The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

NIce challenging course but greens are in need of TLC
This course is challenging and usually in fairly good condition. However, as of (4/4/22), the greens are severely infected with poa annua grass, resulting in bumpy and inconsistent rolls. Other courses suffer from similar affliction, but this is one of the worst we've seen in the metroplex.
Greens are Gone
The greens are in really bad shape and expect them to get worse as the summer months roll in. The staff was very friendly and the layout is great but the greens need lots of love before I will return.
Horrible conditions
This was the worst conditions I’ve seen at this course in years. Fairways and tee boxes are burnt up and hard-pan. Not worth the high rate I paid.
Terrible Condition
I completely understand that the DFW Area is going though a serious drought right now!!! But The Trails was terrible!! Greens had bumps in them! Fairways were like hitting off Asphalt! Tee Box’s were dirt!! The amazing part of it was I paid $75 to play!!!
We didn’t even play the back 9!! It’s not fun to play on a goat pasture!!!
This was the first time I played The Trails in a coupe of years! I was looking forward to it! The course has a nice lay out!! But it will be a while before I play it again!!!
dry and hard pan fairway
Ground is hard everywhere and ball runs a lot. It’s very difficult to predict where the ball stops.
Front 9 greens had some green weeds growing causing them to be bumpy and didn’t get true rolls. Early season golf though and course is usually in great shape so we will see what the next few months bring
Real review
Fun golf course. Range was a hot mess. Pretty much hitting off patches of grass. Practice green was not well maintained. On the course for this time of year was average. Pretty dry and dormant but acceptable. The greens on the front 9 we're in need of some serious help. Had some type of tufted grass littered throughout which made putting senseless. Back 9 was much better! Greens were running super fast with pins in some very difficult locations. Beverage cart was friendly, bar was friendly, marshall could've help put with people playing loud music but I guess that's a thing these days. Would play again in summer time conditions. First time here and shot a 77.
Gone Downhill
Where to start? What once was one of my favorite courses in DFW has taken a turn for the worst. All of the tee boxes are uneven and mostly covered in sand. It’s very hard to find a piece of grass to put your tee down. The carts are starting to show their age and have torn/ripped seats. And the greens….COVERED in Poana. Most putts are a guessing game because they bump and change direction due to the weeds. I hope they get this back to what it used to be because I won’t be going back anytime soon
Very Good Day. Could and windy. No delays.
Fairways in real good shape for this time of year.
Most all Sand Traps need sand and work ongoing to fix.
Greens in good shape but most do have some type of weedy grass that makes the a bit bumpy.
Nice winter round of golf
It was Monday, so the pace of play was excellent (3.5 hours) weather was very nice for early February. I rarely play this course even though I like it a lot. They do not allow single booking on Golf Now, I wish they did. I play at a country club and only play public courses when there are tournaments or events that I can't participate in. Course was in good shape for winter, but there are weeds popping up on the greens that they need to get under control. Was also surprised they hadn't painted the greens and tee boxes as most courses do and some paint the fairways. Golf cart seats are in terrible condition...
Horrible course and conditions
This course was horrible today. The greens were extremely bumpy and even had poana in every green. The fairways were extremely hard due to no grass and dirt and the bunkers had no sand which made them unplayable. I don’t think the course layout is bad, but the condition the course is in makes it unplayable. I got a hot deal to play this course and even then I don’t think it was really worth it. As someone who plays almost all the DFW courses yearly this was by far the most disappointing I have played in a long time.
