The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course
About
A Scottish-themed, links-style track that plays along the shores of Lake Lewisville, The Tribute one-ups the Tour 18 approach of modeling the world’s finest golf holes. Patterned his design after the revered holes of St. Andrews, Troon, Prestwick, etc., Tripp Davis created an immaculate track that rolls over terrain strikingly similar to the dunes and grasses over the Atlantic.
From the tips the course plays to a par 72 7,002 yards, but its most strikingly entertaining feature is its playability from the forward tees. In total, four sets of tees are available to even things out for the high handicappers.
St. Andrews is well represented on the first and last holes at The Tribute, where they offer the world’s largest fairway as a great way to start and finish your round.
Other notes: Don’t forget to inquire about the club’s seven guest rooms and available stay-and -play packages. The facility has hopes of opening another 18 and an adjoining hotel sometime in the near future.
Getting there : From 75 Expressway, take Hwy. 121 west to 423 (main street of The Colony). Turn right (north) to Boyd Road. Turn left, then drive 2.5 miles to the clubhouse.

Always a greate experience
Played on a cold day with strong winds and I was again impressed with the course conditions. The greens were a little slow due to recent rainfall but they still rolled true. Every time I play this course, I am impressed with everything about it. The layout, the conditions, the staff, and the value are always notches above anything else that can be found in a public course in this area. As a side note, the cold weather had very few people interested in playing and it seemed as though the staff opened the course after a 5 hour freeze delay for just me and one other group. I will always make this course one of my first choices.
Not quite as good
Even though I'm a still a fan of this links style course I feel it may have gone down a bit in terms of prestige. Granted, I did get a great deal on the price from golf now and it was the day after Christmas, I was disappointed to have to follow a group of 6 (5 guys and one girl) who were determined to reenact Caddyshack by being loud, slow, play music (really?) , and use one of the old stone walls on 17 as a personal bathroom. Still, the course is in great shape for the winter and I will come back again this summer.
Phenomenal course and staff
Manicured perfect with a superb staff and bar. I was amazed and felt like I was literally on a links course in Scotland 5 stars best course in Texas
The Tribute Golf Club
Pro: This course seems like fun when you are playing the holes that you would recongize from the British Open. The course was in decent shape. I like the course.
Con: The greens were bumpy and slow even though it was bent grass. Some of the bunkers were muddy and wet a little here and there.
Southern Hospitatlity
A few friends got together and drove to Dallas from Oklahoma to celebrate my brothers birthday. We all wanted to play some unfamiliar courses and decided to pick The Tribute as one of the new courses to play. The staff was super friendly (even with being a host to a large wedding), the course was remarkable, and overall I was extremely impressed with how we were treated.
Nice course forgiving fairways
Course was nice but a little over priced for a 4:00 tee time. 29.00 would be a fair rate at that time of the day
The Tribute
We had a five-some in front of us on a Saturday at 10:50. Two male golfers were giving playing lessons to two novice female golfers. One female golfer brought her baby and was with her in the cart. They had three open holes in front of them. The marshals did absolutely nothing to get them to play quicker or step aside while other groups went thru. Thank God they only played nine holes!
Nice course with good views of the lake
Fun course to play. Generous fairways, but no room off of fairways if you hit an errant drive/shot.
We hoped for better
We played as a threesome on Sunday. Pace of play was slow- we waited for every shot. The greens were in bad shape and rough with many unrepaired ball marks. It appeared the greens hadn't been mowed for a couple of days. There was no beverage cart on the course in the afternoon. The Internet was down at the clubhouse which made it difficult to so much as purchase a beverage. We pulled up to the bag drop and there was no one to take our bags although they re were two young employees standing about 30 feet away. This course certainly has potential but is way overpriced in it's current condition.
A high quality Tribute indeed
I'll admit, my first choice was to play Old American right next door. However, that was not an option on this particular day, so I spent the afternoon at The Tribute. As always, I really appreciate when you visit a property for the first time, know absolutely nobody and find that everyone is very laid back and friendly. And I'm not just talking about the staff, as I played through three groups and each one let me go through with nothing less than a gracious smile. As a Central Florida resident, stepping to the first tee was like being at the New Course at Grand Cypress as they also design their #1 and #18 to look like St. Andrews. Unlike Grand Cypress, The Tribute has a true Road Hole complete with a shed that you must drive over from the back tees. In addition to holes from St. Andrews, there are also some from Carnoustie, Muirfield, Turnberry and many other famous European courses and the starter gives out a nice book detailing some of the rich history of each one. There's a lot of fun to be had on this course and all but one bent grass green, the eighth which was very soft and almost muddy, was properly conditioned to receive approaches and roll putts true. When playing certain holes that are close enough to the clubhouse, you can actually hear bagpipes to add another neat touch to the experience. Appropriately, the cart girl wears a red kilt and if her name is Katie, she has very good form if you challenge her to hit a ball or two.
Great Deal
Was a great deal, some the greens were punched and sanded, but otherwise course was in very good shape.
Fun course and good value
The course was in nice shape. Friendly staff and good value. Definitely looking forward to playing again.
Nice
Great fun . Ask if there is a tournament before you book a tee time. Started a 2:11 pm and did not finish until 7:34 pm
Worth the Drive
I had played this course before and was underwhelmed. On this visit though the course conditions were magnificent. I have played half of the British courses represented and most of the replicas are only fair. The course doesn't need to copy holes though as these are really nice on their own. Fairways are mostly wide and forgiving and some offer choices. Greens are huge and three-puttable. Enjoy. If you can manage to play Old American next door on the same day you will have had a true treat , and saved driving.
Views of lake are worth the price of round. Look for special on GolfNow.
st. Andrews in texas
This place was very nice and the staff were very polite and friendly. There was a man waiting for me to take my clubs and put them in a cart when I walked up. I played on a Thursday at 1230, so the course was wide open for me. I finished my round in 3 hours playing by myself. The starter and Marshall were friendly and drove by a couple of times to check to see how the round was going. There was a beverage cart coming around too and the girls were friendly as well. The only knock on the course was that the greens on the back nine were aerated and I wasn't told about that when I checked in or when I made the purchase on my golf now app. The front nine greens were great, but just had a lot of old ball marks that weren't repaired. I would definitely recommend anyone that's not a beginner to play this course to get an idea of what it would be like to play st. Andrews in Scotland. I've never been there so I can't compare, but it was a cool course to play and was a lot of fun as long as you stayed out of the pot bunkers and the super tall grass!
Great golfing experience!
Course is in great shape. Fairways and greens were in beautiful condition. I don't usually see greens that have survived the heat, but these have. Many holes framed with nice views of Lake Lewisville. Best of the public courses in the DFW area I've played. Links style rolling hills and layout. Greens are very soft and held my 3 wood on the fly. Everyone was very pleasant, from the pro shop to the beverage girl to having your clubs cleaned at the end of the round. My round was $64 online. It's in the pricier range. I think typically they have more wind than today. Due to the heat, I think I was one of three groups out on the entire course. Finished in under 3 hours! Awesome!!
Amazing conditions, great pace. Makes you dream of Scotland
We had a great time, pace was quick, greens in good condition, staff was nice. Only complaint was that the driving range is closed on Wednesday mornings so we were not able to warm-up. Other then that, it was a fun short course, only about 7000 from tips, with not much water and great pothole bunkers. We decided after the round that a trip to Scotland is necessary in the next couple years.
just a blast
Play it, you'll love it. Greens are great, very playable and fun. Kills tour 18 for that experience.
Second time not as good
We were hoping with the rain the previous week, they might cut the greens a little closer. They still rolled true, but were slower than expected. The course is always in great shape (especially the practice facilities), but after you get over the allure of the historic nature of the holes, it is not a very tough course. As long as your short game is in gear, you can miss some fairways (not too far) and still shoot a good score. We'll be back, but only at the cheaper afternoon price.
Excellent round of golf
Course was in very good condition and the staff was very accommodating. Although it was a little pricey, I will return
