The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Not worth it
I had an 8:28 tee time and we didn't get to tee off until after 9:00. Starter said that was usual. Then every hole was hit and wait. Way too much overgrown grass around, snakes everywhere
One of my new favorite courses!
Played 18 at The Trails of Frisco for the first time today. Gotta say, I was really impressed! Course was in really good shape. Fairways were lush and rough was stout. Greens were awesome! Soft enough for ball to stick and even back up a little, and they rolled extremely true.
Green fee was $30 at 3:40, and we played in an even 4 hours with not a soul in front of us for 18 holes. Very good overall value and experience.
Kind of a haul from north Fort Worth, but well worth the drive. I will definitely go back.
Solid Course
Course was in great shape. I liked that you couldn't use driver on all of the tee boxes which made it challenging. Greens were rolling. Pace of play was the only knock. Had to wait often before hitting next shots.
Nice Layout & Greens
Course played well - Rangers kept pace up and got done in <4hrs. Cart Gals were prompt and cold water where needed. Fairway drying out so hope it rains or the water them. Greens were holding very well, plugged in instances. Overall excellent experience i will be back.
1st time
Really happy I had a chance to play this course, fairways and greens were in great shape, layout was great a few blind shots and tight fairways . Clubhouse a little pricey on drinks. Overall will play again
Bring a lot of balls
The rough is THICK- you can lose ball in rough! and very tight driving course with lots of danger on each hole. I normally lose only 1-2 balls in typical round- but on this course I went through 8! :-(
Best fairways of anywhere so far this year!
After a winter of barren lies and a spring of sparse grass, the round at The Trails was a welcome event. The most lush fairways so far this year and the overall course conditions were excellent. I'm returning soon!
Great shape!
Trails is in great shape right now. I paired up with a single, we flew through the course. Driving range grass is really poor right now, but the course conditions made up for it. I feel bad for those houses at the end of the range, they must get peppered all day with range balls...
I gave 3 stars for the Off-course amenities - the sewage must be bad, because the clubhouse/restrooms/bar area ALWAYS smell horrible.
Other than that, great place :)
Great round!
Very nice course, friendly helpful staff, some holes challenging…overall a pleasant experience
Sunday afternoon 18
Played 18 in 4:20 - not bad for a nice Sunday afternoon. Greens were solid, fairways were greened up, tees were groomed. As other reviews stated - bunkers were awful and unkempt. North winds made several holes extra challenging. About the course - lots of cut-off fairways for big hitters like me. Quite a few blind tee shots as well. Annoying to hit it well off the tee and see the ball ended up in a native area. Lots of 200 yard into the wind second shots. About the staff - nice enough, but sold me range balls for a tee time in 25 minutes and then got called to the tee after hitting 5 balls. Overall - average to slightly better. Take extra balls, you will need them.
Like the course, but pace is terrible
I had a 1:30 tee time on a Friday, and the pace was terrible. It took 2 hr. 45 min to play 9, after which I called it quits. We were backed up 3 groups on number 2. I like the course layout, but I would advise getting an early tee time. That would be a big caveat to recommending this course.
Slow play
Slow play dictated the day along with cart path only rules. The course is fun, every club is utilized in your bag and the greens were true.
Some need to learn course ettiquite
I have played this course before and it presents consistent challenges which is the main reason I like playing it. The problem I keep running into is threesome and foursomes refusing to let faster players play through. On the 6th when I played the course was fairly empty as I was able to play the front nine in an hour but on 12 i encountered a group that after a few holes let me play through. I ran into a foursome on 15 that simply wouldn't budge even though I would arrive on the tee they were on as they were teeing off. All they would do is glare at me then hit their shots and leave which is your perogitive but I was playing as a single and could have been out of their way in less than five minutes but apparenltly their 5-10 searches for lost balls on the last 4 holes were more important than ettiquite. I never saw the marshal to advise them what was happening either. So if you play here beware large groups in front of you as you may be stuck behind them the whole day.
Slowwwww, but in Great shape. Hidden Gem.
The course is in great shape and is fun to play. Paired up with some great guys from the area and had a great time learning the track. Play was extremely slow because of an earlier senior tournament, but the staff was accommodating with a rain check. Can't wait to play the other nine or another round.
Nice pace of play
Played a foursome in under 4 hours with no wait time between holes
I agree. But i dont blame the course(s) right now. Ive played several courses whos bunkers are like that. All because of the rain. Later this summer when it is dry there should be no excuse for hard bunkers.
