Empire Ranch Golf Club

Overpriced, course is maintained, but it’s just an average public course. The course marshal had a stick up you know where. We played in a foursome but the course was not busy enough so we had twosomes and singles behind us. We let one play through and would have let the others play through as well but we were keeping pace ahead of them. The marshal tried making us split into two groups to play faster, even though half of us would have to wait at the tee box for us to split up. Just didn’t make sense and the people behind us weren’t trying to rush. Total play time was a pretty standard 4 hours including a break after the 9th.

I’d consider playing at other courses for a better price and nicer staff. I’ve played here my whole life as it’s convenient, but found I get a better experience traveling just a little bit for other courses.

The only problem I had with my round is they need more rakes. For the price you pay I think they can afford more than 1 rake per bunker.

I would play this course more often if walking rate was cheaper than riding carts. Not sure why the price for walking and riding is same.

Pretty open course. Was in possibly the best condition I’ve ever played it. Tough finishing hole for a par 3 as you typical hit into a steady headwind with a 5-6 story change in elevation from tee to green. Greens were excellent.

Empire is a great course that offers challenges for every skill level. Great layout an amazing greens!

Pace of play could definitely improve. The Marshalls don’t really seem to enforce it nor seem to care.

Other than that, I highly recommend Empire and absolutely love playing there.

Also, the food is second to none!!! Best clubhouse food in the Sacramento region! Hands down.

Beautiful course with great scenery. Very well maintained--greens were immaculate. Forgiving of errant shots because so few trees and wide fairways. Less skilled players will score lower than on more mature golf courses. Problem is all the blind shots because of hills and hidden dog legs. This takes time to find your ball if you misshit or even if you make a good shot. So, you are going to get hassled by the marshall because of your pace of play--hard to avoid especially if you have never played this course before. Not fun to have drama on a Sunday after a hard week at work. Other courses in Sacramento are more forgiving in the sense that you can see where your ball lands and won't spend time searching for it resulting in faster play. Low rating because hard to meet the course requirement for pace of play. Otherwise beautiful course and fun to play.

I was added to a great group of golfers. Made my first session at Empire Ranch extremely enjoyable. I’ll definitely be back.

Front desk guy that checked us in was pretty grumpy and set a weird vibe for the day. The course was cart path only, which is not the best. Large divots on the fairway which my ball went into several times. Would avoid for the next 6 months and try again.

Course is in good condition for winter golf. Greens look great. Cart path only slows down pace of play. We definitely needed the marshal to speed up the groups ahead of us. Club house staff was underwhelming. We showed up before our tee time, but had to endure a lecture about showing up even earlier. It’s the holidays, we are here to have fun with friends and family. The entitled club house staff put a bad note to the start of our golf day. Bah humbug!
