The Golf Club of Texas
About
The best testament one can give The Golf Club of Texas (formerly known as The Golf Club of Texas at Briggs Ranch) is that it hosts some big local tournaments. The large greens and tee boxes are some of the very best San Antonio has to offer. This is truly a high end facility. If you have not been out to enjoy this course you really need to. The place is all greened up and with the unique landscaping it's just a real pretty experience with great golf. The golf carts are outfitted with GPS which gives accurate distance to the pin and shows the contours of the greens. This track combines Links Style golf with Hill Country golf, giving players a taste of both types of golf. The course is among the best that San Antonio has to offer. The senior staff is very experienced and the service is all that you would expect at a high-value public course. The new clubhouse is beautiful and features a full service restaurant. After playing a round, you will really enjoy just sitting on the porch and taking in the view.

Nice layout
Great course and will be better when they get done working on the bunkers..the pace of play was good until we caught up to the tournament but I still had a great time. Overall I had a great experience.
Great features
Course has great hole differentiation. Great for average golfer. Some construction going on. Fun to hit over workers sometimes....Excellent practice facilities, especially putting green and large chipping area!
Great for "hot deal" , a little over priced for regular fees.]
No water on course.
Great shape
The fairways and greens are in excellent shape. There is lots of work being done on the sand traps and once they get them shaped up it should be a “must play” in San Antonio.
Bunkers are a mess!
Greens in good shape. Need drinking water jugs out on the course!
Don’t play here
The fairways are ok, but that’s it.. Greens are slower than slow, tee boxes are dirt, cart paths are crumbling and like driving the Baja. Pictures on website are photo shopped. Place doesn’t look anything like the photos. Green fee should be about $15 for a course this bad. Very disappointed. Waste of a day I could have played elsewhere.
Train Wreck
Facts: No sand in the bunkers, no meaningful food service, no course marshals, slow bumpy greens, ants everywhere, range closed due to rain the night before, a jungle land just off the fairway and greens that wouldn't take a wedge with loads of spin. The shocking thing--a $62 green fee as a "hot deal." We waited behind a group that had no one in front of them for many holes, but without a marshal, they were free to hold the entire course up. To drive this far and pay this much, this is simply a train wreck.
Course not in good condition, greens are slooooow
The course has been taken over by weeds. The bunkers are being rebuilt which is good because they needed it. The greens....some of the worst I putted on all year. Slow, bumpy and still did not hold a ball on the green.
Disappointed
It seemed like a lot of areas on the course were overgrown. Around the the ponds, in front of tee boxes where the culverts are. Also the restrooms on the course were nasty and infested with ants and spiders everywhere! Bunkers were all being redone. No signage anywhere in the pro shop about the bunkers. I love playing this course just think they are lacking routine maintenance. Pro shop employee never greeted me he just said “I got it” when I checked in and told him I had a tee time through Golf Now. Like it was a bad thing!! No beer and no snack cart.
Unfriendly staff
Very poor course conditions. Staff working on the greens as we played. Staff not wearing masks. Unfriendly marshal.
Bunkers
All of the bunkers are under repair but I was told they would be finished in a couple of weeks. Greens were over seeded but in good shape.
Okay course
Okay golf course with some maintenance issues. The rough and fairways were similar to my backyard. There were lots of ants around a lot of the pins.
Great course, friendly staff and an overall great experience.
Never again.
Friendly staff, but neglected to tell us there was no cart girl with refreshments. The restaurant/ bar closed. The rough was overgrown. I have never seen so many ants on the cart path and in side the pins. Overall not a great experience for the price. If it were $25 cheaper I might be able to justify playing again next time in San Antonio.
Hot day on the course
Fairways were in excellent shape.
Greens were slower than normal.
Reworking the bunkers so they were out of play.
Friendly folks.
Priced right.
I will go back.
Overall, a little let down
Made our tee time and spoke with the pro shop about rental clubs. We were told they would be $25 per set. When we arrived, we were told $45 per set. To add fuel to that fire, two of the three sets were missing clubs, and one of the putters was swapped for a cheap one. When we returned the clubs, the pro shop noticed the mismatched putter and basically accused my brother of being the one who swapped it.
The course was in very rough shape. Most bunkers completely unplayable, greens very thick and didn’t roll well, and extremely bare spots in quite a lot of the rough.
We were stuck behind a 6-some for most of the front nine, and no Marshall at all on the course at all to fix that situation.
Beautiful clubhouse and well stocked pro shop with some good deals on merch. Overall, even with a hot deal, I wouldn’t return to the course as is.
Tee markers were not set out. Very sloppy of the greens-keeper! Sand traps are being worked on and are currently unplayable.
The bunkers will be worked on the entire month of August. This is a much needed repair to them all as their bunkers have always been in bad shape when I play here. I haven't played this course often lately as the last few times I have the course was in so-so shape. I dont like hitting off of rock hard fairways and hitting into hard greens as well. We shall see what happens moving forward with this course shape wise. Can only get better from here. I hope it does.
