The 5th. Par-4, 333. Classic drive-and-pitch hole, reflecting the links flavor of many Wintonbury holes. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/14/2021

11. Par-4, 433. A brute that takes no prisoners, and straight uphill from tee to green. Well, you can enjoy the fall scenery, anyway. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/14/2021

The twelfth, a downhill par-3 of 168, gives you a slight breather on a back nine that supplies little respite. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/14/2021

Five is a short but strategic four-par of 333. Beautiful vistas abound on this course. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/28/2020

The downhill 7th, a three-par of 255. Dye believed that long three-pars were the only holes to induce low-handicappers to hit long irons. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/28/2020

Great Course
All in all a great course, I play there 3-4 times a year, greens were fast despite the dew on them which never really dissipated (10:20 start and there was still a little moisture on 18 green when we got there). Rest of course still in great shape. Staff was great with one exception, the only down fall was the was the person running the tavern. We were a little late getting to course, ran in and wanted to get something to drink to start, place was empty, called out twice but NO ONE responded so off I went to first tee!! Carts have GPS and on hole 7 screen comes up with food order. OK now were are getting somewhere, put in order before we tee off on #8 a par 5 played #9 par 3, get to clubhouse and have to wait 20 minutes for food to be done (burger ,fries, turkey sand) so we end up losing our place on #10. Just that one wrinkle puts a "bad taste" in our mouths for the day (sorry lol), so much so we don't go in after the round.
Two minor issues
In general the course was in very good shape, but there were a lot of ball marks on the greens. I don't know if it was from a recent tournament but people need to fix their ball marks. We also had a very slow foursome in front of us who had a whole hole pus open in front of them. We finally skipped a hole after coming up on them still at the tenth tee. Otherwise the pace was good.
It’s a favorite of ours
Always a fun round, it was car path only and there are some hills. But I recommend the course to anyone.
Excellent Course
Great conditions, nice layout, greens rolling very nice, great value if a senior. Would play weekly if it was closer to home!
New local favorite
As advertised, Wintonbury Hills is a beautiful course. Immaculately kept, every hole seems scenic and is challenging. Links style course front 9 and the more classic tree lined back 9. Greens are challenging. This was my first time here and I am sure to be back frequently. Worth the greens fees, no question.
Replace your divots!
Please encourage golfers to use the sand to fill their divots... Every hole had dozens of spots.. It seemed like no one ever fixed divots.. We emptied multiple canisters, trying to fill as many as we could... A beautiful golf course, with super efficient friendly staff..
Carrs
The GPS boundaries in carts are too strict.
Easier to walk and play then back the cart up 50 times to get it moving again. It's a public golf course. You have to expect people spraying balls all over
7/5
Carts tough to lock the break.
Every hole was a 5-10 minute wait to tee off.
Best bacon egg and cheese ever.
Driving range has poor accessibility.
I'd play there more if...
I play the course 2-3 times a year and have been since before COVID, back in 2018. Unfortunately, the Pro Shop staff consistently leaves a bad impression. My very-first experience was off-putting, and it's been the same every time since. The level of rudeness I've encountered from the staff has actually become a joke within my circle of golfers. Even on the most recent visit, my friends who were new to the course immediately expressed how rude the Pro Shop staff was. The course is good, but the Pro Shop staff diminishes the entire experience, making it less likely I'll choose there. It will never be a go-to top pick because of this. And for clarity, it is only the Pro Shop staff I have had issues with, NOT the starters or dining staff.
best public course in ct
every time it’s great, classic pete dye. not long, decent tight, greens are fast but position on the green trumps everything
