Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Not worth money
A visually appealing course. No cart girl, fairways alittle poor and no cart gps accept this analog thing that protrudes off the steering wheel. $125 is a lot even for OC
Challenging Course
Considering the recent rain, the course as in decent shape. Greens were fast and rolled true. Couple issues with several bunkers without much sand and some spots in fairways roped off due to rains. The layout is amazing and was very challenging in the high winds. I played with locals who played ready golf and we finished the round in 3.5 hours. I enjoyed the course and will be back.
Great course, can't wait to play again!
It was such a beautiful day for golf. It was my 1st time playing here, and it was pretty challenging because I wasn't sure where to hit it or didn't know of some of the hidden traps. But even so, this course was a lot of fun to play. The holes were beautifully setup. There were some crazy holes designs like the par-5 with the blind fairway. Or the par-3 with all the bunkers around the green. The only bad parts of the day was the "cart path only" rule and all the mud. Overall, great course and fun round.
Poorly run
I want this course to be 5 star. I have played this course 3 times and I am disappointed every time I come. The bathrooms are never open. They have no drink cart person. If you want food or drink on the turn it takes at least 30 minutes. The pro-shop looks like a storage room and the lights are never on. The trash cans are always overflowing with trash. It’s quite sad because this course could be pretty nice. It’s just poorly managed and it looks like no one cares. Either they don’t have enough money or whoever runs the course is cheap. Overall condition of the course is ok. If they had a crew that cared the course could be top of the line. I will keep playing here because the rate is fair but if you come just plan to get no service and pack your own food and drinks.
Overpriced
Greens - slow pace
Fairways- patchy. Cart path only due to rain. Standing water
Bunkers- poor drains. Some are packed tight
Grill- slow to almost no service
5 hour round
No cart map. They should at least have hole-maps on tee boxes. Many blind shots
HORRIBLE
Played what will be my last round last Monday.
The course is in disarray and has turned to crap on every level.
Furthermore, they are so over priced for the crap product and service the provide it’s crazy that they are still in business.
The mail in coffin was when I bought a $6 beer and asked if the could throw a splash of Bloody Mary mix on top. Price then jumped to $14.
They explained that it was then a “mixed” drink and wanted $8 for the splash of Bloody Mary mix. I thought I was in the twilight zone so I asked for a manager and believe it or not, he said that’s their policy.
Everything about this course and facility has gone to crap.
My family used to go to their Sunday brunch but no more. They increased their pricing by $20 per but have far less to offer and food is also crap.
Such a shame because this used to be a favorite of mine and many of my friends.
Hopefully somebody will but the course and bring it back to what it once was.
Course is in bad shape
In the past, I played this course a lot but I stopped playing due to poor maintenance. Unfortunately nothing has changed. It has significant Maintenace issues. The greens were fuzzy and needed to be rolled. Very bumpy greens. Tee boxes in bad condition. Fairways not great. No cart girl. Golf carts in very poor condition. The course just doesn’t spend any money to keep it good condition. A new owner/manager is needed. Don’t waste your time.
Great Course - Just too Busy
The course was in great shape. Lovely to play.
The only problem is that it was very slow and I as single did not get paired up. This made the going very slow.
Great greens
Nice greens , tees need grooming. Can’t expect great fairways , but are exceptable. Friendly staff.
Beautiful challenging course; poor pace of play
It took us over 5 hours to play the course. No marshal on course, starter let a group of 4 go in front of the group ahead of us to play back nine...at one point there were 4 groups backed up. For $130 per player this should not happen, and Muni is better managed. Course is challenging. Be prepared to lose balls if you don't shoot straight...rough is really rough...could not find balls in the growth. Wanted to love this course because it's in our backyard...but won't be back...will stick with Muni for local course.
