Hill Country Golf Club - Creeks/Oaks
About
The Creeks Nine is one of three courses at the Hill Country Golf Club. Named after the creeks that meander through the layout, this course demands accuracy with water coming into play on several holes and numerous strategically placed bunkers. There are also wooded ravines and a variety of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. The Oaks Nine is named for the towering oaks that blanket the course. The courses are situated on over 200 acres of scenic Texas Hill Country, giving them each a beautiful landscape of rolling hills and lush meadows dotted with native oak trees and clear blue lakes. Hill Country Golf Club is also home to a driving range and putting green on addition to the three nines.

Creek Course #9 Photo submitted by GreerGolf on 06/06/2017
Risk/Reward allows for great scoring
First, I am a fan of Arthur Hills designed courses. Half Moon Bay in California, Wingpointe (sadly now lost to us) in Salt Lake City, Legendary Run in Cincinnati, and The Legacy in Las Vegas are all favorites. Straightforward golf is what I like. Go for it, you risk a stroke, be successful, and you get at least par. The Lakes/Creek 18 at Hill Country Golf Club is much the same. No one hole stands out as a signature hole yet many holes give one a Tin Cup "go for it" mentality. If you miss, you are in the water or dry creeks and taking drops. Playing safe on this course will guarantee your handicap stays in place. The Par 3's are easily the toughest holes. Strategic bunkering and undulating greens, with several moving front to back are a great test. The pro shop is top notch and the Antlers Lodge for food and drinks also is highly regarded. Service is outstanding. The course name is a misnomer. No hills to be found with the exception of Arthur!
Hill Country close to it's best
Although a really rough storm came through the night before, the course still looked amazing. The range was closed and the course was "cart path only". I felt that the course, itself, was pretty dry; so walking was uncalled for. However, we still had a really good time.
Not like Target... Expect Less. Pay More.
I wanted to enjoy this course. It was a course I actually saw constructed when I grew up just a few miles away. Well, I finally came back and I was disappointed. First, the staff were a mixed bag of morning emotion. One guy in particular (the starter) made it a terrible experience for my brother and I. We are both in the military and San Antonio is a military city. I set this particular tee time to bond with my brother and it was his first time golfing so he doesn't know all the unspoken rules of golf. Before we even tee' off, this staff member lays into us about how we should dress, act and have, basically berating my brother right in front of me. I'm furious. It's Memorial Day weekend golf and you are treating service members like that? Then this guy leans in on me and says I probably don't know the first thing about golf and is trying to one up me about his golf knowledge and prestige. An opportunity to spend with my brother who I don't see often and this guy ruins our morning before we even start. Anyways, the course proved uninspiring and the greens were in fair shape at best. Number 7 was awful covered with sand and several patches of no grass turf at all. Overall, not a pleasant experience from a course that makes you shell out $90 a round and has a grand resort on it. The clubhouse and amenities are impressive in appearance, but definitely lacks charm or something.
A great deal for a great course!
My friend and I played this course for the first time and it was great, from the staff to the course everything was top notch. The only issue was the greens were not 100% but other then that they still had a pretty good roll. My only thing is I wish I could have played it again so that I could score a little better the second time. A great course and I will be telling all my friends about it! A++++ rating!
Creeks-Oaks
Played the Creeks to Oaks 9s. Slightly different 9s. Creeks was more open. While not extremely wide, it had more forgiving space than Oaks did for sure. Creeks greens looked bad though. Was told by one of the members that they were the worse looking of the 3 9's. Just didn't have much thatch on them at all. Very thin. Not what I would've expected from the Hyatt. The Oaks course was narrow. Many holes were layups short of trees to have an angle. Almost like target golf. Nice, but not the "wide open" modern style of today. Greens were better on this 9. Still not what I would've expected. Hopefully they can get more thatch in by late summer/fall. Fairways and rough were great all around. Carts are nice. GPS was great to have on them. Cart paths were excellent. Great signage to know where to go. Practice facilities were very good. Bunkers around the course were great. If you can overlook some sparse grass and enjoy the country club style golf, I'd definitely recommend.

A Beautiful Day/Golf Course Spoiled
The Good
The golf course is very challenging and has several memorable holes. The course was in good condition.
The Not-so-Good
The facility was completely booked with all tee times filled. As we waited for our tee time, a large group of golfers without tee times wanted to have a tournament so the course accommodated them and we started almost an hour late. The course was so full that once we did get started it took over 6 hours to play.
Another issue that bothered me (maybe just a personal thing), was that I was given my own cart when I arrived and was asked by the starter to pair up with another person in the group that had their own cart. Ordinarily, I would have no problem with this but the person they wanted me to share a cart with was smoking like a chimney. I asked the starter if I could either keep my own cart or pair up with someone in another group because of the smoker and was given a very definitive NO, THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM response. Needless to say, having to inhale second hand smoke for over 6 hours was not the kind of day I was hoping to have.
Hi "u000001277996" We appreciate your honest feedback regarding your recent round with us, and apologize about the back up on the first tee. We had a group contracted that morning who showed up with additional players which unfortunately impacted your experience. We also apologize for the lack of customer service you may have received from the starter. We appreciate your honest feedback and assure you that we will take a closer look to see what may have happened on this particular day and use this as training to better our golf experience. We would love to make it up to you with a promo code If you could please email me directly at **** we would love to make it up to you. Thanks MGT
Thank you!!

Hyatt Hill Country Nice Styel
I used GolfNow.com to get a good rate at this course. Much better than normal price. I found that this would be a little pricey at the normal rate. Overall the course was in good shape, friendly staff, and excellent practice areas. There are 3 9 hole courses. Did find them the Oaks and Creek course to be slightly different. Greens on Creek course were very hilly and difficult while Oaks were not. Plenty of garbage for poor shots but good lies for good shots. Pace of play was good, luckily we were ahead of a large tournament. Would play this again for good rate.
Hi "u000006233435" Thanks for the great review! We are so glad you found an excellent rate on GolfNow and were able to come out and see us. We will pass along the kind words regarding the course conditions and pace of play. Thanks again for the review and we look forward to having you back!

Hi "Juan1781477" Thanks for the excellent review!
Glad I took the opportunity to book a time
I didn’t bring my clubs on this, our first trip to San Antonio so when the opportunity to play came up I jumped at it. I got a Hot Deal and called about renting a set. The pro staff were great and 8 got a nice set of M2 clubs to use. The cart had GPS as well... a great opotion and was a great help for a first timer to this 27 hole track. The only thing that I would have liked would have been more lush greens. Once we played through a slower foursome we cruised right along. Worth the trip there. Outside staff were equally friendly.
Hi "russlefler" Thanks for the great review. We are so glad that our staff was able to accommodate you at the last minute with rental clubs. We appreciate the great feedback and will take a closer look into our greens.
HI "joshsmith12" Thanks for the great review. We are glad you enjoyed the Creek/Oaks combination. The greens are transitioning into the hotter months and should be in excellent shape in the next few weeks. We appreciate the review and hope to see you again soon!
