Alister MacKenzie at Haggin Oaks Golf Course
About
Haggin Oaks boasts two championship golf courses, the Alister MacKenzie Course and the Arcade Creek Course. Designed by the legendary architect known most famously for Augusta National, the Alister MacKenzie Course has a classic but formidable design. The front nine is more open while the back nine is characterized by the stately oaks that line the fairways. The greens are small by modern standards and they play lightning fast. There isn't much water but the Arcade Creek does appear on five holes. The main challenges on this golf course stem from the heavily bunkered greens, which demand accurate shot making and putting. The par-3 16th is the course's signature. A massive oak tree stands to the right of the green and on the other side is the creek, which then wraps around the back. The green also has three distinct sections and if you're not on the right one, you could be facing a dreaded three-putt.

$15 and not too hot
We walked this course. Pace of play was perfect. We even took a few minute break and sat down on a few benches. A good deal all around.
Nice course
Course was well kept and greens were true. Overall a nice course with a good setup and saw the beverage cart every 4 holes so great service as well.
Great course with some challenges for the begginer
Always enjoyed playing at Hagging Oaks, staff is friendly all the time.
Alistair McKenzie course at Haggin Oaks is a great old track worthy of a visit to Sacramento.
The original McKenzie layout has been altered because of the construction of Highway 80 back in the 50's, but it's a chance to play a course designed by one of the old masters of golf course architecture. It's a relatively flat layout, but the trees are huge and the layout is interesting, All in all it's a fun course to play.
Long walking course!
First time at this course, a lot of walking from green to next tee. No signage pointing to next tee. Basically good condition. Not notable. Seemed long for walking.. whites were 6072yd/slope 116 + long distance between holes... vs say Bing Maloney red 6297yd/120 slope or Ancil Hoffman whites 6016/120, both with easy distance and direction to the next hole. i.e. MacKenzie not well layed out. Wide open fairways, basically easy to play.
Good golf day
Overall enjoyed the course a lot and found it to be well maintained with moderate speed greens. Had no one in front of out foursome so we were able to move right along but were followed by an impatient 3 some who hit into us once. we finished in under 4 1/2 hours.
Greens were above average condition
Pace of play was good and greens rolled good. Fairways could use some help.
Walk in the Park
Overall the course was in fairly good condition. The fairway were a little soft in places by still maintained good roll off the tee. The greens were soft but provided a true roll and the speed varied throughout the round making some putts difficult. The price was fair for walking and would definitely return for another round.
Fun and Easy
Fun course but pretty easy...good if you just want to relax and play without a lot of challenges.
just a bad day of golf.
have not played this course in five years and it showed. the greens are very fast ,fairways decent and i was not ready.i would like to play it one more time for course management.
Greens Don't Roll
First time I've played this course in ten years. I like what they have done to retool several of the holes. I miss some of the really large trees they used to have here. The greens were in nice shape except they appear to be predominantly poa anna. It was nearly impossible for anyone in our foursome to make a putt that didn't hop a couple times on the way to the hole. Couldn't get a nice roll to the hole. That marred an otherwise pleasant golfing experience.
Great golf shop and staff
I arrived early to check out the golf shop. Inventory was amazing and was able to demo the latest irons and drivers. Checked in 30 minutes early and was able to get out 15 minutes ahead of time.
Pace of play was great! course was well maintained.
Some interesting holes, length is the challenge
Great course and the greens have never been in a better shape. They are not that fast but they are smooth and break true. The course has some interesting holes but the very wide fairways and little rough make any mistake easily recoverable. Not worth the full sticker price but for 27 with a cart even on a rainy day this is a good course.
Great course
I don't get to play this course often(live in Placerville) but always enjoy it. Fairways forgiving, difficult pin placements making it fun and challenging. I love the history of this course. It has been there such as long, and is beautiful. Well maintained. Loved it.
For those who need a confidence boost
This course is great to play if you are just coming off playing a hard, target golf track. Flat, easy birdie friendly track for bombing. And that's not a bad thing. Nice people pretty nice conditions. Tee boxes are beat up, but fairways are nice, virtually no rough and the greens are pure and kept up, but a bit slow - flat with a few subtle breaks. Crazy facility, it's a mall for golf.
Pretty good muni
all par 5s are reachable with the exception of one. Most par fours (#5 is the exception) are driver wedge with no real trouble that would force longer players to keep the driver in the bag (from the tips).
Fun course for beginners because the fairways are generous but the greens can be interesting when they are quick.
This course is noisey from cars, trains, and planes. Greens are slow.
This course is very noisy from the auto traffic on 80, the trains passing, the light rail passing and the airplanes flying over.
Some greens are faster than others and some are like velcrow.
Great course for all skill levels
Course was in pretty good shape, greens were smooth, some bare/hardpan spots in the rough. Good for any skill level as long as you play the appropriate set of tees. Normally overpriced ($58 including cart on Saturdays), but the Hot Deals on Golfnow.com make it a great deal.
love this place group outing coming in july
would like to see more marshals to speed up play when your golfing alone or a twosome, this is on the arcade side.
This is a fun course in good condition
I like the course layout. The play could have been much quicker, it it jammed up on the back nine, very slow play.
