The best testament one can give The Golf Club of Texas (formerly known as The Golf Club of Texas at Briggs Ranch) is that it hosts some big local tournaments.  The large greens and tee boxes are some of the very best San Antonio has to offer.  This is truly a high end facility. If you have not been out to enjoy this course you really need to.  The place is all greened up and with the unique landscaping it's just a real pretty experience with great golf.   The golf carts are outfitted with GPS which gives accurate distance to the pin and shows the contours of the greens.  This track combines Links Style golf with Hill Country golf, giving players a taste of both types of golf.  The course is among the best that San Antonio has to offer. The senior staff is very experienced and the service is all that you would expect at a high-value public course.  The new clubhouse is beautiful and features a full service restaurant. After playing a round, you will really enjoy just sitting on the porch and taking in the view.

Directions:  20 Minutes from downtown. Take U.S. 90 west to Texas 211 (2 exits past loop 1604) and we on the right.  From downtown take 90 west to Texas 211.

Great Course!

Really had a great experience at this newly re-opened course. Staff was friendly and the bar/restaurant was as good as any I've been to. It's far enough away from town to make it feel like you're escaping but close enough to go on a weekday. The course is still being broken in but overall it was a great place to play.

GCOT Hosts The Birdie Seekers Golf Club of San Antonio

As advertised the course has newly sodded zoysia laid from tee to green. The teeboxes, fairways, and greens were holding up extremely well to the San Antonio extremely hot & no significant rainfall in the past 40 days. The staff was resort style professional and courteous. My club thoroughly enjoyed the venue. The course is an excellent venue for tournaments. It has wide fairways and huge greens that will allow for excellent pace of play. The course rate needs to be lowered. We recommend adding a walking rate (M-Th $18 and Fri - Sun $25) and provide a significant discounted rate (25%) for military and seniors. Bottomline, the course is in great condition but a bit over priced!

Don't waste your time or MONEY!

I was looking forward to the reopening of The Golf Club of Texas after what was supposed to be a major renovation. I was very disappointed to find out that it was still in pretty sad shape. The only OBVIOUS change I noticed was the over inflated price increase to $79. WOW! Many of the greens were still in very poor condition and the putting consistency from one green to the next was lacking. Some fast, some super slow.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. If you go there you will need to be prepared to carry your clubs from you car in the parking lot a pretty far piece down to the driving range where the carts are. No carts are allowed in the parking lot nor can you move the cart closer to get your clubs and there is no bag drop up in front anymore and there DARN SURE isn't anyone to help you get your stuff. Pretty much on your own. Also, you CANNOT HAVE A KEY TO YOUR CART UNTIL 10-15 MINS BEFORE YOUR TEE TIME!

There is very few water stations on the course. I think I counted 3 maybe 4 places where they had ice chests with bottled water. Certainly not enough for how hot it gets here in Texas and there was NO cart girl on duty. The restroom facilities are still lacking with only ONE in the center of the course to cover both front and back nine. Not very convenient.

I was told that they had re-sod the course and it was now 100% Zoysia although there was still a lot of carpet grass to be seen on many of the fairways.

Their main focus seems to be on selling you a San Antonio players pass for an additional $99 which would give you $30 off the regular green fees. At $49 dollars the course would be tolerable but at $79 plus tax it is completely lacking in the amenities that one would expect from a course of that price.

The Birdie Seekers Golf Club Thoughts...

The Golf Club of Texas was the 29 Aug. venue for our club, The Birdie Seekers. We were greeted with a highly professional and courteous staff. The facilities receive high marks, all of the creature comforts await you. The course is in great shape from tee to green. New grass is everywhere. We suggest offering a walking rate in the range of M-Th ($20 to $24) and F-Sun ($25 to $30). And offer a significant military discount rate. The Golf Club of Texas is open and ready for play. The Birdie Seekers Golf Club of San Antonio's seal of approval... granted.

Course in poor condition

The Golf Club of Texas golf course is not in good shape right now. High grass in some of the fairways. The greens are terrible. Basically had to pick up after getting on the green. A few of the greens were ok and they tried to put the pins on the best part of the greens. Not a good experience and I do not recommend this course right now.

Worst course in San Antonio!!

Course definitely needs attention. Greens are horrid.. more dirt than grass, balls will jump and go off line cause they are very badly maintained. Fairways are covered with weeds everywhere! They will also have the sprinklers on during the day so you have to skip a hole or two and drive through a par 5 while getting sprayed by sprinklers..they do have a driving range. But it is rarely open. The last five times i went it was only open once ! I use to go to this course all the time, but now its no where near worth what there asking. Plenty of courses that costs the same or cheaper, that are 100 no 1000% better! Try Alsatian maybe ten minutes away from them, course is way way Way better! And also cheaper! Don't waste your money or time on this course!

Sad !

I played this course when it firs opened. Time and economic conditions have hit this course HARD. Greens have seen way better days, bunkers are black with soot n no sand. Over growth is every ware. Club house yet clean and still pristine sat almost empty of products to buy.
