The Trails of Frisco Golf Club

About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

#2 green @ Trails Photo submitted by bowhunter817 on 04/10/2013
Great course for beginners
We had a variety of different level of golfers from beginners to seasoned players and e all enjoyed our experience.
Course needs work
Greens are in outstanding shape. Other than that the course needs some work. Tee boxes are dirt, a lot of dirt patches in fairway,
Rough shape
Bridges and cart paths were nearly impassable
Bunkers were not playable
Tee boxes were mostly just dirt
Greens were fortunately in good shape
The course needs a LOT of work before I would play it again
Texas Winter
Course was in really good shape. Fairways starting to go dormant. Greens were in great shape, quick, and ran true.
Maintenance is lacking
I played this course a couple times before and while it is challenging, it was in good shape. Unfortunately when I played the course is pretty awful. Every bunker had mud or dirt and there were cracks in the fairways from lack of watering so I'm not sure whether this is a budgetary issue but somebody is not putting in the money and effort to keep this course up. If they drop the price to maybe $30 I'd play it again but for now, not coming back at the prices they're asking
Solid Greens and That’s It
Course is in pretty rough shape. A lot of bare areas on the fairways and tee boxes, as well as bridges that have planks popping up all across them. Greens were nice but would recommend playing elsewhere for the money if possible.
Decent course - slow play
One of the best values in north dfw, but it gets a ton of play. Yesterday we were told there was no Bev cart, but they didn’t mention no marshalls.
We ended up leaving after nine due to a three hour front nine. It was so bad on number nine that there were four groups on the hole.
Shop staff was very apologetic and gave us a rain check, which we will use in the future.
No marshall...slow play
Course is not being maintained well enough to charge top rates. Majority of traps are hard sand or dirt. Needs better care.
How the mighty have fallen.
Trails of Frisco USED to be one of the best kept courses in the metroplex. My how things have changed. It's a shame because the layout is nice with lots of challenging shots. But the course maintenance is just horrid. The greens are decent, but you can tell that ownership/managment has decided that even though they still charge a premium price, they don't want to provide a premium product. Kind of like the Dallas Cowboys these days, but I digress. On the first tee the starter actually said when asked about the coniditions, "the bunkers are all unplayable". There were bare areas all along all of the fairways, and if you missed the fairway by a foot or two, the chances you would be hitting off of hard dirt were very high. The chipping green is a joke. Not sure why they even have it. It's a small mound that looks like it got hit by Iranian drone bombs. Too bad. We still managed to enjoy the day as we paired up with a couple of guys who lived nearby. When I asked them why they still play here, the response was, "it was the only place we could book a tee time last minute". Well, that makes sense. Why else would you pay this much for a poorly managed course. To be fair, the staff was very friendlly and helpful and I still managed to squeak out a 77 in spite of conditions. But I won't be coming back until I know that they've improved the conditions.
Not so good
Course was in poor shape. Lot of dry cracked ground. Many sand traps unplayable.
