Looking out on #2 Fairway Photo submitted by walt02554 on 08/25/2013
High price for condition, still a good experience
The lower rating is based on quality vs price. Overall a good experience, but the green fees are too high ($200) for the issues that exist. I played on my birthday with my father, so I didn't mind paying extra for a nicer, less busy experience. Set your expectations accordingly and you will also enjoy your outing.
The on course staff were great and I enjoyed my round at Lost Pines. The greens were fast and very challenging, but had some issues with patchiness. Pace of play was relaxed (not hurried) and I never had to wait thanks to the course not being over booked. Some fairways had been aerated recently, but were otherwise in good shape.
Sad to see
What a shame. It’s a great layout and used to be one of the best courses in Austin. It’s now in horrible condition and twice the price as it used to be. Greens are lost, bunkers rock and tee boxes scruffy. Course is the worst value in all of Austin now - either cut the price in half or start investing in maintaining and repairing the course. Sad.
wouldn't pay more than $110
the normal rate for the weekend was closer to $200. that would be grossly overpaying for the condition that the course is in right now
Good Day
Tee’d off at 2:50 and was able to finish 18. Course is in great condition. Some bunkers were hard and some patchy greens. Greens were slow but pure. Fairways were pure.
Can’t bring myself to come here often anymore because of the rates. Used to play wolf dancer all the time. Friendly staff, great practice area and great layout. I enjoyed the holes they took out a few years ago much more than 4 that were added.
Lost Pines Review
Lost Pines Golf Club offers excellent fairways, good greens with some spotty areas. The service was outstanding and the 3-hour round was a bonus, but at $150, I expected better overall conditions. While the layout was challenging and the experience was enjoyable, the price feels steep for the greens’ inconsistency.
Great Course
Took 2 of my sons out to play and we all had a blast. The course is very challenging for my quality of game but still had a lot of fun... when you made a par you definitely earned it!!!
Course is in good condition
After reading other reviews, I was skeptical of the teeboxes and overall course condition. The teeboxes looked great to me, fairways were pretty good, and a couple of greens had some spotting. But besides that, this course is 100% unique and worth it. Not a house in sight and is pure Texas Hill Country.
Great course with some fixable flaws
Great layout, generally in great shape
A few greens have repairs ongoing. They do look as if they have settled lower than preferred. Looks like feral hog damage on 17 and 18.
I do look forward to going back.
Nice fun course
I had played this course just once before but didn’t remember it very well…I will now for the next time I play here! A very enjoyable layout, loved the combination of grip and rip holes (BUT you’d better be accurate!!) and the holes that required less than Driver off the tee and strategic layups. The course was in pretty decent condition and thanks to recent rains the greens were fairly receptive. Can’t talk to the quality of sand, thankfully I got lucky and avoided all the bunkers littering the course 😃.
Great experience
I loved the layout of this course, and had a great time playing it.. only reason I didn’t say 5 stars was the rough patches on some of the greens. And a lot of unfixed divots that affected my putts.
Bring back Wolfdancer
When Wolfdancer became Lost Pines Golf Club everything started to go downhill. Tee boxes are neglected, bunkers are neglected, and greens have gone from some of the best in the Austin area to slow, unhealthy and bumpy. They tore out 4 ending holes. These included a fun drivable par 4 a longer par 4 with a slanting green, a nice par 3 where wind was always a factor and a great finishing par 5 that made match play interesting. The new holes are not as good as what they tore out. With the increased greens fees and decreased quality Hyatt has lost my business.

Enjoyable Course but
Played Lost Pines for the first time. Nice layout and played about 6400 yards from the white tees. Beautiful views. Not too demanding. Greens are receptive and very consistent in speed. Traps need to have more sand. The few that I landed in were more packed dirt. I was a bit disappointed in the tee boxes, very inconsistent with a lot of bare spots and had to move my tee up position a few times due to uneven footing(holes that were unseen). Understanding it’s a resort course and gets a lot of play, I was glad I had a discounted rate, as I see a rate of $190 a bit overpriced for this course. The 18th hole’s fairway is pretty torn up due to some wildlife destruction, but that didn’t figure into my review.
Challenge
Several tees allow differing skill level players to compete. Course design is uniquely built into area topography creating unique and challenging holes. Back nine some greens were damaged but it didn’t impact our play.
Played mid week with a little rain so not crowded and we played in just under 4 hours.
