Foxtail Golf Club - North Course
About
Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park offers two championship courses, the North and the South, situated in the heart of wine country. The North Course originally opened in 1974 but underwent a major renovation that completely redesigned the layout, improving its conditions and making it more challenging. The par-72 North is considerably longer and more difficult than the par-71 South. The North features multiple doglegs and strategically placed sand traps that will test even the most experienced players. To make the golf course a bit more approachable, water hazards don't play a prominent role, though they do appear on a few holes, and the forward tees are very player friendly. With 36 holes available, Foxtail G.C. is able to host tournaments and events while still having another 18 holes open to the public.

Very nice course
Very nice course, would play again. 2 full 18 holes in great neighborhood.
South Course an excellent value for the casual golfer
Played with a friend of mine on Sunday, August 18th. Tee time at 9:12am. We paid $28/person for 18 holes, including cart. We were ecstatic about getting this price. Tremendous value.
It was just the two of us, but we weren't paired up with another two-some, which we appreciated. We don't play often, so we liked being able to play at our own pace.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable round. The front nine was very slow moving, as there were a few groups bunched up ahead of us, but we were in no rush so it was fine.
I've played the FoxTail South Course probably 6-8 times before, and it is a fairly easy course for the casual/average player. Not too many opportunities to lose golf balls, as long as you keep your drives relatively straight (which I appreciate). There are a few holes with water and some long Par 4s with trees lining the fairway, so I think there are still enough challenges to keep things interesting.
The course is in decent shape, but one thing that REALLY stood out (and I've noticed before at this course), is the amount of standing water everywhere. For the middle of the summer, where it hasn't rained in weeks, the course is borderline flooded in several areas. It didn't really affect our gameplay at all, but it was definitely strange. There were a couple times where I found myself slopping through mud to get to my ball, even though it was barely off the fairway. Just something to keep an eye on, I guess.
All is all, a fun round of golf at a super friendly price. Cheers!
Fun course layout (Noth Course)
My friend and I play every other weekend, he lives in Santa Rosa and I live in Napa and we really enjoy playing the North Course. The course is always kept in great shape with challenging greens. We enjoy the course not only because of location, but mainly you can grip and rip for the majority of the holes. Definitely recommend the "North Course" at Foxtail G.C., an enjoyable layout.
Greens were really fast and wouldn't hold approach or chip shots. Made it challenging.
I would play the course again for the value. There was a twosome in from of us with one player and his 2 year old son. He let him putt after he was done playing while we waited to hit our approach shots.
Advice for Foxtail...no children under the age of 7 on the course. Made no sense at all and it slowed play. That is what the driving range/putting greens are for. Correct?
great value from golf now
great value ($32 with cart) from golf now. beautiful course but confusing to find the north one (36 holes - north & south). beware (!) you must drive the cart through a large intersection (twice) to get to #1 and again after #18. there's a pedestrian cross walk there, but it is nerve wracking driving through when cars are approaching, potentially turning etc.
2 - 4 bunkers on most holes, and the greens were pretty quick. lots of maintenance guys out taking care of the course (don't they have to wear some type of head protection?) which is appreciated. didn't see a washroom on the front 9 till like hole #8 ... which might prove awkward if you drank too much coffee. and cute kids selling golf balls on #15 (?) for "$1 for pro-v's and 50 cents for everything else" (!). super charming, and polite, and only 6 years old! future entrepreneurs.
as well, the first few holes are adjacent to a hotel (doubletree) and a small mall, so saw some people wandering across and beside several fairways. also girls picking blackberries near some some greens. okay i guess, but surprising to me.
range looked okay, but pricey for balls and hitting off mats ...
2some we played with highly recommended windsor golf club up the highway 15 minutes. not on golf now, but looks great on website (former stop for nike tour).
overall an excellent day.
Too Slow!
Five and One Half Hour round due to senior men's group of twenty ahead of us. Brings a new meaning to "While we're young". No one enjoys ten minutes between shots!
Hacker Friendly...Great For Novice!!
Great for someone who can appreciate playing out of their own fairway...fairways are filthy wide, with very little trouble. The course was a tad over watered, many soft spots, but during summer months, what choice do they have in order to keep the couse from drying out....Greens were impeccable, true roll, and fast. Overall, a fun day for $19.00 with cart....Thanks Golfnow
great value
easy course to walk. course has good Cliq-Gear push carts. Course is in good but not great shape
Course is in good condition, superior to the south course
The north course at Foxtail is in good condition. It is superior to the south course. I think it is moderately difficult with a fair amount of sand and water. The only major complaint I have is so many folks wandering around the course in the summer
Great conditions, not crowded, great value
Our foursome played the North course around 11:30 on a Tuesday. Nobody in front of us, nobody really behind us. Course conditions were very good, excellent when you consider the price. Water in a few of the bunkers which is odd considering there hasn't been rain in months. Greens were quick but rolled true.
Food and beverage was more than reasonably priced.
We will definitely return.
Challenging course that is very well kept
This is the best public course that I have played based on upkeep and challenge. It is surprising that it can be so green in the midst of a drought. We have always enjoyed all the sand traps, water, pace of play, and reasonable layout. Any level of golfer can experience some satisfaction and the better golfers will be delighted with the variety of looks.
Great greens, terrible bunkers
I course is in great shape except for the bunkers. The traps have clods of dirt and mud which are almost impossible to hit out of. They seriously need to replace the sand. I'm a good sand player and I had lots of trouble getting out of the traps. Otherwise, I like the course.
An old friend...
Returning to the North Course at Foxtail after many years, it was an enjoyable experience to come back to an old friend. While not the most challenging, or scenic, courses in Sonoma County, this course provides great conditions, adequately maintained greens, and a friendly atmosphere that, I must say, was lacking for a few years. Check-in was enjoyable for the first time in a while.
nice, competitive, well maintained, friendly staff
this course is very enjoyable. very nice surroundings. the only downside was that some of the bunkers were very hard and unplayable. everything else was wonderful.
Had great time golfing today.
The course was in excellent condition and pace of play was excellent also. The staff from check-in to on course marshal were very courteous and up beat. Also, couldn't beat the green fees. It would have been a value at twice what we paid.
Pretty good, but the sand traps are like cookie dough.
Foxtail is a pretty good course in pretty good shape, except the sand traps don't have sand in them, exactly. It's a mixture of clay and sand that you could make pottery with. You can't play a sand shot because the club just bounces on the clay, so you have to play it like you would off asphalt. They really need some attention from maintenance to make them playable. My friend said it's like playing out of cookie dough: sticky and unpredictable. If you play Foxtail, avoid the traps as it is at least a one stroke penalty. Or take a drop as you would from an unplayable lie; they're that bad!
This course has great possibilities. Just doesn't live up to them.
I found the lack of a range Marshall telling. Watching carts drive over the red, white, blue, gold, etc., tees very telling. The pace of play was unbelievable. The group ahead of us was comprised of new players, one lady who was playing off the blue tees and unable to make a distance of greater than 10 ft. Fine if you have a crew with you to support, but the rest of them couldn't play either.
On top of that, the course was underwatered, under cared for, even the putting green was trashed. I was so disappointed with the entire deal, I will never play there again. Why insist on no denim and a dress code when players then wear rags?
This was a fun course to play. It had nice par 3s and 4s, The 5s were challenging but makable in 2.
If you are in the area for the weekend ,this a nice course to play ,it runs through the home and it is cheap on golfnow.com.
Good value
Course is in good shape. The shape of the course has definitely improved. Greens were in great shape. Good course for the money.
awesome greens, good fairway, poor rough
The greens are cut nicely for this course and are all around good. The fairways need some attention on a few holes. The standing water in the rough is frustrating. Great value though
