Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Better Times Ahead
This has the foundation for a nice coarse but it needs an influx of cash to bring it back to what it could be. The greens are in very good shape but they are pretty slow. Fairways have a lot of invasive grass spots and some of the bunkers have some grass growing in them. Carts needed replaced a year or two ago but they do work. Just needs someone that cares and has the money to put into the place and the I would recommend because the coarse design is good.
Great course… but
Love this course and will continue to go. But last round was overbooked (had a line of people at tee boxes waiting to tee off) and our cart died on hole 7. Tried calling the pro shop and there was no answer so we pushed the cart for a decent bit until luckily the guy managing the carts came across us and dropped one off (he was absolutely fantastic).
Like I said, great course, but for the money I’d like to have a charged cart and not wait 15-20 minutes on a tee box.
Always a delighful set of challenges
I love this course - one of the very best for 100 miles around - full of fine challenges and in superb condition. The Hotdeal price was perfect.
FL Man misses home
As an occasional visitor to SoCal I try to ferret out good deals on quality courses, hidden gems if you will. That's a tall order in the Orange County realm. Talega was ok, greens were very nice and rolling sweetly, fairways desperately needed attention but to be fair they've received quite a bit of rain here in the last several weeks so the grounds crews have been at a disadvantage. The staff here are very welcoming and accommodating so that was much appreciated. Sadly, this course as it sits today is not a $100+ course, more like $60-70. But, to quote their past governor...it's Cal-ee-fornia, where goods and services are in line with the wages...high. Nice place to visit but as a native Floridian I'm looking forward to my home turf.
Solid Course
Had a Christmas Ever tee time at 11am with awesome weather and hardly anyone on the course. Finished just shy of 3 1/2 hours with the course in great condition.
Although this course is one of my go-to courses, the increase in pricing has caused me to shy away from playing Talega as often and could find similar courses in the area that are priced lower; but if you are in a position where you have some extra cash to spend, this is an excellent option!
Great conditions, great value!
1.) The par 5 over the trees that starts on the opposite side of the cart path caused me and my buddy to upset the group ahead of us when we teed off but I feel like that shows how slow the play was.
2.) They don’t have ball cleaners
Other than those two things, I’d be a member here the course was so well maintained and fun to play!
Impressive
Great course for the money. Would recommend to anyone who wants to play a challenging and fun course with a unique layout. Definitely playing again
Great Pace of Play
Beautiful course, I enjoyed playing here. A few call outs that would improve this course.
- Implement a cart girl. They do not have one so be prepared ahead of time or wait until the back nine for a drink or snack at the grill.
- For $150.00 green fee I would expect a ball cleaner on each hole, they are scarce on this course.
- It would be nice to also have a screen GPS on each cart for the price of play.
