The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course
About
A Scottish-themed, links-style track that plays along the shores of Lake Lewisville, The Tribute one-ups the Tour 18 approach of modeling the world’s finest golf holes. Patterned his design after the revered holes of St. Andrews, Troon, Prestwick, etc., Tripp Davis created an immaculate track that rolls over terrain strikingly similar to the dunes and grasses over the Atlantic.
From the tips the course plays to a par 72 7,002 yards, but its most strikingly entertaining feature is its playability from the forward tees. In total, four sets of tees are available to even things out for the high handicappers.
St. Andrews is well represented on the first and last holes at The Tribute, where they offer the world’s largest fairway as a great way to start and finish your round.
Other notes: Don’t forget to inquire about the club’s seven guest rooms and available stay-and -play packages. The facility has hopes of opening another 18 and an adjoining hotel sometime in the near future.
Getting there : From 75 Expressway, take Hwy. 121 west to 423 (main street of The Colony). Turn right (north) to Boyd Road. Turn left, then drive 2.5 miles to the clubhouse.

Great experience
I don't often play courses with $125 green fees. You don't play courses like this for "value". The fairways and greens were in great shape. The rough is really rough. Finding balls in the native grass is challenging and the fairways are not wide on many holes so driving accuracy is important. Pace of play was very good for a Saturday. Very pretty scenery on Lake Lewisville. Overall a vary positive experience. Looking forward to coming back.
Pace of play
Had to cut our round short after a 3+ hour front 9. We we're put directly behind a 4 man scramble tournament with 13 holes remaining. When we inquired about it to the course Marshall on the 7th hole 2:30 minutes into our round at that point he concluded that we were still on pace for a 4:30 round. Had trouble with simple math. Course and facilities were great, service/pace of play was incredibly disappointing. I would not recommend going for that price.
Green course horrendous POP
Course is in very good shape. However pace of play was awful and management makes no effort at improving it. There was no ranger on course at all. Holes are very good replicas and tight lies give a similar feel to playing the real thing
Great replica!
The course was in good condition however the wind did blow true to Scottish golf (25+ MPH).
real deal
Played with buddies from out of town. One agreed it was the best of the 5 courses played in 2.5 days.
Great Links Course
These big greens will test your putting. They are rolling about 9/10 and very smooth. The course is probably 2-3 weeks from having plush fairways.
Great Course, Fun to Play
We really liked the Tribute. Very nice facility. Really liked the layout, and being on the water, it really felt like links golf. The course has in pretty good conditon given the time of year. Greens were fast and held fairly well. The course played fast and hard as you would expect links golf to be. Not overally difficult, but fair. Really liked the explainations of the holes they were modeled after. Staff was very friendly. I would definitey play this course again.
Awesome course
Great course it's just too bad I played in 45 degree weather with 35 mph n winds. This course literally beat me down but had an amazing time and had a great overall experience!!!
Scotland in Frisco
The Tribute is a replica course recreating holes from famous Scottish "Links" courses. It was a cool windy day so it felt a little like Scotland. It is a long course with great vistas and challenging greens. If you are a beginner this is not your course. Many holes have beautiful views of lake Lewisville. Bring some extra balls as there are protected grassland areas where you can not go to retrieve your errant shots. It was a fun and different experience from most Texas courses and worth a try for most golfers.
course is gimmicky
Played on a Sat afternoon. Unfortunately, they had a scramble going on as well, as the pace of play was excruciatingly slow. We called it a day after 12 holes. Yes, the holes are designed after famous links style courses in Europe, but still...this isn't a course that should command more than $100 per round.
Hard to please
excellent layout needs to have some heather or other to make it just a bit more authentic to the real thing but the golf course itself is a blast and laid out well
Could be so great
Every so often I come across a great course in need of some love, and The Tribute fits that bills.
The course design is amazing, and needs no work whatsoever, but that's where the greatness ends. Maintenance of the amenities is below par, and the mood of the staff seems to be apathetic.
Upon arrival I walked into the pro shop and had to wait for the two staffers to stop talking before I could get their attention to check in (when paying $129, shouldn't you be greeted at your car by with a cart?). They had me sign their waiver and gave me a cart key, and never made me feel as if my business was appreciated.
From there, I headed to an adequate range, where there were all of 10 range balls left for me to warm up with (I ended up stealing balls from the chipping green to finish loosening up).
The starter was friendly, but not overly knowledgable. I asked if there was a beverage cart on course and he said he thought he had seen one earlier. She was there, but we saw her on #2, then on #10 where she said it was her last time thru for the day (at 3:30). Apparently people don't get thirsty in the warmest part of the day.
Upon completion of our round, we experienced the bright spot of the staff where an enthusiastic gentleman in his 30s cleaned our clubs green side at 18 and asked us how our round was. Someone should put him in charge of customer service.
Overall, I love this stinking course. The holes are fantastic and the scenery of Lake Lewisville is fantastic. However, at that price point you should have a better overall experience, and it just wasn't there.
This is the perfect links style course
Took my wife for her 50th birthday with another couple. She has only been playing for a year. She said it was one of the best courses she has played!
Least Expensive Scottish golf trip
Truly one of the best courses I have played in the North Texas Area. The day was perfect as was the course. Truly one of the most beautiful courses around. Talking with several who have played many of the true Scottish courses they say they are very close to the real thing. Par on Hogan's Alley was a blast. Will definitely revisit and recommend to others.
Good execution of a fun concept
Course is well designed, well maintained and fun to play. Fairways are wide but you do need to stay in the fairway, and avoid the difficult traps. The greens were well maintained and fast, but the day we play many of those ahead of us did not seem to understand the courtesy of repairing their ball marks on the greens. A great feel of the links course - fun course to play.
Great Course
I love this course, very picturesque....but the greens were a little beat up and it was a 5+ hour round on a late afternoon tee time. I would have been upset if I paid full price but worth the money with the GolfNow discount!
As fun as it is challenging
This course remains my favorite in North Texas. A challenging test of shot placement and windage that never fails to dissapoint. Even with a morning tournament in front of us we finished in 4 hours dead. The staff understands that good golf is about you (or your group) playing against the course without other players coming into the equation. As busy as the course was I could have completely believed that my group were the only people on the whole course. Pure golfing perfection without having to take out a 2nd mortgage.
great course, good value from golf now
Nice course, pricey without a GolfNow deal. Thank you Golf Now!
wrong time of the year
Super friendly staff along with a top notch practice area. The course itself is a treat to play, as the name tribute denotes. it replicates holes from Scotland's best courses. My only issue was that the greens had been punched and sanded so putting was sub par. Haha pun intended.
Overall, great experience
Excellent from tee to green. Greens, though, were inconsistent. Some good, some sanded, and several aerated. Made for a very frustrating putting day but automatic two putts worked nicely.
