Tierra Verde Golf Club
About
Located in a remote southwest part of the city, Tierra Verde is the successful result of Arlington’s Parks and Recreation Department’s effort to provide an upscale, daily fee municipal to complement the other public golf options in town.
Labeled with the new and prestigious Audubon International Signature Certification, this course was the first in Texas and the first municipal course in the world to achieve that honor. The certification signifies that the course was “designed, constructed, and maintained using wildlife conservation and habitat enhancement, water quality management, and water conservation.” What this means for the inconsistent hack is that sprayed shots are not out-of-bounds, but instead buried in a “protected environment.” Unfortunately, the penalty still applies and you’ll need to take your drop. The opening hole is a good example–it’s a basic 355-yard hole, but anything sliced right will find a plum tree thicket, which is the same as hitting it into a lake.
In terms of strategy, you’ll be able to enjoy the generous fairways, but the approaches will require much more precision. Look at the scorecard and get your pars in on the shorter holes, then manage your game to avoid huge numbers on the more difficult holes.
One of the better holes on the front is No. 8, a 518 yard doglegger left that bends hard enough to favor a severe hook. Watch out for the multi-level green and its deceptive turns.
Water is more prominent on the back, as you’ll see on No. 9, a short par 4 that requires a tee shot over water. The narrow fairway squeezes toward the green, and it’s nice to know that the green widens on the back side. The par 5 No. 13 is a birdie hole if you pay attention to the flag position on the huge figure 8 shaped green. This one has water off the tee, as does No. 12. In fact, if you’re short on balls at the turn, you should stock up. Water impacts play time and time again. No. 18, a long par 4 at 437 yards, involves a creek in the fairway that must be carried on the approach.
Other notes: Another bonus at Tierra Verde is the club’s three-hole practice course and lighted driving range.
Getting there : Take US 287 south off of I-20. Find Eden Road and turn right. The entrance is on the left.

Excellent greens
The course was in great shape. Fairways green and the greens were rolling true.
Beautiful course
This course was great. Each hike is in complete solitude and some times you drive quite a ways through the woods to the next hole. Not a lot of water but the it a beautiful Audubon course
Love this course!
I hate courses that have houses on them! That's why I love this place! The greens weren't in great shape but they will get better.
A course with variety
Excellent course that will challenge your game. A good mix of shorter holes with tight fairways and long holes with wider fairways and strategically placed fairway bunkers. Course knowledge is vital for where you want to place your tee shot on many holes. Even though the greens are still coming back from the hard winter, they still roll true.
A little didn't hurt
With a few showers in the morning - the course drained very well and played well, the fairways were excellent and green under repair (from the hard winter) we're coming back nicely
Great Course!
This was my second time to play TV, and it is still one of my favorite courses in the DFW area. They are honest and advertise that their greens are bad due to the winter. There was really only 2-3 greens that were any worse than the rest of the greens in Texas. Other than the greens, the course was in great condition. Plush fairways all around, rarely a bad lie due to course conditions. I would recommend TV to anyone, and can't wait to play it again this summer!
one of my favorite layouts
yes the greens were bumpy. but they are recovering from the extreme winter. the rest of the course was in excellent condition
Love the layout
Unfortunately the greens as a whole were in very poor shape due to fungus/disease, etc. round was 4 1/2+ hous. Too long for so few players on the course. Marshall's were not around except on the first hole.
Poor putting greens!!
I finally was able to play here due to a deal from golfnow and was excited because I had heard great things about this course. I was shocked on how poorly the greens were! It was like putting on gravel. This was on every hole also! I'm sure it was due to the weather but the course could of warned everyone before paying to play here.
Beautiful and challenging course
This is a great course, but difficult if you're very far from the fairway. Somewhat expensive, but by far the best Arlington Municipal course.
Not worth the price...
I love the layout but they have let this course go. The greens are some of the worst I have ever seen. Lake Arlington greens are terrible and they are actually better than Tierra Verde. Just don't do it, I'm warning you.
Green damage
You can tell now which courses took care of their greens during the cold winter and which ones did not. Alas Tierra Verde did not. And for an expensive course that is not right as there are plently in the area at the same price where the greens are in top shape. Because of that I won't play here again this year.
What happened to the greens???
Beautiful clubhouse, fairways were in excellent condition as were the bunkers but the GREENS?! They were in horrible condition...especially when your comparing them to the other course conditions which were excellent. Really hoping they address the greens...would like to play there more often if they do.
Yeah the greens are ground under repair. I guess they didn't want to get their butts out in the cold to take care of them. You can tell now which courses took care of their greens this past winter and which did not.
Just ok
I'd heard about this course being the crown jewel of Arlington golf and I can definitely see where it has been before. As of the day I played the greens were just not good. Spotty, dying, just not very puttable. Everything else was in really good shape.
Most of the greens were terrible!
This has been one of my favorite area courses. In the past it has been almost pristine and the layout is very nice. Unfortunately the greens have gotten away from them. 2/3 of the greens were very bad. Ruined the whole round. Hopefully they will get them back, but hard to understand since most of the area courses have great greens now.
One of our favorites in the DFW area
We've played here before and the course is typically in great condition. It's been a long, cold winter and the course is just starting to shape up and hopefully the greens will too. We couldn't beat the pace of play.
"Nice Golf Course"
The course was nice and fun to play. The fairways were tight, lots of bunkers. The greens were very wet and did not run consistent. There were some areas on some greens with not much grass, but had dirt. They charged for my wife to ride the cart with me. $14, which I thought was crazy. I have not been charged for a family member to ride the cart with me for over ten years. They charged too much for the green fee anyway. Overall the course was over rated. I felt like because I did not live in the area they would stick me with a fee. The place was not that crowed, I can see why. It will be a long time before I play there again. A nice touch they have is they meet you in the parking lot to help with the bags and will take your cart back at the end of the day.
Great course
Enjoyed my round. Great course I will be back. tight tree lined fairways accurate tee shots needed.
Fun course and good holes.
I enjoyed the course a lot. Very friendly staff and the pace was great. We finish 18 holes under 4 hours. I Highly recommend this course.
Hard to believe it's a public course
Great layout, well designed, well maintained, and very scenic. I played in mid-March on one of the first nice days after a relatively rough winter for the area so the course wasn't very green. Having said that, the fairways and greens were still very well manicured. It's laid out through a nature reserve (which probably violates a true nature reserve classification) so it's a very scenic trek. Also, very few holes run near one another so you rarely see others on the course...it also helps with the safety factor that can be problematic at some public courses. I can't wait to get back out there in a month or two, after things get a bit greener. I would highly recommend this course.
I'm not sure when they started, but when I played there in late June they were giving a discount due to the green condition
