very good condition, especially the greens. I was a single paired up with a father and son. We got along great and had a very good time if you don't count lost balls. There was a small group event earlier in the day that slowed play, but the weather wasn't too hot and the course has water stations every few holes.

Good basic course. Pretty wide-open. Punched greens at the end of March. In good shape now, as is the rest of the course.

Really liked the course setup . For a change a course had effective staff from starter to marshal who actually did something ,like asking the ladies who were new to the game to let faster players play through. First time I have seen that in years! Plaudits

Played the course Friday, April 1. Tee time was for 1230 pm but was delayed by course till 1245. Greens aerated March 22 and were about 80% playable with punch holes. Very slow green speeds. Paid $42 w/cart. Round took 5 hours 30 minutes to play! Waited on every shot. Group behind us had enough frustration and quit after 15 holes. Golf shop said morning tournament started 1 hr late and since they paid $5,000 it was too bad for the rest of the golfers!!

The course has several holes that have blind tee shots, or somewhat hidden hazards.

Being paired with others that had never played the course was a disadvantage to all of us.

The greens had just been punched so putting as with all courses at this time of year aren't places to work on putting. The course overall was in really good shape and typically the greens are very good and on the faster side so should be really good in a few weeks. Staff is pretty good and friendly there.

I usually enjoy playing Empire Ranch. My complaint and reason for the poor rating is on Monday prior to booking my foursome I asked if plans to punch the greens took place. I was told no because of the wet weather. On Wed. I called to ask if carts were being allowed on the course and how the course shape was. I was told all was good. We show up Thursday and find that the greens were punched the day before.

3rd time playing this course even though I vowed never to go back after the 2nd experience. My two prior experiences were SLOW. This course unfortunately does not empower its marshals. Therefore play gets slow. This time however proved to move right along. Of course, it did rain a bit which kept most players away. The course was in pretty good conditions (greens were great).

I really enjoy the course layout and therefore I suppose I will give it ONE more chance in good weather.

The linksfeel is true in the sense that wind really affects your game. On some holes it was 2 clubs up or down depending on wind direction. Lots of water and sometime the ball just vaporized after a you saw it land...
Greens were fast, even though they looked slow to me... Very hard to get into my head and ended up doing over 40 puts... But I like challenges! On some of the holes There were many bunkers and the sand could have been softer. Now I did three hard lip shots that somehow cleared it and one 5 wood shot that was probably the best bunker shot of the day.

I wish I have a house near to the course, so I could play there every other day!
