The Trails of Frisco Golf Club

About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Rough shape
This course has never had the upkeep & maintenance it should have (in my opinion). The bunkers aren't maintained at all it seems. It has been a few years since I have played this course and it was in just as bad a condition this time as it was the last time. There are lots of bare ground places all around the course. Some of the cart paths look like an earthquake happened to them. Every time I crossed a bridge over a creek I wondered if I was going to make it.
The one bright spot was the greens. They were in good condition and the ball rolled well on them.
I feel like the fee charged was more than deserved for the poor quality of the course. I doubt that I’ll be back any time soon.
Getting better
Course is getting especially with the rain we’ve had. However I think they may not want to cut the fairways and tee boxes so short as that’s how they lose them. Especially come July and August. Course layout is great, they’ve done a lot of work on the sand traps, which are much better, and the greens are pretty good. Some have poiana but hopefully they are fighting that. Really like how they’ve trimmed all the brush around fairways and greens. Really solid course.
The Membership is a scam
They recently changed their membership terms and make claims that it’s now “All Inclusive” with the announcement email claiming “Unlimited Golf”. This is all a lie. They charge you on a tier basis based on time of day and day of week with the only free times being Monday-Thursday. It is still $250 per month but it’s now $30 per round Friday-Sunday. Prior to this change it was on $10 after 2pm on the weekends. I have canceled my membership and will never return to this course and I will suggest to that all my golf buddies avoid this place as well.
Not worth it!
I paid $138 for two of us to play which was supposed to be a good deal. The course is not in good shape, the greens were not consistent. The course is in great need of general maintenance and repair to bridges, cart paths, dirt spots all over the place. This course is very challenging with many trees, tight fairways, lots of creeks and water everywhere. It just wasn't fun. The short game practice area is terrible.
Tough layout but worth the money!
Played here for the first time by booking a tee time on GolfNow for about $40 and definitely worth the money. Course has a tough but very interesting layout which means you might lose few balls if not very accurate off the tee. Greens were super fast and hole locations were diabolical to say the least. Not sure if greens need to be this difficult given the tough layout.. just my two cents. Will definitely come back again!
The course is difficult but interesting.
The course condition is good for the price. It's one of my favorite courses, and I think it's difficult enough to fit in the top 3.
Too expensive
This place is way too expensive for the conditions and also, there have been multiple accounts of racism with staff and patrons.
Pleasant Day
My Son-in-Law was in town, so we decided to get in a round of golf. We had played here before and enjoyed it, so we came back. We were glad we did. The staff is excellent here. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The value received is tremendous, there aren't many courses in the North Dallas area that are a better value. We will be back again in the future. If you haven't tried the course, you definitely should, I believe you will enjoy it!
Decent but expensive
Always like playing this course as it's challenging, but not always in the best shape. It is in pretty decent chape now, but it's not worth $96 and they put way too much soft sand in the bunkers. They went from no sand, to way too much play sand. Your feet sink immediately and the club just gets stuck in it.
Tough but playable for a High HC
Enjoyed the course it was tough with the creek cut ins. If you are a high HC player like me bring extra balls. But overall it was nice. The hot dog at the turn is good and prices are on point.
Poor ahape
Overall the course was in terrible shape. The greens were decent, but every tee box looked like it got torn up with a plow. Very uneven with pits all I’ve them. Almost every bunker was completely unplayable. And for 209.00 for two players, it’s extremely overpriced. Shouldn’t be more than 30-40.00 each in my opinion.
Good fun course
Good fun course to play. Especially if you hit draws; a lot of dog leg lefts.
Nice
Played here before. Course is decent. It’s challenging. Played during winter so probably nicer during peak season. Starter was nice. The tee boxes could use some work and there were spots on course that need some attention. Overall a decent value for around this area. Probably be back someday but not gonna add to top of list.
