Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Talega
Lots of improvements taking place. The best staff on any golf course in the area
Not terrible, but not great
Good layout, fun to play. However, I've noticed the conditions have worsened over time. The greens are not bad, but the fairways and rough need some TLC. I wouldn't be bothered by that except the greens fees were steep. Not great value, but a fun track.
Stranded in cart
I rarely write reviews (1 every 10 years). But I had to share my story as a warning to others, and a wake up call to Talega mgmt. My cart battery started to die at about 6pm.. I was on the forth hole. I called the pro shop. No answer. Call went to voicemail. I shared that i was playing alone and the cart was fading fast. I called every 5 minutes from there and, as expected, the cart fully shutdown on the fairway. I called three more times. No answer. I had to hike to a road and call my wife to get me. I never received a call back from Talega.
So if you want to play it safe, bring an extra battery.
Solid So. Cal course.
Talega is a solid track. A few blind shots that’ll have you puzzled but overall solid.
Driving range doesn’t open until 9am so expect to only chip and putt for a warm up with an early tee time.
Challenging, Pretty & Fun
If you spray the ball, beware. But for the golfer who mostly stays in the fairway, this course has just enough challenge to make it interesting. Lots of pretty hills, trees and vistas. Course was in great shape.
Fun day
Course is fun yet challenging, nice layout, greens in pretty good shape, cart staff are top notch cleaning all of the clubs when we were done with the round
Overpriced for course
I think it’s priced the way it is just because it’s in Orange County. It was not worth $ 100 to play here. The greens are a little tricky but we’re in good condition. The fairways were okay, the rough was inconsistent and playing out of the bunkers was either like playing on cement or playing out of the Sahara desert sand dunes. Overall not a bad course but I would not pay to play it again.
Talega
Great course. Great employees that are friendly and very helpful. Some of the bunkers need work. They are repairing the tee boxes and they are looking very nice. Always enjoy playing here
Freddie more from Freddie!
Funky layout. Blind tee shots, distances between holes, poor condition.
Talega
Great course with a great staff on duty. Everyone working is very pleasant and friendly with customers. They make you fell welcome. Special thanks to Carlos who as a starter is very helpful and friendly and always has a smile.
My only suggestion would be to work on the sand bunkers. Some are like concrete and muddy, Other than that it is a great course
Enjoyed the Course
This course was a very nice layout. The course was spread out over a large area and would not be walkable, a cart is required. The course condition was very good and greens were in great shape. The back 9 was certainly more challenging than the front. I played with three local residents that play the course regularly and local knowledge of the course is a must. I enjoyed the course very much.
