The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Maturing Nicely
We watched this golf course being built from our front porch. It is an amazing piece of property, one of the highest elevations in San Antonio.
I played this layout a lot the first year, and it was my favorite course in the area at that time.
We decided to play the Palmer Course again
last week.
Their hospitality operation has gotten better. There are now more friendly cart guys than ever before. Each one is a fitting ambassador for the Palmer Course.
The pro shop was as friendly as ever, and stocked with an amazing variety of good stuff.
The carts are GPS ready, towels and an ice chest are included.
Because it is winter down here, all the thick Bermuda grass is dormant, the Rye over seed is a little thin, and the greens are pretty sparse. It is the dead of winter.
I really enjoyed the upscale locker rooms that appear even fancier than they did at first.
You will be impressed.
The only drawback on this course when we played was the lack of a course ranger. It was only moderately crowded, there were three twosomes in front of us and we were playing fast.
When two of the twosomes paired up, we had to wait on every shot. That constant waiting spoiled a
great three hour round for sure.
Overall, this is still the best layout in SA, and we cannot wait for May and June so we can play the Palmer Course again at it's finest.
Breathtaking views of San Antonio
Excellent condition with large greens. Be ready for up and down on this beautiful hill country course.
Once you play this course, you will want to play it again and again.
This is a challenging course with the best vistas in San Antonio. From short water bordered par threes to canyon-style par fours and fives, you won't walk away dissatisfied. The 18th hole is one of the prettiest in the nation. Lots of blind tee shots to tight fairways to elevated greens. Lots of wildlife and butterflies. The views are so beautiful it's hard to concentrate on the course. Enjoy this spectacular course.
Nice challenging public course.
I really like this course. I try to play at least once a month here since moving down from Ohio last July. The price is high but probably the best public course in San Antonio. You want a challenge, play this course. Not for people whose has a high handicap of 15.
The course is surrounded by natural bushland at each hole. You have to bring your best game at the tee box. Second shots are generally easy once you get the ball on the fairway. Since you are hitting at the hill country, wind becomes a factor as the ball climbs higher away from the elevation. The green is in a good shape. True roll, nothing too suspicious.
Fun challenging golf course.
One of the best courses in the San Antonio area. Play from the tees that best suit your skill level,if not you will regret playing it.
Tough greens.
Great course featuring the Texas hill country
This is one of the finest facilities in the nation. I have played golf in just about all 50 states and you would be hard pressed to find a better facility anywhere.
Very good golf course
Holes are scenic and challenging. Used every club in the bag.
Worth it if you can get on cheap enough!
First time playing the course. Staff was very friendly, never saw the cart girl till hole 15 when I called the club house to ask for her though. (Normally no big deal but San Antonio in September...). The course was in fair to good shape but really could have used more water, again I understand this seeing as its San Antonio in Sep. I could have really benefited from playing with someone who had played the course before. There are several blind tee shots that can really ruin your day. I would suggest this course in the early spring or fall season just basing that on probability of better weather and course conditions. The pictures on the website most certainly weren't taken the week I played if you catch my drift... No big deal though, but if I wouldn't have found a heavily discounted tee time I would have been disappointed in having to pay upwards of 100 bucks to get on on the weekend. I payed right at 70 tax & fees and felt I would've been ripped off having to fork out anything more than that. If I go down to San Antonio again I'll more than likely stay at the Marriot so I can get on the TPC course as a hotel guest. No real gripes, just not as good as I thought it was gonna be. Plus it's not at the same location as the resort course. So you'll have to hop in the car and drive 10 minutes from the Hilton over to the Palmer club house.
Challenging course that could be better maintained.
Have played at both La Cant era courses and at the resort course they are a lot friendlier and I wish that I received that treatment at this course.
Also did not see the cart girl but one time during the 8 holes that we played.
High End Value, Hill Country Views
For a very high end course, this price was an extremely great value. This is a brilliant Hill Country layout and has some of the best views of San Antonio I've ever seen. The greens had been overseeded and sanded the week before I played and were already back to almost perfect; rolled very true. I can't wait to play this course in the fall or spring when everything is really at its best; can only imagine how lush it gets out there. Topping it off, the practice facilities are top notch and the staff are extremely courteous. If you get the chance, definitely spend the extra bucks to play out here; worth every bit!!!
Great course
I've played this course several times. This course was priced great for what you get. The greens were a little sticky but still rolled very good. Fairways were mowed nice and the waste areas were maintained well. This course always has the best view of the surrounding area I think. In great shape and worth playing. Playing the Palmer is great fun and puts up a good challenge. Pars are a great score. If you you don't keep your driver straight expect some lost balls.
Absolutely wonderful experience! Beautiful views.
A frequent golf buddy and myself had a chance to play this course a few weeks back and all I have to say is it was an awesome experience. We were able to book a HotDeals tee time and use a buy one get one coupon so we played for right around $30 a person which just magnified the awesomeness of this golf trip. Everything about this course has been well though out. The course is very well maintained.
The rough must have magic grass because it was very easy to have a ball disappear in it. We lost some balls that were definitely still in play but just couldn't find them. The area is in a drought, as is all of Texas, so the water features for the course were low or nonfunctional. Greens were deceptively tricky which resulted in one of us, not naming names, 6 putting after being on in 2... I still played to the top end of my handicap but we played as far forward as possible without playing the ladies tees. No overzealous pride here and it made our round very enjoyable.
Overall, the experience was great. Staff was excellent and I tipped for most of their help. For the price we paid, it was way over the top amazing. For their regular price I would still say this is a must play course for this area.
la cantera palmer
the course was pristine, great greens, and very challenging. Beautiful scenery and great value for Golf now customers.
This course was extremely fun and beautiful!
This course was well maintained and the staff was amazing! Best golf experience so far!
A quality golf course at a very reasonable price.
The Palmer Course at La Canterra is obvious quality with very well maintained facilities from tee through green, personnel and equipment. Clubhouse and other structures are very appealing to the eye with a southwestern or Mediterranean feel. Everything was very clean and well kept. The staff were very friendly and helpful beginning with the bag handlers / parking attendants through the starter at the first tee. The course itself is very challenging with a lot of elevation change and subsequent blind shots. However, the advanced GPS / electronics in every golf cart takes away the guess work. Each hole is graphically displayed with your yardage to the pin and most landmarks and hazards such as bunkers and water, and other golf carts on yours and neighboring holes. Tips on how to play each hole are displayed as well. The course is situated among a cluster of high hill tops Northwest of San Antonio and the views while playing the course are spectacular to say the least. Our cost to play through Golf Now was just under $60 for a course of such quality you would expect to pay $125-150.
Beautiful Course
This course has beautiful fairways and great scenery. The greens were in great shape and very soft. One the best experiences and rounds of golf I have ever played. I look forward to returning to The Palmer Course at La Cantera.
Great elevation changes and great deal on golf now
I played on a Monday afternoon, so the pace of play was great. I love the course and will try to play every time I come to San Antonio.
beautiful course, great fun, quality people
loved it the people, course condition, weather and I recommend it to everyone!
Not a simple golf course, but a great experience
We had three different skill-levels of golfers, and all three of us enjoyed it tremendously. Not only is it a wonderful golf course with beautiful scenery, but the staff was beyond professional and friendly. The staff, alone, would be worth returning for. Thank you!
Beautiful course on the ridges overlooking San Antonio
Incredible course, friendly staff and good food in the resort dining area. La Cantera is a $50 cab ride from downtown on a golf now deal it is very worth it. The course looks intimidating but plays very friendly. Even for the mid to high handicapper. If I come back I will definitely make sure to play these courses again.
