About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Greens still bumpy
Course is in nice shape given all the wet weather lately.
Greens had been sanded and punched a week ago and still had lots of holes that have not grown in yet. Made putting somewhat bumpy, but should be great in another week.
Cart Path Only But
Considering all the rain Monday and Tuesday, we played Wednesday 9AM. Overall course was pretty good, with some wet areas as expected. Greens had been spiked and sanded, so that kept me from giving 5 stars for conditions. I am sure next week they should be pretty good and excellent in two weeks. Bunkers were wet but mostly playable, did take drops out of soggy ones.
Great Day To Break in New Driver and Irons
Had one of my best golf days ever! Just bought new Cobra Speedzone Driver the day before and it performed beyond my expectations. Also 2nd time out with my Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo irons and they didn't disappoint! Shot 90! Also first time for my golf buddy to be out after recovering from knee surgery 5 months ago and we tied. Also played with a couple of great guys that were partnered with us.
Might be the best public course in Austin/RR right now
Conditions have been exceptional for awhile. Course is always fun and challenging. Love it.

It was 85 today and no water on the course. You can’t take a cooler and no water!
Course is in PHENOMENAL condition
I haven’t played here in at least 5 years but the course is easily in the best condition I’ve ever seen. Everyone was so friendly, the started DJ is one of a kind pleasure to meet. We played in exactly 4 hours (fastest round I’ve played in months) and it was perfect. Whatever they are doing at Star Ranch is working, I’m sad I haven’t been out in so long.
Very Nice Condition
Enjoyed the course. Very good conditions and various tee boxes make it fair but challenging for all handicaps.
A few water holes but mostly open with traps the guard most greens to keep you honest. Pace of play was OK but should be better because most golfers should keep ball in play.
