About
Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.
As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.
Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

Rough Round
This course has a really nice layout and potential. I’ve played it three times, and each time it’s been the same conditions. Greens and tees need better maintenece and it was really hard and thin on and around the fairways.
It’s a good value, but there are other options. The guy in the clubhouse needs to realize people come there to relax and enjoy their day, not to get barked at and hurried.
The course has a good layout
I'm impressed with the staff, the layout including the moguls. A few of the greens had "bad" spots, but everything will be very good in a few weeks. A great course for seniors.
Has potential - but conditions bad
This course has potential. The layout has a lot of character. But the conditions, tee to green, were awful. And it's spring. Things likely to get worse when it gets hot. Some tee boxes had little to no grass. The fairways were extremely hard - with sparse grass at times. A center cut drive did not mean a decent lie. The bunkers were hard. The greens were fast but very spotty. At the end of my round, a couple of locals told me the other courses close by were a similar price for better conditions. Do your homework on this one before committing.
We have played here on occasions for more than twenty years . Course conditions are a little rough .
Great layout and good memories.
Not so hood
There was nothing special about this course. Not one hole did I say to myself this is really pretty or this is a good hole. Fairways were narrow, tee boxes were dirt and some of the greens in bad shape. Will not play here again
I enjoyed the round, Good value. Some fairway grass was marginal, but it is just coming out of winter.
Nice Course
Enjoyed playing here. Challenging for me but was a joy. No two holes the same. I played alone and first time I played the course so there were some surprises but that's to be expected. I thought it was a great course and value. The fairways were thin on grass but the time of year and weather were the culprits for that.
Great Value
Staff was friendly and we were able to tee off off 1/2 hour early.
Tee boxes were in poor shape, not much grass to hit off of. Greens were dyed but rolled well.
Fairways were probably the best overall of the courses we played here.
Course is fair and can be scored - did not seem to have as many sand traps as other courses around HHI.
Speed of play was excellent - 18 in just under 4 hours.
