About
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes is a Tom Fazio design that is challenging, but with five sets of tees it is versatile enough for players of all skill levels. Fazio deftly utilized the native wetlands and numerous lakes that are interspersed across the landscape, incorporating them along the expansive fairways and angled greens. The tricky greens have been carefully molded and contoured to offer a variety of pin placements. In addition to the water hazards, there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. The golf course will test your shot-making skills as well as your creativity. To complement the golf course, Hilton Head Lakes offers an equally impressive 36-acre, double-ended practice facility with target greens, bunkers, multiple practice greens, and even a par-3 short course.

Review
Cart path only. Walked 5 miles with cart. Course was wet everywhere. Greens had mixed growth of different grasses.

Greens were bumpy, cart path only after all the rain which was the correct call. Fairways were wide open, not one of fazio’s best layouts

Winter conditions
Rates way to expensive for winter conditions with wet and sparse grass

This course really needs better drainage. It did rain a couple of days ago, but I played another course the day after and it was in better shape than this was. Which is a shame because this is a great course under normal circumstances, but today, it was a mess.

First time
Good layout, but poor shape. Very wet and fairways had very little grass

Very wet but very nice!
Rain ended in the early morning and every step on the course was like walking on a sponge. Solid shots were rewarded with a spray of mud all over you and almost every shot had absolute zero roll. The layout is very nice with an interesting blend of holes, lots of water, good bunkering and exceptional greens. Wide open driving opportunities make this a fair test for all handicap levels. Play forward as the course plays longer than you might think. I’ll have to come back on a hot, dry summer day and play this one again.

Worth the wait !
All I heard since moving down here in June 2020, was that this course was the best bang for the buck! And they were all right ! The scenery was fantastic, the tee boxes were groomed, the fairways bounded forward and rolled, the pine needles were fluffy, and the greens were a putting treat.....they rolled nicely with a good pace. They all had very subtle bends and curves, but were fair at the same time. I can't wait to go back and play this course in season, but left completely satisfied in the off season. First Time
A friend recommended me to the course. Played last November (not sure of the date) Brought my son and our two grandsons. Unfortunately we only got 11 holes because of weather. Hope to get back soon but was not offered a rain check.

Better Weather Better Experience
Played HHL for the second time. First time was in a steady rain for half of the round. This time, in late December, the weather was sunny with minimal breeze and we had a great experience. Played as a twosome and even though we followed a foursome, the pace of play was fine. The greens were in excellent condition and the speed was mid to fast. Most of the tee boxes were in great shape with only the par 3s being fairly heavily sanded. The fairways were over-seeded and a little damp as would be expected, but not severe. The rough was dormant and pretty easy to hit out of. Played the hybrid tees (white tees, with a mixture of greens) at a distance of about 6000 yards which was good for this 59 year old. The layout is great and most trouble is fairly easily avoidable. Overall great experience and will definitely be back.

Nice course! Good Value
My wife is my main golf partner so I do not look for really difficult courses. This is a nice course with some challenging par 4’s. But it is wide open so trees and water do not come into play. I have always been able to play 18 in 3.5 hours. Nice grill with excellent food. Well done!
Crowned holes
This is a fun, challenging course. Biggest negative is the crowning of the holes. It is impossible to lag putt. The ball is pushed to the side before it gets to the hole. If you put faster, it flies over. It is easy to lose 5 strokes on a round of 18.
Another enjoyable golf course
Playing Hilton Head lakes for several years I have found it very enjoyable. Staff is always helpful and friendly.
The course is challenging and fun to play. I personally love the back nine.
The price to play is spot on and there is always a sale at the Pro Shop. Since the grill has open we enjoy stopping for a bit to eat and a drink.
