About
Haggin Oaks boasts two championship golf courses, the Alister MacKenzie Course and the Arcade Creek Course. Designed by the legendary architect known most famously for Augusta National, the Alister MacKenzie Course has a classic but formidable design. The front nine is more open while the back nine is characterized by the stately oaks that line the fairways. The greens are small by modern standards and they play lightning fast. There isn't much water but the Arcade Creek does appear on five holes. The main challenges on this golf course stem from the heavily bunkered greens, which demand accurate shot making and putting. The par-3 16th is the course's signature. A massive oak tree stands to the right of the green and on the other side is the creek, which then wraps around the back. The green also has three distinct sections and if you're not on the right one, you could be facing a dreaded three-putt.

Awesome
Course is in great shape, long and open. Greens pretty good except for some divots but that’s do to players with bad etiquette. I highly recommend this course cause it’s not to hard but to score well you're gonna need a solid game. But overall a great and fun course.
Wide open
Course is real good shape and wide open. Only thing is slow play has a tendency to take you out of your game. Overall a 4 star rating due to great staff and good conditions. I recommend.
never again
It was the first time I played this course so I was excited to see the layout and see how the greens rolled. The fairways where long and the roughs where ROUGH couldn't chip out of a couple sand traps cause it was hard pack like a baseball diamond. After the first couple holes we started to see a lot of homeless people just wandering around the course being loud and inconsiderate. Every water refill station was empty. We where on hole 12 I was chipping onto the green when out of the bushes a couple homeless people started fighting they where screaming curse words while throwing baseball sized rocks at each other and a women was shooting them with a airsoft gun. I WILL NEVER PLAY HERE AGAIN EVEN IF IT IS FREE.
All Fair Complex at Haggin Oaks
What a complex. Very impressed. Having played good public links in southern CA, AZ, NV, and here in Northern CA, this place stands out. In fact the selection of product is better than anywhere I have seen public or private.
The golf course is fair and enjoyable. The crowd that gathers is like the heard showing up on Derby Day. What a scene. I must say it’s fair again as for a championship course it’s not penalizing. Sure there are some shot making opportunities but few risks. And long enough when windy to make it interesting. Not too much tree trouble as the course suggests.
Greens, sand, fairways all good. Tee boxes are perfect. All Bermuda surfaces that are awesome. Greens should be really good thru August until they aerate in later September or October.
Everyone was working hard here on the course, in the clubhouse, on the range, and with the kids teaching at practice facility.
Local flavor here unlike any other in Sacramento.
too wet
The greens rolled well but the course had standing water everywhere. I had to clean my ball off after every shot. one shot into the green my ball plugged. STOP WATERING so much!!!
Slow amateurs
Course was in great shape and greens was fast. But ran into extreme slow play on the back nine. Overall was still a 4 star though. I recommend this course! Thanx for a great round.
Good Conditions
Course was in excellent condition. Pace of play good. Played in the afternoon. Hot deal $12, great bargain.
Long
Course was long but in great shape and challenging from the back. Also great pin location. Highly recommend you bring your A game.
Great staffs!
Good inner city course, well managed speed of play using time keeper on course, everyone works there were kind and helpful, I was paired with a course volunteer who was playing alongside, it was great fun and friendly he even gave me some balls for souvenir and gave me a ride to my RV parked further away. Much appreciated Mr. Brice!
This course is enjoyable to play
We were the first group off so pace of play was excellent we really enjoyed the course and the greens are in great condition other than it seems like there are several players that don’t fix ball marks. We will definitely play here again.
Pro Shop Delays
Decent course in good shape. The wait to check in was 25 minutes as the pro shop people are nice but easily confused and pretty incompetent. Go very, very early to check in. The course marshals need to be a little nicer. Their approach to pace of play needs some serious help.
Golf Board
Only reason why my friend and I choose Alister....GOLF BOARDS!! What an incredible way to enjoy golf. Due to the nature of the board you are standing the whole time which I felt like kept me more engaged. If you haven’t had a chance to try these then you shouldn’t wait much longer! Not to mention the course was in incredible shape. Staff was a bunch of grumpy old men but, was quickly forgotten about once you got on your board and headed down the first fairway.

Very nice course,challenging and 7030 yards from the tips but lots of fun to play and greens were in great shape! Hope to play again here soon.
Decent Course
The course is in fair shape, challenging, but the greens were a little bumpy from plugging. Staff in pro shop and Makenzie Grill are fantastic. Great food too!
wait 3 weeks
Greens recently punched and heavily sanded (some areas could have been called a bunker) . This will be good long term and advised of conditions before starting.
