The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course
About
A Scottish-themed, links-style track that plays along the shores of Lake Lewisville, The Tribute one-ups the Tour 18 approach of modeling the world’s finest golf holes. Patterned his design after the revered holes of St. Andrews, Troon, Prestwick, etc., Tripp Davis created an immaculate track that rolls over terrain strikingly similar to the dunes and grasses over the Atlantic.
From the tips the course plays to a par 72 7,002 yards, but its most strikingly entertaining feature is its playability from the forward tees. In total, four sets of tees are available to even things out for the high handicappers.
St. Andrews is well represented on the first and last holes at The Tribute, where they offer the world’s largest fairway as a great way to start and finish your round.
Other notes: Don’t forget to inquire about the club’s seven guest rooms and available stay-and -play packages. The facility has hopes of opening another 18 and an adjoining hotel sometime in the near future.
Getting there : From 75 Expressway, take Hwy. 121 west to 423 (main street of The Colony). Turn right (north) to Boyd Road. Turn left, then drive 2.5 miles to the clubhouse.

cold and windy
The course is in good shape for the time of year. The greens are are showing wear but still rolled well. The fairways are always great. It was about 48 degrees with 15-20 wind so the course was empty. My son-in-law and I play fast and we didnt catch up to anyone until 13th hole.
EXCELLENT COURSE
Played with my teenage son here and it was a true joy. Really an enjoyable experience from the pro shop, the Starter and the course. Would have been nice to have someone to clean clubs at the end of the round given the price but all in all a wonderful afternoon of golf.
Excellent Course
It is my second time playing at the Tribute. It always has a great condition to begin with. Always a pleasure to play and I recommend to spend more time on practice green than on the range.
Great Layout
Played for the first time and will book another round shortly! Greens were well maintained for the time of year as well as the rest of the course.
This course has great features
This was a very fun course to play. It was a long course as I played from the back tees. The greens were very fast and running at an 11.5 on stempmeter. It took about 4.5 hours to play though because they had a tournament going at the same time
Awesome fun
When my brother and I planned our golf trip to Dallas this is the one course he was really looking forward to playing. I must say it was awesome. Eventhough I did not have my best game that day, the course was in fantastic shape, the greens were rolling great, and around the greens you can use alot of imagination to get the ball close to the hole. The views were nice and the 17th hole (the road hole) was fun to hit over the shack.
Of all the courses in the DFW area this is unique.
Playing this course for my birthday was worth the drive to get there. There was only 1 person on the staff that did not threat our foursome great. The beer after our round seemed put the bartender to to much trouble.
Great course in need of TLC on the greens
This is the 4th time I've played here and it is a great course but for some reason on this occasion the greens were in need of a lot of attention. It appears that the practice of pitch mark repairing has not been very evident but even so, the ground staff should monitor and take care of this. Other than the greens everything else was spectacular.
great layout - watch out for the wind
Played here in the afternoon with a good 20mph wind. Most of the course is exposed from the lake and so it can be a 3-club difference. Course was in great condition, however whoever was in the mini-tournament in front of us didn't know how to walk on the greens with golf shoes on because we were constantly fixing scuff marks on the green - looked like someone was trying to skate in golf shoes.
The pace of play was horrible for the last 10 holes or so. They must have had big money riding on that mini-tournament in front of us.
Overall this is one of my favorite courses in the metroplex - although a bit pricey but we got a good rate on GolfNow.
Not in it's prime.... But still nice (depending on price).
I first played The Tribute about 8 months ago, and I loved it.... Everything about it was well-maintained; the fairways, greens, bunkers, and even the 'native areas'. Back then, we payed $120 pp, and we were happy to do so.
That said, I played it again a couple of days ago (10/19/2012) and I was disappointed with the condition. The fairways and bunkers were still in really good shape, but the greens were surprisingly slow and in poor condition. It was obvious to me that the course had seen significant (amateur) tournament play, which left the greens bumpy and riddled with un/under-repaired ball marks.
My personal opinion is that if you can get onto the course for $50 or less, its still a good deal, but if you paid anymore than that, you'd be disappointed.
Great Layout But Marginal Conditions
A replica course of 18 famous British Open holes. A wonderful layout near a picturesque lake - too bad the greens were in such poor condition....
Great Links Course
I've been wanting to play this course for a while and it did not disappoint. It is a great links golf course. The bentgrass greens are great and roll true. We played when it was a little soggy from over-night rain so I'm not sure how the fairways are in regards to real links golf. The mounding in the fairways and around the greens is amazing. No surprise, but there are some great golf holes on this track.
For The Money, Go Texas Star
The experience of the Tribute is like no other. Playing close to as true of a links course as you can makes it fun. The added feel of the Scotland holes makes it better.
For the money that they charge I am pretty disappointed. A course that expensive should have GPS on their carts. The course makes the money, upgrade your carts with new technology. The staff was extremely friendly with the exception of the front desk pro. He was kind of snerky and acted like we should feel special that we are playing there.
The main thing for me was the condition of the course itself. The tee boxes were not maintained AT ALL. The tee markers were not done correctly, they had divot repair boxes in the middle of the tees on the par three's, and the greens were TERRIBLE. They all looked like they had acne, and it wasn't from being aerated. If they want to charge this much, close for a month and get the darn greens back to respectable condition.
serene and scottish
very scenic, beautiful clubhouse, friendly staff, cart girl always a plus, course was in very good condition, quite windy.
Great design idea but links golf demands hard and fast conditions.
This course has over-watered bent greens limiting shot choices, a bump and run or a links punch shot just does not work due to the conditions.
It was a long ( 5+ hrs) round that was disappointing on many levels.
THE BEST course I have played.......period
The course is unreal. The best 18 links holes in the world. Started on #1 St. Andrews and the other side was #18 St. Andrews. Course was pristine. Bent greens. Will save just to play here again. The only thing is the gentleman at the front counter haggled me when he charged me $200 at the counter. (I had pre-paid for 4 people online, or so I thought!) He told me I owed $200 and when I questioned (very politely!), he acted like I was sub-human for even asking if it was charging me twice!! Upon review, they were the only one's from GolfNow that charges AT the course, so no big deal. This course was amazing.
