Golf at Spessard
Played this course for the 1st time fun course excellent views so far I have been happy with all the Brevard county courses I have played Spessard and the Habitat
Had fun!!!!
We area couple of "not serious " golfers.., loved that we were not asked to go with strangers and not rushed..,
Very Enjoyable!
Great round of golf for the price. Very scenic, and challenging. Will return.
short course
coarse was in great shape incredibly narrow course even though it is short still a challenge must manage all golf shots due to fact that it is windy there and narrow enjoyed challenge a lot and fast pace as well
First time surprise
Staff was very friendly and helpful! The course was in overall great condition and the greens were very smooth and rolled nicely! I was impressed with the Arnold Palmer design. Although the yardage is short there are gentle dog legs to make you place your ball in the right spots to score on the hole. The holes along the river are very nice with great views. Will definitely play again!
great views and plenty of challenge
View the Indian river along several holes, and keep your ball out of it and the ponds throughout. Short course but fun
unfortunate story
Spessard Holland, what an unfortunate story.
For decades, a great, local golf course. Always well maintained, simple but reliable restaurant.
Then, after decades of this stable Melbourne Beach much loved course, apparently the county decided to contract out the management to an outside company. What a mistake that was.
They kick out the owner of the restaurant that has been there forever. Restaurant is completely closed for months. No big overhaul, they simply re open the same restaurant, with a small menu and MUCH SHORTER hours after being closed for months. Can't get a beer at 3pm. Used to be open ever day until 5pm or later. What a scam.
Prices have been changing, are not posted, no price sheet available.
The do things like remove the bag stands outside the pro shop. There is now nowhere to put bags. The people working there say that they think something is happening with that, perhaps new bag stands? but no one knows any specifics, and its been like that a while now.
Course is in decent shape, but declining from its past glory in terms of condition of greens, fairways, and rough.
Can't get anyone to answer phone any more to take reservation, I've tried a dozen times, always just rings.
Now their online reservation link just clicks through to outside service to make reservation.
They will have to keep cutting costs to make up for what I am sure is alot of money paid to this outside management fee. I'm sick to think of this great local course being managed by outsiders, with no clue, they are going to run it into the ground trying to eek out more money to cover the new management costs.
They have lost me. Check out Aquarina a few miles down the road. Great restaurant/bar. That course is improving instead of declining over time, last time I played the greens were excellent.
I will still play Spessard Holland, its where I learned to play golf and I have a soft spot for it. Great views of the intracoastal on the back nine. Please management, get on track, stop doing things like pulling out bag stands, and closing the restaurant MONTHS before you have the replacement plans ready to go. Get pricing established and PUBLISH RATES! Answer the phones. It may not be busy, but a functioning restaurant/bar at any golf course needs to be open until 5pm at least.
Don't let the yardage fool you!
I play here a lot because I live in the neighborhood. Several months ago Integrity Golf took over from the county in managing the course. They probably ruffled a few feathers at first but the bottom line is the golf course has never been in better shape. Most first timers here look at the yardage and envision a low scoring round. Good luck with that. While short in yards the layout presents every challenge a single digit handicapper would want to take on.....playing from the tips. The par threes and the easterly wind off the ocean make for some real fun iron selection. The short par fours have palm trees placed directly in your line of flight so you might want to back off that driver-one putt eagle thought in your mind. The greens are like catchers' mitts so you can go pin hunting with confidence. The staff is friendly and the beers are cold.
Fun course
Good healthy bermuda everywhere, very little weeds. Played from the back as it's not real long, but it's still a real golf course if you know what I mean. One par five where the green is extremely guarded, two extra par 3's, the rest all shortish par 4's. None were driveable, we hit driver between 240-280 on flat ground and a couple of those require your 200 yard club of the tee. Greens were in great shape. Just a fun course. Plus views of the Banana river and a nice ocean breeze.
Great wildlife and views
May be a shorter course but has some challenging holes. The course has plenty of wildlife and occasionally can spot dolphins in the Intercoastal.
Water views are great and the course is always in great condition. Cart attendants are always personable and pro shop always friendly. One of our favorite courses. Has all the ingredients for a pleasant day of golf.
Spessard Holland Reveiw
I like this course. Very challenging for me. For a short it is quit a challenge.
My favorite course
The staff is very friendly and laid back. I have played here 4 times over the past 8 weeks and the greens have been well kept even though we havent had much rain.
Availability
The Golfnow hot deal for afternoon play was great. Weather was hot but bearable with cool breezes from the ocean and river. I will definitely play this course again for the low price. Course is not long which was excellent for my game. I loved the location.
a bit challenging
a good challenge course in pretty good shape but
no snack bar open and only 3 holes that had drinking
water available
Course is rough
Played this course 6-26-16 I could not believe how run down this course is. The tee boxes are dirt, the fairways mostly weeds and bumpy, the greens were so rough putting was impossible. I would not play again even for free. Big mistake leasing the county courses.
Nice Little Course
Great little course, but would not have played had I know the greens had recently been aerated. Impossible to putt over the gridlines! This info should be available to anyone scheduling a round without having to call the course directlyQ
Golfing on the Beach
This was a nice course to play to kick off the Melbourne Beach vacation. I found the narrow fairways and water difficult. It was sunny and very windy after the afternoon rain storm. Not a bad price for a county course. Only down side was the greens had been worked on the previous week so they were a bit bumpy. If I'm in the area again, I'd give it another go!
Fun course to play!!!
Spessard was a challenging yet very fun course. Some holes you have forgiveness if you play with a slice and some absolutely not. They were arrogating the greens so I look forward to playing it when it's all done.
bad experience
The staff was fine. The course was fine. The pace of play was upsetting. I had to wait on almost every shot. Too many walkers for my taste. Many novice golfers that took way to long to hit the poor shots they were hitting. Then, they would fish balls out of the water after they had delayed other golfers. Get some lessons and read a book on golf rules.
