The Golf Club of Texas
About
The best testament one can give The Golf Club of Texas (formerly known as The Golf Club of Texas at Briggs Ranch) is that it hosts some big local tournaments. The large greens and tee boxes are some of the very best San Antonio has to offer. This is truly a high end facility. If you have not been out to enjoy this course you really need to. The place is all greened up and with the unique landscaping it's just a real pretty experience with great golf. The golf carts are outfitted with GPS which gives accurate distance to the pin and shows the contours of the greens. This track combines Links Style golf with Hill Country golf, giving players a taste of both types of golf. The course is among the best that San Antonio has to offer. The senior staff is very experienced and the service is all that you would expect at a high-value public course. The new clubhouse is beautiful and features a full service restaurant. After playing a round, you will really enjoy just sitting on the porch and taking in the view.

GCT
Loved the Zoysia Grass that's dominant everywhere (Greens, Fairways, and 1st/2nd cut). The ball sits up very nicely wherever there's Zoysia. Wish the traps had better quality and deeper sand though. We teed off after a very large tourney had just completed and it was smooth sailing all around the course. Great course, staff, and Hot Deal. Some holes are a ways off making it a little tough for walkers.
Plenty of bottled waters and decent green shape
This is a good course. Greens are not that bad but I would like to putt on faster green. Enjoyed my round.
Great potential
The course and club want to be something special, but it appears they are struggling financially. For what is a relatively recent overhaul on the clubhouse and course, it appears neglected or decaying. The course has a great layout, but the greens and fairways were shaggy, the greens were pock-marked, and the cart paths were in bad shape throughout. Beware, also, the GPS distance in the cart is to center of green, not actual pin placement.
The greens are a mess
Great layout tee boxes where in poor shape the greens where extremely poor. The fairways are as good as any in the San Antonio area. Got a great price from Golf Now put the condition of the greens turned a great price to way over priced. Hope they can get the greens up to a playable condition till then would not suggest at any price playing this course.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. The greens and tee boxes are all first-year growth. We expect them to be in far better shape as time goes on. We hope you'll come and play again in the future.
Room for Improvement
The front nine greens were very bumpy. I would look forward to play this course again in a couple of months to see if the greens improve. The fairways were above average. The rough was a bit overgrown. Considering the amount of rain we have had recently, the mowing was a little behind schedule. Over all, it was enjoyable. Pace of play was great, 18 holes in 4 hours. Can't wait to see how the greens react to over-seeding and air ration.
We appreciate the feedback, sidegolf! We, too, are excited for our greens as we progress past first-year growth. Please come and play again soon!
Green Course for Early September
Course was lush, especially the fairways, perhaps too lush...no roll at all on drives, and I was pounding them better than normal. Perhaps could not be mowed due to so much rain lately. The greens must have been aerated recently, they were very bumpy and did not roll true like they always have before. I'll play again because the course is great layout, but, hopefully the greens will have grown out and the bumps gone.
elr100948,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We will continue to try to improve the conditions of the course. We can't wait to see you again.
Reno gone wrong
My sons played in a US Kids Golf tournament today at GCoT and I was excited to finally see the course after the renovation that was done and finalized a year ago. I used to play this course at least monthly when I was in high school and in medical school. It's been about 12 years or more since I have been here. The course underwent extensive renovations to the tune of 6 million according to their website replanting the course tee to green with different varieties of Zoysia grass. The greens were so bad I felt bad for the kids. It was like playing plinko. I could go on about the greens for days. Worst I've seen in a very long time. It's such a shame because the course has such a good layout. It is currently in deplorable condition. The fairways were a C+\B- inconsistent with uneven cutting. The rough looks to be a nice mixture of 50% Zoysia grass and 50% crabgrass. Seriously. Terrible. It's a goat track. Not entirely sure if it's a reno fail or agronomy maintenance fail but sure thing is, there's a fail in there.
u00000243544 ,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. As we go through our first year of growing season the course continues to mature while looking better every day. We do consider areas outside our normal rough to be native areas. In the native areas you will find native grasses off all kinds. Being this is our first year open we have had the opportunity to host great charitable events like the U.S. kids tournament at a minimum costs. WE hope to see you again soon..
Texas heat
The sweat was dripping off my hat by the time I got to the 6th hole. The day before the course received a great deal of rain, but it drained beautifully. Great fairways but a few greens needed work. At the furthest point on the course (from the club house ) the heavens opened up and I got drenched. Sat under a little club house until the weather cleared, and finished up a decent round. If ever I return to SA I will play this course again.
Thegr8t1,
Thanks for leaving a review. We are pleased to hear you had an enjoyable round. We can't wait to see you again soon.
Just alright
Played a little after the rain, so we weren't able to utilize the GPS (even though the course wasn't soggy at all and could've easily tolerated the carts on the course). With that said they need more yardage markers. Course has a nice layout, but the greens were pretty rough, and the practice facilities were just average. Also the cart parts are pretty broken up and need some repair.
crb15,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that you couldn't utilize the GPS because of the rain, we continually try to improve the conditions of the course. We hope to see you again sometime soon.
Friendly staff
Found the people there very friendly and the course was is good shape considering how hot and dry it's been lately. It's a bit out of the way for me but looking forward to playing it again.

Good course
Great value and the course is nice but the greens were not good. Last time I played here everything was great. This time only complaint was the condition of the greens.
alexguerrero,

Greens in BAD shape
I would not pay 40 dollars again to play at 3pm for the condition the course is in. Plenty of other options close to San Antonio and in San Antonio that are in better shape and better priced. Course was in great shape a few months ago. Just disappointed.
Chunky4u ,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize that the course is not in the same shape that it was in only a few months ago. We are constantly trying to improve the conditions. We hope to see you again in the fall.

Ratings skewed by history
Okay, I know this course gets high marks by a lot of folks but I have to think that's because they played the course when it was at its worst back in the 2012-2014 time prior to shutting down. It was a total wasteland back then. So to see how it is now, it is markedly improved. However, it is nowhere near a 4 star course. The course is still completely dried out. The ball bounces and bounds forever (which I know a lot of folks like!), but it also bounds and bounces off of greens. Speaking of the greens...the course has not fully grown in yet so while the greens look nice from a distance, once you are on them, you can see just how thin the grass is on the greens. This would be a good course for beginners/high handicappers. They've cleared out plenty of the trees and brush so it's wide open. But because of high handicappers playing there, the pace can be painfully slow at times. The staff is incredibly friendly and work hard to earn your business. That's a big bonus for me! The practice facilities are decent. Because it's so dry, they've had a hard time maintaining green grass on the range. They lost the original putting green so they put in a make-shift green off to the side. It's dry and hard and on an incline so it's not great. A for effort but C for effectiveness. I feel bad writing this review because the folks over there are so nice but I want you to have a proper perspective of what you're getting. Hope this helps!

Great Customer service
I highly recommend this course
Greens in great shape
Played the Golf Club of Texas on Independence Day. Had an afternoon tee time and the staff was kind enough to let us tee off early. Course was in good shape, especially the greens. The grass in the fairways was good, except it was not green. It was more of a brown color. There were not many people there, so the pace of play was excellent. Probably played in 3 hours. Hole #14 has a temporary tee box due to a sinkhole issue.
They could probably update their signs directing you to each hole. Overall, I would recommend this course.
Thanks for the review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round here at The Golf Club of Texas. We hope to see you back again soon.
A very good golfing experience
I really enjoyed my golf experience!
However there was only 1 small problem. The #8 tee box was very hard to push my tee into the ground. I needed a hammer. I played the blue tees. Thank you I'll be back.
Thanks for the review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round. We look forward to seeing you back again soon.
Impeccable!
I have now played GCT twice. First I shot my personal best, and the second time I bested that score! The conditions are perfect for scoring. Wide range of distances from the tees, and plenty of tees to accommodate all skill levels.
I'll be coming back here for years to come!
Thanks for the review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round. We look forward to having you back again soon.
Thank you for your review, jbsatx! We're continuously working to perfect our conditions and we hope you'll play us again as we continue to improve.
