The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Finishing hole. The 2nd shot into the green is possible one of the most beautiful shots a golfer can make. Photo submitted by mstacy769 on 06/27/2013

Keep it left
As it was 10+ years since last played I asked the starter for any tips on playing the course. He said except on two holes aim to the left side of the fairway as the terrain slope pulls most shots left to right. He was right. Fair number of blind tee shots and that makes first time play difficult to know lines.
Playing the Palmer
I'm from upstate NY. I played here 6 years ago. This time I had a better game to attack it with. The course was in good shape but the greens were only rolling at about a 7.5-8 on the stimp meter. One of my playing partners left 6 putts 1-2 inches short of the cup. I'd definitly go back if the greens were faster. Great views and risk /reward shots. Some are blind but I didn't mind.
LaCantera Palmer Course is Great!
My experience was super. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Course was in excellent shape and has many great holes, including one with an amazing view of San Antonio.
Pretty Challenging Course
Course was pretty challenging, in good shape. Got a good deal from Golfnow, so it was great bang for buck too!
good value good course
Was a windy (30mph) and cold(65) day but was an interesting course. Not a fan of raised fairways but an overallgood course.
bring your A game
A course for lower handicap players. My wife and the other Woman struggled on many of the holes.
Nice test of golf
This golf course is beautiful with scenic views and lots of elevation changes. You will have to think your way around it and will enjoy using different shot selections. A must for the avid golfer looking for a nice challenge.
Senic view on every hole
What a golf course! Mr Palmer outdid himself on this one! Unfortunately we had a cold front come through and had to quit on 14. I was really disappointed , because 18 looked like a great finishing hole. Can't wait to go back! The staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. I was alittle disappointed we couldn't eat lunch after 3 o'clock the kitchen was closed. Other than that it was great.
Local Golfer
Always a fun round - very hard course though. Take a lot of balls unless you are pretty good!!!
great course
This course is challenging not for the first time golfer, lots of uphill shots and long fairways. We enjoyed this course a lot and play as often as we can.
Texas Nugget
The Palmer course is very scenic, challenging and demanding. The par 3 holes are all over 175 yards, all approach shots must be under the hole and the putting greens are very consistent and are lighting quick. Fairways are very tight and tee shots must be in the fairway. If you can avoid 3 putts, you should have a decent round of golf.
Great way to start the year
Was a cold and windy day, first time to plat course. Practice area and staff friendly and pointed out the tricks of the course. Pace a play was good, only passed 2 other groups, we were a 2 some. Greens were very firm and extremly fast and hard to read. What a great way to start the year.
Very challenging
Good course. Greens absolutely horrible. They would have done better to cut a part of the fairway short and use that. They were so bad we finally just tried one putt and called it done. Ruined the rest of the course, which is magnificent. You have to ride this course, impossible to walk.
Amazing course, definitely a must play!
Such a great course! Everything was in pristine condition, greens were amazing and true... Some holes were especially challenging, but overall not too tough of a course. Beginning to average golfers should consider playing on the closer tees, 13 handicaps and lower shouldn't have too hard of a time playing on the back tees.
More fun at La Cantera
Honestly, I don't know which course I like better -- the Palmer Course or Resort Course. Both have plenty of elevated tees, are in great condition and are a blast to play. There are so many interesting holes on the Palmer, including the beautiful par-5 18th that plays down to a green surrounded by water in front of the courses gorgeous clubhouse. And the clubhouse food and drinks are as good as it gets.
Great experience
This was my first time to visit the resort and I wasn't disappointed at all. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to return.
Amazing course
Found a tee time for a ridiculously low price... Needless to say I can see why people pay the amount of money they do to play here. Course was in supreme condition, nice and wide fairways, greens were pristine. Definitely recommend this course to anyone.
This course has great views
The views from just about every hole are fantastic! Course was in great shape... Totally enjoyed it!
better chance putting on glass
I'm wondering if these exellent reviews are posted by staff members. I played this course a few years back and while I wasn't to happy with course conditions I decided to give it one more crack. I can't tell you how disappointed I was with the greens, putts were rolling completely off the putting surface felt as if I was playing a U.S. Open settup. Will never return.
Nice course. Greens were very fast. Enjoyed playing.
I enjoyed the course. A few too many blind tee shots for my taste. Played the middle tees and enjoyed the day. I love the fast greens. Might be too fast for some. Playing partners had a tough time.
