Tierra Verde Golf Club
About
Located in a remote southwest part of the city, Tierra Verde is the successful result of Arlington’s Parks and Recreation Department’s effort to provide an upscale, daily fee municipal to complement the other public golf options in town.
Labeled with the new and prestigious Audubon International Signature Certification, this course was the first in Texas and the first municipal course in the world to achieve that honor. The certification signifies that the course was “designed, constructed, and maintained using wildlife conservation and habitat enhancement, water quality management, and water conservation.” What this means for the inconsistent hack is that sprayed shots are not out-of-bounds, but instead buried in a “protected environment.” Unfortunately, the penalty still applies and you’ll need to take your drop. The opening hole is a good example–it’s a basic 355-yard hole, but anything sliced right will find a plum tree thicket, which is the same as hitting it into a lake.
In terms of strategy, you’ll be able to enjoy the generous fairways, but the approaches will require much more precision. Look at the scorecard and get your pars in on the shorter holes, then manage your game to avoid huge numbers on the more difficult holes.
One of the better holes on the front is No. 8, a 518 yard doglegger left that bends hard enough to favor a severe hook. Watch out for the multi-level green and its deceptive turns.
Water is more prominent on the back, as you’ll see on No. 9, a short par 4 that requires a tee shot over water. The narrow fairway squeezes toward the green, and it’s nice to know that the green widens on the back side. The par 5 No. 13 is a birdie hole if you pay attention to the flag position on the huge figure 8 shaped green. This one has water off the tee, as does No. 12. In fact, if you’re short on balls at the turn, you should stock up. Water impacts play time and time again. No. 18, a long par 4 at 437 yards, involves a creek in the fairway that must be carried on the approach.
Other notes: Another bonus at Tierra Verde is the club’s three-hole practice course and lighted driving range.
Getting there : Take US 287 south off of I-20. Find Eden Road and turn right. The entrance is on the left.

Best course in the Dallas/Fort Worth area

Well worth the money
This was my first time playing this course and it will not be my last I have used the driving range and the practice course many times and have always wanted to play but wasn’t able to play the course until today. This course well exceeded my expectations even though it was a crappy weather day I can’t wait to play on a nice sunny day this summer
Nice course
Rained the day before and part way through the night so was a little wet (cart path only) well kept with nice greens. Staff was very friendly

once a year
I get down to Tierra Verde once a year. I always expect good conditions, good food, and a nice layout. The course never disappoints.
Greens were very pretty, very true, but a little slow due to overseeding and wet conditions. Fairways and tee boxes were tight but very playable. I managed to miss all the bunkers, so I can't testify to their condition. The layout here is top notch. A good mix of tight holes, long holes, open holes, and doglegs. You need to be able to move your driver left and right to get in the best positions. The course plays a bit longer than the scorecard yardage - play the right tees!
Threesome played in 3:45 on a holiday morning in the fog. Jim and Tammy from Missouri were great company. No beverage cart girl was a little surprising. Restaurant here is great for burgers and beer.
Tierra Verde is a great test of your golf game. Here and Texas Star are the two best muni's in DFW by far. I will come back to play when the greens are rolling. A fun day on a great course with good people.
And one thing that doesn't get mentioned enough... this is an Audubon course..... not a single house, apartment, or freeway anywhere. Birds chirping, bass swimming, and the occasional coyote or squirrel (one running from the other!). The best solitude in DFW.
Thank you for the 4-Star review. We are appreciative of your visit, and hope to have you return more than once a year. Keep it in the fairway until then..
Tierra verde
It has been several years since playing the course .It continues to be my favorite course in DFW area in golf now. It has rolling terrain I like and excellent greens .It's a pleasure to view.
Thank you for the 5-Star review. We are appreciative of your visit, and hope to have you return sooner than a few years. Keep it in the fairway.
An Excellent Test
The day was perfect to begin with. I practice at this course all the time. The staff is always very friendly and courteous. The ambassadors are always there to take your clubs and place them on the carts. Although I did not use the dining facility this time they have an exceptional rating for food and service. The practice facility is more than adequate for practice or warmup. The course was in excellent shape for this time of year. There were minimal if any leaves in the fairways. You have expect the rough and sides of the course to be different. Most important to all of us the greens were in excellent shape. They rolled moderately fast and true. The bunkers were okay also having had a modest rain recently.

Beautiful course with interesting layout
Course was in great shape when many other courses in the area have let their greens go by now. Seriously the best greens I've played on a muni in the last 6 months. Tee boxes are a little tight from the tips but overall a fun interesting layout that gives you a number of risk/reward choices. Well placed bunkers and a bit of water defend the course, but being out of position didn't totally take you out of the hole. Bunker's we're flooded on this trip -- so didn't have the opportunity to play out of them.
Also, being an Audubon site -- you are surrounded by nature, was very quiet and peaceful.
Thank you for the 5-Star review. We are appreciative of your visit, and hope to have you return soon.
Great layout
Fun course to play. Well designed holes that make you think but are fair. Good pace of play on a nice weather Saturday in November.
Thank you for the 5-Star review. We are appreciative of you visit, and hope to have you return soon.
First time
Other than the Bermuda being dormant, everything was good. Excellent layout, pace of play was excellent. I would play course again & recommend to others to play.
Thank you for the 5-Star review. We are appreciative of you visit, and hope to have you return soon.
One of my favorites
Love most of the holes. Challenging. Make sure and play the correct tee box.
Thank you for your recent 5-Star review. We look forward to your next visit. Keep it in the fairway until then.
Worth the price
Staff was friendly. The course was in great condition. Great layout. They keep the fairways wet around the green. Don't expect much roll if your short. Greens were awesome.
