La Cantera Resort - The Palmer Course

About
The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Finishing hole. The 2nd shot into the green is possible one of the most beautiful shots a golfer can make. Photo submitted by mstacy769 on 06/27/2013

The Palmer Course @ La Cantera
From Tee to Green this course is in pristine shape! The subtle nuances on the greens make them some of the toughest I have ever played on. Pay attention to the GPS, there are a few blind tee shots and if you have never played the course it is an invaluable tool. The starter ( I think his name is Bud) gave us a quick demo of the GPS unit. With the views and the course condition, this is a must play!
The course is so well maintained it hard to find issues with it. Everyone on the course was extremely friendly and made you feel welcomed. You need to play this course! Why are you still reading this? Go book a tee time!
One of the Best in Texas
Tris si one of the best golf courses in San Antonio and Texas. Very challenging with high hills and steep slopes.
My only recommendation would be to provide the tool and ask to all golfers to do their sand traps, as a courtesy to the next golfer is playing.
Resort golf with a challenge
The Palmer course is a great challenge. Not for the faint hearted or beginner golfer. Many twists and turns and changes in elevation. Heavy bush on either side of the fairway making it important to hit straight and know your club distances.
There were numerous holes where we wanted to go back and play it again cause only discover the surprises of the hole after you play it.
Overall a great course and well worth the cost.
Upper Echelon
Don’t question it, book the round. You won’t regret it. The Views are immaculate. The course is in great condition considering it’s winter golf. Greens are fast as $#¡+ lol but it’s okay because they’re catching as well. Lots of blind shots & elevation changing shots which are always fun. The Palmer really tests your overall game. 10/10 overall recommend unless you’re a high handicapper & looking for an easy course, this isn’t for you.
Nice course
We booked a late tee time and was able to finish in 3:30. Front 9 is laid out well. Back 9 - you need to know where to hit it. Overall. Great experience for a late Saturday round
Beautiful scenery, layout is challenging but great to play
Very challenging
Love the course layout and continues to be very challenging
Palmer Course at La Cantera
Challenging, but fair holes. Greens were fantastic. Fast and true. Pin positions were competitive but not too punishing.
Great course !
Slow play/Sub par service
Course is is decent condition; just sanded greens within the past few days. Great layout. Pace of play was less then adequate. I saw the Marshall ( Greg) once on the front and once on the back (#16). When I saw him on the back side I asked him if he was the marshal. He replied yes both the statue and the marshal. I said we could have used you on the back side; it’s been really slow He just replied again that he’s both the starter and the marshal. I played her a year ago. Quality of personnel has slipped
Great Round!
The Parmer Course was fantastic! La Canteras hidden gem, given that most prefer the resort course. Course is tucked in the hills with rolling fairways and serious elevation change. Bunkers are well kept. Greens are receptive but GLASSY! Thoroughly enjoyed my round and will be back!
Amazing course!
First time playing here and it was absolutely outstanding! Course is in great condition and the greens were on point. For me there isn’t much worse than slow greens and these were super fast. Pretty tough course but plenty of holes to score on. I will most definitely be back to play there!
