The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course
About
A Scottish-themed, links-style track that plays along the shores of Lake Lewisville, The Tribute one-ups the Tour 18 approach of modeling the world’s finest golf holes. Patterned his design after the revered holes of St. Andrews, Troon, Prestwick, etc., Tripp Davis created an immaculate track that rolls over terrain strikingly similar to the dunes and grasses over the Atlantic.
From the tips the course plays to a par 72 7,002 yards, but its most strikingly entertaining feature is its playability from the forward tees. In total, four sets of tees are available to even things out for the high handicappers.
St. Andrews is well represented on the first and last holes at The Tribute, where they offer the world’s largest fairway as a great way to start and finish your round.
Other notes: Don’t forget to inquire about the club’s seven guest rooms and available stay-and -play packages. The facility has hopes of opening another 18 and an adjoining hotel sometime in the near future.
Getting there : From 75 Expressway, take Hwy. 121 west to 423 (main street of The Colony). Turn right (north) to Boyd Road. Turn left, then drive 2.5 miles to the clubhouse.

Felt like we were still on vacation!
Aside from having one of the coolest weather days in late July this course reminded us of our recent vacation to the Orlando area of Florida. This is a links course with holes modeled after some famous courses. It felt like we were playing in the British Open! If you found yourself in the rough it might be playable but I found it wiser to just take the stroke and enjoy the rest of the hole. But on the other hand you will be rewarded if you hit a nice shot into the fairway. The greens are in great shape considering most of all the north TX courses suffered this past winter from freezing conditions, these don't appear to have been harmed at all! We had a great time and will definitely return, it's like a resort in the suburbs!
Great experience!
I love this golf course! The conditions are better than any public-access course in our area. I love the subtle shot values. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the speed of the greens. They were really slow. However, it was at least 100 degrees the day I played, so they have to keep them long and wet so they don't lose them.
Long
Challenging course where green speed was considerably slower than the contour would indicate. No shade on hot day can take a toll on your game and leave bunkers.
great fun
Refreshingly different, loved the links style golf. Greens were a little slow, but to be expected in this heat. Would love to play this course in early spring or late fall. I highly recommend
Fairways & Greens
The course was in excellent condition, we had a great pace of play, my only complaint would be the ball marks on the greens, my the course should give golfers a quick class on repairing them.
Great Venue
Wonderfully maintained course which has yet to disappoint. Course conditions were perfect and our round was less than 4 hours. Always fun to play this track especially when the pace of play is above average.
4th of July fun
My wife and I played on July 4th. The greens were very true and held your approach shot. I am a 13 handicap and was challenged to keep a good score going. The grass in the rough is a definate hazard gobbling up your ball.
Disappointing
OK, so the 1st and 18th are cool. Very similar to St Andrews. But that's about it. The rest was a disappointment. For a low handicapper there's nothing in this course. Most of the tee shots you may as well be on the driving range. 50-60 yard fairways and even off the back tees the bunkers really aren't in play. And it's so not like Scotland. Not much run, soft bent greens and shallow bunkers. For business visitors to Dallas, like me, looking to play some golf in the late afternoon, Texas Star, Tierra Verda, WaterChase, Tangle Ridge and Tennison Park are not only better golf courses, but more than 50% cheaper. For what its worth, I've played 13 public courses in Dallas the last 2 weeks. The best conditioned, most challenging, and best value for money course I've played is WaterChase. Tierra Verda is a close second followed by Texas Star. The worst - Old American, followed by Iron Horse and The Tribute
Sticky Greens
Played this "british tour 18" course on a day with 25 mph southerly wind- Brutal! 3 of the 4 par 5's were directly into wind- Made them all play like 600 yards. Greens were just being watered as we teed off- so all approach shots stuck like glue, and we had to whack each put to get ball to hole, plus watering took out a lot of the break. Love to play again with lighter winds and not having greens just being watered. Still fun to play.
Neat course
Really pretty course with great facilities. Enjoyed the experience there and want to revisit very soon. Highly recommend to any serious golfer.
Love this course
Played as a single and found a hot deal on this site. The value was great because I played the entire round a single, so I was able to play a scramble format by myself. I also circled back and played a few holes twice. I pulled up to the starter and he said no one had went off in 45 minutes, so off I went. This course is always in great shape!
Good Change of Pace From Typical Courses In Area
This is a fun course, that is a good change of pace from typical courses in the area. While I have never played a true links course, from looking online at photos and descriptions seems to be a pretty good representation of the real deal, with realization it is located in Texas, so some differences cant get around. It is a bit pricey, and the main drawback in my opinion. You wouldn't want to play very often at the going rate, not enough amenities offered for the price range. Not a CC level of service, but was CC prices.
Had a one O'clock tee time on a Sunday. Course didn't appear to be to busy and we had no issues playing in exactly four hours. Pace of play was good with twosome in front of us and behind us.
I enjoyed reading descriptions of holes that were supposed to be represented, added a little fun in the equation.
I play one to two times per week, and will probably play this course 2-3 times per year. Overall good experience but could offer more for the rate.
Meh....
I usually play at the Trials of Frisco or Frisco Lakes, but got a good deal on a green fee so thought I'd give the Tribute a shot. Good course, but not worth the money. I'd play again at a discounted rate, but this course is nothing better than Frisco Lakes or Trails of Frisco, simply more expensive. Will try another course next time.
Fun Track!
Awesome Course, in great condition. The strong winds off the lake made the course challenging and recreated the true links style. We had a great time and the staff went above and beyond to make sure of that.
Very Nice
The atmosphere pulling up to this course is 2nd to none. Once inside, I can't say they were overly friendly, just simple communication. Basically I gave them my name, he said sign here, handed me a receipt And said give this to the guy at the starting shack. Now, Bob at the starting Shack was awesome. Very informative, very friendly. The course itself was in great shape, only complaint was the ball marks all over the greens. (Not the courses fault, this is just rude golfers). Overall, I was very impressed with The Tribute. The price I paid on Golfnow.com was well worth it. I'll be back many times to come (as long as golfnow.com keeps the hot deals here coming, I'd never pay The Tributes full green fee price)
Poor start, strong finish
The only extremely frustrating part of our round was when we showed up to the first tee. We pulled up two minutes before our tee time to check in with the starter, while the group in front of us tee'd off. Once they drove off we grabbed our clubs and headed to the box. At that time, a group of guys pulled up and after speaking with the starter he informed us that they technically had an earlier tee time and we needed to wait. If you show up after your tee time we shouldn't have to wait, they should. To add insult to injury, while we were waiting on those guys to hit an elderly couple pulled up and guess what, 10-15 min late for their time. Guess who had to wait and was stuck behind them all day. Unacceptable. Nice course with good value but things like that make me want to never come back.
Good course, bad service
The course was in great condition and played well. However the customer service was poor. They told us that we had 20 minutes to finish holes 7-9 or we would be behind a shot gun start without mentioning it before the round. Also there was no one in the snack stand at the turn to refill on water or grab a snack for the back 9. I recommend the course but I will not be back for a while.
This is all About the Golf Course
The Tribute is a classic links course where the designer moved tons of dirt and created mounds, and dips, and nasty creeks.
It seemed as if all the par fives played into the wind, and that there were no easy par threes here.
This layout was created from flat Texas prairie land. This course resembles many of those old Scottish courses and many holes are named for those courses.
The Tribute plays without the punitive pot bunkers and arid areas of hard pan, or the extremely high grasses typical of the Scottish rough.
Here you get nice smooth greens and fast fairways that are tricked up with bumps and curves.
Putting is tough and there are few flat "straight in" putts. There are also plenty of uneven lies.
Because the wind was blowing today the degree of difficulty increased exponentially.
The club house is nice; the pro shop was friendly.
We could use a bit less of the constant din of bagpipe music that goes on forever.
The cart girls are friendly and efficient, but the food at the turn was very tasteless, as was the sandwich prepared by the club.
What you have here is a well-conditioned golf course that plays really tough on windy days.
On most holes your drive can determine your eventual score.
You'll enjoy every shot you hit
The course, the location, and that day the weather all added to the experience. Wide landing areas give you the freedom to attack with your driver. However, do not underestimate the large sloping greens with lots of grain. They can be tough. Didn't stray much but the rough is unforgiving and really not in your way at all. One of my all-time favorite courses in the area.
