The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Finishing hole. The 2nd shot into the green is possible one of the most beautiful shots a golfer can make. Photo submitted by mstacy769 on 06/27/2013

Approach to 18th Green Photo submitted by jscarpetta on 11/02/2012
Too many blind shots.
I really enjoyed the course. I don't care for all of the blind tee shots, however, the course was in great shape. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
It's a wow. I wish it were my daily play
Great course, wide fairways, no OB, but thick brush as unplayable lateral hazards and really really fast, but true, greens. Hard to hold on your approach shots or to adapt your putting stroke to. Friendly, personable staff abounds and a first rate facility. My only knock is/was the replay fee of $49 with less than 2 hours of day light left on a cold, drizzly overcast day. We left the course wanting revenge. Think/hoping we'd score better next time. "We'll be back"
The Palmer course is the King
This course shows the true virtues of Arnold Palmer as an architect. Its very challenging but fair and just awesome on so many levels. The view, the course and the staff make this a must play destination if you come too San Antonio. I little to the pricey side but well worth playing.
Palmer @ La Cantera
Excellent yet very difficult course, course condition was immaculate (very fast greens), staff was very courteous and polite. Best deal I've had to play for $50 x person.
Fabulous Scenery to match great golf
Beautiful gof course and facility. Staff very helpful and friendly. Course in great shape. Enough challenge to make it interesting without being overly frustrating. Exceptional views from higher elevations.
Wonderful Course
I really enjoyed the Palmer! The course was in great shape and the views were spectacular. Very challenging for this 66 year old. Hope to play again soon.
Excellent experience
The best $80.00 I've ever spent playing golf. The course was immaculate. The staff was very, very friendly. One of the only places where the staff doesn't act like their doing you a favor by letting you play their course.
I will definitely come back!
spectacular
excelent condition and beautiful views ,,and a very enjoyable experience.
Amazing
This was an incredible experience! The views on every hole help you to forget any bad shot you might have hit. It's extremely challenging but there are several holes that you can really score on too. Saw turkeys, road runners, deer and the occasional rattlesnake if you get off in the trees. Haven't enjoyed golf like that in a long time. You are best served by playing with someone that has played there before because of the plethora of blind shots! Shot a 77 but would have shot 100 if it wasn't for my playing partners! It's a MUST play!!!!!!!
Great course
This course is in amazing shape. Greens are as true as I have ever played, I used my discount code but I would pay 79 dollars easily to play this course. It is longer than most courses from the gold tees and course knowledge is crucial. I paired up with a guy who knew the course or it would have been very tough. Don't bring your ego if you are a 9 handicap or more, but enjoy every hole for its thoughtful design.
Very nice round, much enjoyed
From the moment you get to the bag drop you are treated in a member-like atmosphere. Super friendly staff, answering all questions and willing to go the extra mile to make it enjoyable. Practice facilities were also very nice with unlimited range balls to warm up with (looked sparkling new, not beat up) and a decent putting/bunker area. The layout is very nice as well with a good mix of elevation changes both high-low and low-high mixed with 'flat' holes. Fairways are pretty generous and there was minimal punishment for shots in the rough (might be typical for the area?). Missing it all would nearly always lead to a drop as this is surrounded by desert terrain. Course is all lateral hazard, no OB. Greens had minimal damage except for 1-2 areas where they were repairing but it was negligible to the overall experience and would seldom impact play with the pin locations on the day. Views are spectacular and allowing the rock formations to integrate into the course was a great choice. The only complaint was some of the tee boxes were in really, really rough shape but that wasn't consistent throughout the course and were primarily located on the 3's (understandable). Overall I give this 4.7 stars and would absolutely play again given the opportunity to play at the $40ish rate I got. Review might be a little more harsh if I paid the full $125 fee. Enjoy!!
IT WILBE A TEST
NEVER PUTT VERY WELL AT THE PALMER COURSE, BUT IT IS A FUN COURSE TO PLAY. GREENS ARE FAST AND THE ELEVATION CHANGES FROM TEE TO GREEN REALLY MAKE THIS COURSE A COURSE TO PLAY. JUST NEED TO BE PATIENT, OVER ALL , IT'S A MUST TO PLAY! BAD WEATHER FORCED ME OFF THE COURSE FOR ABOUT AND HOUR, AND FOR THE AMOUNT OF RAIN THAT CAME DOWN, THE COURSE REALLY DRAINED GOOD. GO PLAY IT, AND HAVE FUN.
Very beautiful course
Sitting in a beautiful hill country terrain . Difficult course but one of the best in San Antonio.
What a great golf day
Course was in great shape. Played on a summer special price that made it well worth the price. Marshalls really did a great job coordinating everyone. Wish Marshalls at my home course did the same.
The Hills Have Eyes
I have played the Palmer course a handful of times and of the course stays just as challenging each time. There are about four or five blind tee shots due to the hill country layout. The views of San Antonio are amazing from the Palmer course which make it all worth the struggle. It's a challenging round no doubt.
Will go again
This course was a real treat to play. I belong to a course 5 minutes away and only played due to long stay guest - needing more variety. I really enjoyed the course - best views of any course in this part of the country. Some tricky landing areas but not unfair. Staff was excellent and the 19 th hole was very good with a great view. Definitely going back.
9 and 18 are challenging club selections. Hit more on 9 than you think and less on 18.
Great views and in great condition
This course may be my new favorite in Central Texas. For the value (even at full price through Golfnow) it is easily worth it. The course is very different from many courses you will play. If you're looking for a traditional track with little elevation change, fairways running next to each other in a tree lined tour-style environment, look elsewhere. Undulating hills, interesting rock walls and formations, and very few (if any) straight holes make for an fun, interesting day on the course. The course is in great shape. We couldn't believe how healthy the grass was despite the lack of rain across Texas, and the views alone make it a course worth playing.
You will need to play this course twice
I played this course twice over two days and it helped my score the second day knowing where to hit my shots. Many holes require a placement tee shot to line up your second shot.
Bring lots of balls. Anything off line is lost.
Nice course, poor management experience
While the course was very nice, I am very disappointed in the policy enforced upon my group. We were playing behind a slow group of 4, which we had no complaints about. We were a group of 5 playing a scramble (2 vs 3) and were having a nice time, and well ahead of the pace of play because we were waiting for the group ahead of us on every tee box for multiple minutes. On the 8th hole, we were told we had to split up, and even though they could clearly see and agreed we were playing right behind the group in front of us, the "policy" says no fivesomes. So we followed the "policy", which was not only less enjoyable for us, but also FURTHER SLOWED PLAY because we were now adding another group to the log jam. We discussed this with the group behind us and they shared our displeasure.
I fully agree that there should be a policy of no fivesomes, because there are times that fivesomes will slow down play. In this case it was clear we were actually SPEEDING UP PLAY by combining and keeping up with the group ahead of us. If the sole purpose of the policy is to speed up play, it should not be enforced to the exact opposite effect of slowing down play. The policy needs to be amended to include "if group is not keeping up with the pace of play", or if mending the policy is too liberal, then the management should be smart enough to know in this case not to enforce the policy, because they are not only angering the group being split, they are also slowing down play and angering everyone else. There are no winners when "the policy" is blindly enforced, and will certainly affect our decision on whether or not to come back.
