The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes

Haven't played here in a while, and based on the poor condition of the greens I might not play for some time again. The only other problem I found was the cart paths were in terrible shape and my back is still complaining about them. Overall a good course..

The course has a great layout with wide fairways, but the green are currently in terrible shape. It is impossible to put because of the aerating. Hopefully they will improve over time.

The restaurant is closed, so don't plan to eat there.

Played this course great layout. Unfortunately greens weren’t in great shape. But that is part of this time of year. Staff was friendly but need to open snack bar for morning golfers. A few members were huffy about slow play. It’s not my problem you scheduled a doctors appointment. However we played a full round in 3-1/2 hours. So great pace of play here.

Course should be $20 unlimited play! Greens were ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS!

Enjoyed day and course very much. Fairways were in good shape. Only problem is the greens that they say are being addressed. We played 2 put only if you were within 1 foot. The pace of play was great, 3 hours 28 minutes. The staff in office and starter were very friendly and nice to talk with. The only negative was no snack bar and refreshments available after finishing. All in all very enjoyable.

Greens were dreadful, otherwise course okay. Got a hot deal on Golf Now so value fine, so expectations not high

Call before you book! The greens have been infested with a disease and were terrible. Overall course layout is nice, but don’t spend the money until the greens come back in.

Our round at HH Lakes was a disappointment. We have always enjoyed the course previously but the greens were virtually unputtable. It’s very sad to see the course slip into such bad condition. They reduced the greens fees but it still was not enough to make up for greens where every 5 foot putt was an adventure won’t return anytime soon.

Absolutely every green was a mess. Should not have been charging full green fees.

Beautiful course and setup so I want to acknowledge that. I saw the warnings of the greens and figured it was individuals coming off Hilton Head and expecting a PGA manicured course. This us definitely not the case. From hole in the wall par 3’s, cheap courses today that are under $40 in Savannah, and any course I’ve ever saw.. this is the worst I’ve ever seen greens. Putting was impossible. The ball was skipping, hopping, jumping, practically gyrating the entire time. It took the fun out of the day. Please save your money and play a course around Savannah, you’ll be much happier. I will not play this course again until the greens are replaced or repaired.

While the course is nice and somewhat newer, the greens were terribly affected with poa annua which took away from the experience. The pro shop gave us a discount to play where we paid $50. Apart from that, the course has a nice design, pretty wide open with some challenging holes. Not many people on the course likely due to the problems with the green which is a shame. For people staying on HHI, the 45 minute drive may not be worth it until they get their greens sorted. If I go back, I would play the course again as I did enjoy the course from tee box to approaching the greens. Hopefully they can get the poa annua under control sooner rather than later, at this time I would not recommend to play

The tee boxes and greens were overgrown. The greens were unputtable. They shouldn’t be open to the public. No clubhouse facilities, none.

Positives:

Less than 5 minutes from i95 in Bluffton with public access. GPS will try to take you through gated community, but the road signs take you right to the course.

A cart was brought to me and two of the three others in my group in the parking lot and the gentleman offered to load my bag; I politely declined. We had three carts total which really helped keep pace.

The tee time came with unlimited range balls; $12 value, and the range was in good shape but it needed more driving bays.

The golf course staff were incredibly nice and helpful. The fourth in our group was late and Charlie picked him up in the parking lot and brought him out to us on the course; I offered to delay our tee time, before going out, but the course was busy.

One staff member even cleaned our clubs while we were finishing up on 18.

Negatives:

The greens are in terrible shape. The course would’ve been very enjoyable; the layout is great, but you cannot putt. Weeds on every green. The starter did warn us before going to the first tee, but I would not have booked the round had I known prior.

The clubhouse staff was very rude. The woman working the desk that morning was dismissive and unhelpful. When the fourth in my group showed she reminded him that he was 30 minutes late and that we started without him. Luckily Charlie found him, asked if he was with our group, and brought him to us. When I asked about drinks, food, beverage cart, etc. she said you’re out of luck if you didn’t bring your own. Luckily I brought a water bottle to refill on the course. She said the restaurant/bar there opened at noon; it was 0950, and there was no beverage cart.. So, we made plans to eat there after our round. When we finished and came back to the clubhouse the man working the clubhouse said it didn’t open on Sundays. I reminded him that the woman this morning said it opened at noon. He said well I guess it’s not opening today; it was around 2 pm. Luckily we found a place nearby, without his help.

Overall:

As it states in the title, disappointing and unpleasant. It was all our first and last time to this course and I would not recommend it to anyone that asks.

Fairways were okay, however the greens of EVERY HOLE were unusable. Weeds were so bad on the greens that your ball would only roll 6 inches without bouncing in the air. It's sad honestly, it's a beautiful course. For 75 bucks it's a rip off at the moment, you may as well play your local discount course if you actually want to keep score.

Horrendous! They should have paid us to play it!!!!
