Alister MacKenzie at Haggin Oaks Golf Course

About
Haggin Oaks boasts two championship golf courses, the Alister MacKenzie Course and the Arcade Creek Course. Designed by the legendary architect known most famously for Augusta National, the Alister MacKenzie Course has a classic but formidable design. The front nine is more open while the back nine is characterized by the stately oaks that line the fairways. The greens are small by modern standards and they play lightning fast. There isn't much water but the Arcade Creek does appear on five holes. The main challenges on this golf course stem from the heavily bunkered greens, which demand accurate shot making and putting. The par-3 16th is the course's signature. A massive oak tree stands to the right of the green and on the other side is the creek, which then wraps around the back. The green also has three distinct sections and if you're not on the right one, you could be facing a dreaded three-putt.

Slow, slow, slow.
It's close to home so that's a plus. Pretty much wait for the group in front of us on every shot. They were waiting also, so it wasn't any one group as far as I could tell.
The course is open...
My wife and I are not great golfers but love to go out once in awhile and have fun. Here, the pace of play was great, the course is in pretty good shape and the open layout allowed us to just have fun while not spending a lot of time looking for lost golf balls.
Allister Mac - Fun and pretty but not quiet.
Squirrels were everywhere and lots of leaves on the ground made for interesting fall golf. I did not enjoy the planes, trains and freeway drone but the greens were in great condition. The walking pace was slow but it was a holiday weekend. I'll play this course again as soon as I can. Overall, I loved playing the Allister Mac course.
Solid, Above Average Muni
Three sets of tees were used within our foursome and we all found the course fun, challenging enough, and agreed we'd go back. The course is in good shape. It's a great value.
Haggin Oaks is a well maintained great value!
A very fair course with wide fairways and excellent greens. A favorite of mine to play.
COURSE IN GOOD SHAPE...GOOD PRICE FOR THE ROUND...
THE PACE OF PLAY WAS GOOD CONSIDERING A NOON TEE TIME...NO SERIOUS DELAYS FROM PLAYING PARTNERS AND NO SERIOUS DELAYS FROM GROUP AHEAD OF US...
Good
The course was well maintained but didn't know they had fertilized the greens earlier. The weather was great and it made for a great time. Pace of play was good! Staff was friendly! Will definitely be back!!
Course is great for my ability
Always enjoy this course. Is in good shape and is not super difficult.
Great conditions at Haggin Oaks
Morton Golf has really turned things around at Haggin Oaks, not to mention Bartley Cavanaugh and Bing Maloney. The greens were in top shape--the ball rolled very nicely with good speed. Everything else about the course was good, too. The starter was a great guy and set a nice tone for the day.
Being a MacKensey course, was disapointed
Not what I expected--All the other MacKensey courses in the Bay area are much better condition, and better challenge
A perfect day
We got to the course about 45 minutes early and the starter said he could get us out immediately. So we went inside to pay and instead of the $46 per round price that was on GolfNow we got their special price of $29.99. Sweet! This is like hitting all green lights. We then started golfing and the course is in wonderful shape. All the bunkers have freshly groomed sand and the greens have a nice even green grass throughout with no burned out spots. Theres a lot of poa anna so the balls take weird unexpected hops every now and then. But the air is still and warming. It is a perfect fall day and we're hitting most of the fairways. Darn that short game though. We finish the round and have lunch on the patio overlooking the course. The food and service were good. It was a dream day in my wife and my retirement.
Good course to play... nice fairway
This course is good for all players level. I enjoy playing this course.
Great deal with golfnow price
the course was in pretty good condition. Only complaint would be that there was a tournament ahead of us that allowed 6 to 8 people in each group. That is what slowed the round down. The pro shop should have mentioned that when we checked in. Aside from that, I really had a good time and with golfnow it is a good deal.
Best local course!
Great city course. Greens in great shape. Easy course to walk as well. Fantastic pro shop and practice facililty.
Course in decent shape, new sand in some of the bunkers
Its about time there is real sand in their bunkers. It is difficult to hit out of road base on top of hard pan. Course in good shape and the greens were good.
Pace of Play Excellent
Have played Haggin Oaks several times this spring and summer, usually tee off between 11-12. Almost everytime, pace of play has been excellent. Our foursome played in 4 hours on 9-24-13, teed off at 11:45, done by 3:40.
Course a little wet, particularly the bunkers. Greens OK, I've seen them at Haggin this year in better shape.
Great deal on a prepaid time via GolfNow, $29 with a cart.
I thoroughly enjoyed my round at this course.
Played Haggin Oaks MacKenzie for only the 2nd time on a Monday afternoon. I was virtually by myself walking the front nine, but caught up to the groups in front of me by the back. With the wide open fairways, MacKenzie is a great setup for those who want to "swing away", as it were---even stray shots end up in hittable locations most of the time. Fairway grass was in pretty good shape. Nice moguls, making for scenic approaches. Greens were quite soft, making it easy to stick the chips (which, btw, made huge ball marks that MUST be repaired by each player)---I had tons of fun with the lob wedge. Huge amount of sand applied to the greens. I don't know if that made them hard to read, but I couldn't land a putt to save my life! Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed my round at this course.
Good old Haggin Oaks.
Have played this course for many years. Over the years it has changed but it is fun and a test. The course is in good shape when you consider the amount of play it gets.
