Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Always a great time

Great course, but some cranky locals who are in a hurry, but that's fine.

Course is always in great condition, and pace of play was awesome.

Nice course.

Main disappointingly thing was the pace of play. Took almost 5 hours.

A few blind holes on this mountain course

Not too far from San Diego. Great green condition. Some holes are blind shots. So better to have a GPS map device handy. Will come to play again.

Nice course- $$$$

Nice course, club house under construction, no driving range adjacent the course. Not worth $150.

Some Gimmicky Holes

Staff was excellent. Putting green was excellent. Had to go offsite for range, practice bunker, and chipping green, which need some TLC. Course is in good shape. It is tight in some places and a couple of ridiculous holes. For example, long par 5 with creek running through tee shot landing area. No way are you getting there in two. Another par 5 can’t see the fairway, which is blocked by brush. All you can see is a marker essentially where you should aim. Don’t need to play here again.

Need Marshall’s prowling

5-plus hour round unacceptable. No marshal seen on day of play.

Greens excellent! Fringes around greens need work. Patchy fairways.

Very friendly staff.

Not as good as when it first opened but still a very nice track. Especially the back 9.

Not in great shape

This is a decent course, but not in the kind of condition it should be for the cost. There were some ugly spots in the fairways and all the tees were in horrible shape. Otherwise, it’s a nice course. It has some interesting holes. It’s challenging but not unplayable. The greens very undulating but not impossible. They were also much slower than you’d expect, which was helpful because there’s so much slope.

Challenging Course

I liked this place because the design reminded me of some courses at home (Germany) . Especially the back 9 are tough but fun. Fairways were in a good shape and the greens were challenging.

Only the pace of play was too slow.

After all I had a great time with some nice gays playing with.
