Cherry Island Golf Course

Piece of play was much better than my last visit, we were a threesome and we were able to finish our round in just under four hours. The bunkers still need work at this course. They try their best to groom them, but they’re just simply isn’t enough dirt/sand.

This was a great course. The way the course is set up can get confusing if you’ve never played it before so pay attention to the signs. They do a pretty good job of keeping it marked. Would play here again.

Played many times over the last 30 years. I haven't played i much the last 5- 10 years. I can say the course and greens are in great shape right now. No complaints at all.

I have been playing this course for years and I have always really liked the greens. They are in great shape, and the ball is rolling true.

Sort of claustrophobic course. T boxes are a little thin and direction can be misconstrued.

Snack Bar was weak and staff seemed really disinterested.

The overall condition of the course was okay, but the pace of play was atrocious. 5.25 hours to play 18 holes is unacceptable, especially when there was no visible effort by the course marshals to engage with the slow players.

Regarding the course conditions, the bunkers are more dirt than sand with some containing very little dirt at all. It’s very difficult to play a “bunker” shot when all the area contains is a hard pan base and a very thin layer of dirt. I’m aware of few, if any, practice areas at golf courses which provide an area to practice bunker shots comparable to these poor conditions.

Love Cherry Island. Haven't been for a while & found great conditions. Enjoyed the company of my playing companions & everyone was very friendly, polite & patient. Made for a wonderful day. Played w/ one of the marshalls who was a blast. Made my day! Love the layout here. Especially the design of the back nine. Every single hole. After the front, going to the back is a totally different experience. Plan your shot doglegs & a couple long par 3s. Exciting. Only gave 3 stars for the Off-Course Amenities having everything closed when we finished w/ folks still on the front nine. I understand it was the end of the day, but the snack place? Really? May be missing significant revenue there in the long run. Nevertheless, I can't wait to return (guess I'll just have to bring my own Gatorade next time!).

Pace of play was getting close to 6 hours. No marshal to be seen. Every time I come they have no carts. Range was closed for some sort of event with bounce houses on Saturday. Who closes the range on a Saturday? Course conditions are rough. Only positive thing was the greens. Pace of play was so bad I left early. All the negatives just ruined the whole round. I probably won’t be back unless it’s half the price.

Course operations are very poor. They space out tee times by only 6 minutes, but don’t have a starter that enforces the pace, so we end up teeing off 20 minutes late! The starter (Asian male) just laughed, acted like there was nothing to be done, ate his food and talked on the radio loudly on the tee box.

They don’t have enough carts for all the people they slam on the course, so players teeing off 20 minutes late were forced to walk.

No on course pace enforcement. Three groups waiting to see off on every hole. Our round took more than 6 hours.

Restaurant and clubhouse closed very early, so no support staff or beverages after the marathon round.

“Ground under repair” everywhere - like on the green and middle of the fairways (hole 2).

Terrible experience and the course really seems ok with just taking advantage of players and packing us like sardines. Going downhill fast.
