The Trails of Frisco Golf Club

About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Great Track
Love this course and the layout. Course conditions were good, pace was a bit slow, although it was a Holiday week.
Could be a nice course with some TLC
Seems like some portions of this course have been let go considerably. Just need to spend some money to clean it up some and it would be nice. I was surprised for a Frisco course to not be as nice as others I have played at in the area, especially for $65 on a weekday.
Good layout, but some dead areas.
Overall pretty good course. Greens were good for the most part, some patchy spots in and around the fairways, but not terrible.
Great layout, fairway and greens but….
Not well maintained. Not water, No cart around to buy water. So many damaged areas / ground under repair. If you are not in fairway, you are in a patch where you cannot play. Fairways are in great condition and greens are well maintained.
Makes it difficult to rate this course. So, if you play it forr cheap, it is worthwhile
Little Rough
I can see where they are trying to do a few updates to the course but wow it needs some work to be cleaned up. The greens were nice and middle of fairways were decent but the rest of the course was a little rough. Hopefully they can continue to upgrade and get it in to better shape.
Probably nice at one point, but it’s well past its prime.
This course is tough and even good shots aren’t rewarded. There is a lot of water and it’s very tight. There is very little rough area that is playable. Bridges, cart paths, tee boxes and sand traps are all in poor repair. Greens and fairways are decent.
Challenging course, terrible tee boxes and bridges
I love this course and play here often. The fairways are in great shape and I’ve noticed the improvements over the years. The biggest issue is the tee boxes, all of them are uneven and most have large dirt patches and no where to hit from within the tee markers. Most of the bridges feel like a death trap and likely to fall apart soon. Cart paths have broken concrete in most places as well.
It’s a great course and has a ton of challenges, but it’s lacking in what feels like the simple things. I’ve seen a cart girl one time in the last 5 rounds I’ve played (Thursday or Friday afternoon). Tee boxes and cart paths are keeping this place from being an excellent course.
Good shape for a soggy few months
I was impressed with the greens. Conditions seemed pretty good for as much rain as the area has had. Couldn’t hit out of the bunkers. All around had a good time at this course.
Challenging lay out. First time playing, take plenty of balls.
Challenging layout, dangerous conditions.
Fair customer service makes up for a perilous cart path. The cart path is very sketchy in a few spots, and one spot is outright dangerous, with nothing alerting the golfer to a steep drop where the concrete has completely been destroyed. The tee box areas need to be rotated, some are nearly dirt.
There was also quite a bit of trash all over the course. One hole, it looked like some frat boys tossed their red solo cups into some shrubs nearby.
Despite the conditions, the course is challenging and strategic. The club house is nice, bathrooms well kept it seemed.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend it however.
Tough course 1st time out.
A little local knowledge helps with this course because of the blind shots and carry required. Overall considering the amount of rain, the fairways were lush, and greens were in great shape. However, every bunker was filled with water, it was easy to lose a ball if you were in one. There was also debris scattered from the creeks overflowing. But it is a tough course from the blue tees with several blind shots and lots of hazzards to carry. Worm burners or thin shots would eat your lunch.
Too expensive
Definitely not worth $100 green fee. Tee boxes in bad shape, course layout stinks, and no gps in carts.
Rough shape
This course has never had the upkeep & maintenance it should have (in my opinion). The bunkers aren't maintained at all it seems. It has been a few years since I have played this course and it was in just as bad a condition this time as it was the last time. There are lots of bare ground places all around the course. Some of the cart paths look like an earthquake happened to them. Every time I crossed a bridge over a creek I wondered if I was going to make it.
The one bright spot was the greens. They were in good condition and the ball rolled well on them.
I feel like the fee charged was more than deserved for the poor quality of the course. I doubt that I’ll be back any time soon.
