The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Finishing hole. The 2nd shot into the green is possible one of the most beautiful shots a golfer can make. Photo submitted by mstacy769 on 06/27/2013

Approach to 18th Green Photo submitted by jscarpetta on 11/02/2012
Beautiful scenery, very classy and well kept.
This course is just so beautiful. This course is one of my favorites, it has great and tricky fairways and slow greens. You can just tell that this is a Palmer course because it is kept so well by the great staff.
Excellent Course
The Palmer Course is a good challenge for any golfer. I played the Gold Tees on the front nine and then switched to the Silver Tees on the back nine to give me a different feel around the course. Either tee is a challenge.
The fairways and greens were in excellent condition but the very rarely were the tee boxes on level ground. Not sure if this is a Palmer trait but I hate it.
Friendly staff, fantastic scenery
Course was in great shape, greens were in good shape...some were a bit sandy. Overall good condition. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Views are awesome. No out of bounds...all hazards played as lateral, which helps pace of play.
Great course for advanced players!
Second time playing the course and it was in great shape, However, even if one is lucky enough to get a discount to play, there should be some warning when you are jammed up right behind a tournament start. 5+ Hours makes for an ugly game of golf. You lose all your rhythm waiting 20 minutes between holes. Enough said.
Nice layout and amazing views
If your interested in a course with character and up scale style that will challenge your skills as well as provide some amazing scenery, The Palmer course will accommodate you. Each hole is uniquely different and weaved into the country side seamlessly. This makes for an enjoyable round with the always fun elevation drops and even some blind tee shots that force you to play smart off the tee. I played the gold tees amd even with the GPS carts, found some trouble long off a couple tee boxes due to the extra distance from elevation and would score much better the second time around. Overall it was well worth the play and would recommend it to anyone.
Great expectations
With the name "the Palmer course" I was expecting a jewel and that is exactly what I got!! Beautiful course!! Well kept, challenging and overall perfect experience. Friendly staff and unmatched service. Definitely worth playing in the blistering heat. Looking forward to playing course again soon!!
Head scratcher
Golf course is great. I find it rather ridiculous to have to pay $25 to have someone ride along in your cart who is not a golfer!!! Is the $25 a charge to use their eyes on their beautiful course? Is the $25 a fee to sit on the comfortable golf cart? Ridiculous is the only way to describe. Recommendation: don't make friends with people who don't or can't golf.
Private CC feel @ public price
Course was in EXCELLENT condition, faiways..greens..perfect!
Excellent
Beautiful course in great shape. Playable yet challenging. Very scenic.
This course was awesome
This was one of the best course I have ever played. I was very impressed with the staff and the location of the course.
La Cantera Palmer
This is the first time we played the course. It is an interesting 18 holes as it has two identities the front is fairly open with few blind shots. The back is the opposite with most of the holes having a blind tee shot or one that requires placement of the shot. The blind shots increased the difficulty of the course and the ability to score. The greens were rather difficult to read and putt. The grain on the greens was inconsistent which made effective chipping and putting difficult.
The staff was great and very responsive upon our arrival and completion of the round. The course has great views of Texas hill country. Overall a good value but green do not reward well placed shots
A pleasnat First Outing
I really enjoyed this course. From the time you arrive til departure you are treated greatly. The staff was very professional, helpful and very knowledgeable of the course. The views are really good and the blind holes are challenging. Green were true and consistent on every hole. I would reccomend this course for all levels of golfers it is a good course. If you have not played Texas hill country golf it is a must. It is so pretty you find yourself relaxed and really enjoying your round and not griping about a bad shot.
very enjoyable round
Staff very friendly especially starter Keith. Front nine was slow due to four very bad players but at the turn we were allowed to play through and had a very enjoyable back nine. Course was in excellent shape.
Unique layout with great views
I went into the round at the Palmer course with much anticipation. I had read only good things about the course, and although my game has been unpredictable as of late, I was hoping a revival of sorts resembling the man the course is named for.
Although I wish I had arrived earlier to take better advantage of the practice facilities, what time I did have on the range and putting/chipping green, was enjoyable. But it was off to the first tee, in hopes that the first drive would not embarrass me in front of the playing partners I had been paired with. The starter, Bob, was very nice and had a great amount of information to help with the course and its layout. I hit only one driver this day, choosing to instead hit my 3-iron for the remainder of the day off the tee. This strategy played quite well for me as the course is not long and requires precision off many of the tee boxes. A number of the tee shots are blind and a good many of the fairways are met with minimal areas of rough before dropping off completely over cliffs or into thick woods of prickers.
The overall set-up of the course was very enjoyable with a difficult slope rating, making the shortness of the course a moot point. The tee boxes were probably a 6 out of 10 with a few in less than good condition and sloped a good 15 degrees at times. The fairways were about a 7 out of 10, with no severe issues. The greens were an 8 out of 10, rolling true throughout the day with only a few rough spots, mainly on the perimeter areas. The greens were definitely slower than expected, expect when the pin location was at the crest of a hill, and then if you misjudged your putt, you could probably expect a nice tester back up hill.
Overall, the course was in very playable condition with a very unique and enjoyable layout, allowing for great views of the surrounding hill country and San Antonio areas. It was a great weather day, and the wind, although always present in the hill country, was substantially subdued on this day. I definitely recommend the Palmer, especially if you can grab up a GolfNow hotdeal!

Beautiful course. Nice greens, nice fairways. Very scenic with elevation changes. We found a good deal on Golf Now. We would definitely play again.
Tough course, greens need help
Never played in Texas, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Great deal from Golfnow made this very worthwhile to play. Staff was great, weather was great. Greens were spotty in many places and I'm sure lack of rain didn't help the course conditions. Lots of elevation changes, sloping fairways and huge greens. Great views on many holes.
I would like to play it again soon.
Hill Country Golf
Course was in great shape. Pace of play was almost perfect, had to wait twice to hit our shots. Not bad for a Saturday afternoon. It was warm, but had a nice breeze. Looking forward to playing it again
great course
My first round at this course . I had heard allot of stories ;but was very surprised at the fairness of the course . My out of town guests were equally impressed and had a good time. A good deal from golf now made it available to me.
Fantastic views and layout - poor condition
I have played this course multiple times and love the layout. It's very challenging from the tips, but playable/enjoyable from the other tees.
The clubhouse is beautiful and I can't imagine you'll find another course with the elevation changes and views in San Antonio. Absolutely stunning layout and design.
However, for the price to play the condition was unacceptable. The greens were in terrible shape. The grain is unlike anything else I've seen. Very patchy with many bare spots. Fairways weren't much better. Tee boxes need to be leveled and I found it difficult to find an even teeing ground on many holes.
With some changes and better conditions this could be one of the top courses in Central Texas. Until then, it's simply average because of the rate.
Very challenging course, consider "Play Forward" because of high slope rating
Very Hilly course with moderately wide fairways but with a 10 - 15 MPH wind they got a little tight. there are 4-5 blind tee shots on the course. Start the back nine with three woods on holes 10 -12. More holes with 3 wood tee shot on front nine. Greens were slow and a little bumpy and there were a few bare spots around the greens. Certainly 5-6 shots harder that the La Cantera Resort course, but had several awesome views of SA. Will go back and play again but with the Golf Now special rate it was well worth the cost.
