this course was fun
This course has no water in play. The fairways were brown, Buy the greens are in good shape. I'll play it again only at a hot deal. I would not pay full price.
The staff was nice and I liked having GPS on the cart. But there are a lot of nicer courses for less in my area.
Not overseeded
Very poor course conditions. Fairways not overseeded. I have never played a course in Florida where the fairways were not overseeded. I don't think I had a decent lie the whole round. Pretty much playing off dirt. In front of us was a whole family playing. They had 4 carts! How does a course allow this? I'm done with Huntington, even at the discounted golfnow.com rates.
Will not play again
Poor condition , no play again. Never have seen a course that had an inch of growth on them I have been golfing for 51 years and this is the worst . Truth !!
Similar in quality to Pine Ridge Country Club
9:44 tee time w/ wife. Has small Pro Shop w/ minimal merchandise. Small food/drink area also in same bldg. Fun layout but course is generally rough around the edges. Tree lined course w/ wide landing areas for tee shots. Plenty of dog leg holes. Has hills & undulations in fairways. Tee boxes not in good shape on some holes: weedy & sparse. Fairways are also sparsely grassed & weedy. Roughs are sparse & low making it easy to spot errant shots. Predominantly elevated greens that are hairy & slow putting. A few greens w/ large bare spots. Carts have GPS & are gas powered. Carts have front windshield but no rain cover in back for bags. All in all had a good time & especially liked the price through Group Golfer.
this course is a goat ranch
The greens were burnt up and the fairways were all weeds and sand. Would not ever play this course again nor recommend it to anyone.
This course needs work
The greens have recently been seeded and new grass is coming up however the seeding effort seemed inconsistent and patchy. A lot of the seed did not germinate. Work was ongoing on the irrigation system and may explain why the seeding effort seems limited. A two star course right now. The Golf Now price was low so we weren't overly disappointed.
Nice layout-needs operating $$
The layout of the course goes through pretty "ocala" type woods. Each hole has plenty of space and was a refreshing break from playing though houses too close together. There is evidence of the "great recession" as the greens, tees and fairways show a much reduced "standard of care". Many people use the word "maintenance" when they mean the level of care and/or operation.
This course, with an improved turf program, would be one of my favorites (first time playing it)
It is real golf. You are playing in a mowed cow pasture.
It is real golf. You are playing in a mowed cow pasture. The only difference is that you are not walking in cow dung. There are more weeds than there is grass. If I had paid the full price I would have asked for my money back.
A great layout, but the greens need urgent attention. Good value for money with Golfnow.
Enjoyed our day at Huntington despite the poor condition of the Greens, would definitely return
This course needs attention.
The course was very easy. There are a lot of weeds in the greens. Very bumpy driving on the fairway with cart. Needs maintenance badly.
Simple course, great track for beginners
First: Don't just assume your gps knows where it is going.. Mine took me to the wrong place twice. One of those is down a dirt road behind summerglen (this is not the right place so turn around early if you run into this)
Second: I hope that they are able to punch their greens soon, the compaction on the greens has allowed poana to take over most of the greens and the softest wedge shots take off hard when they land on the greens.
This is a great track for a beginner to start on, their is relatively little trouble on the course (first bunker was on the 5th hole and they are super shallow bunkers as well).
Warrior is trying to bring this and Marion Oaks around they just need some play, I would think that they should advertise to beginner/junior events here since they have a range that is in great looking shape and a rustic cozy clubhouse.
Not worth paying more than $5.00 a round.
The condition of this course was very poor. Warrior Golf owns this course and I wonder if they know its actual condition. It is little better than a cow pasture. The golf carts were almost new and in good condition, however, you could not drive them very fast because the course was like driving on a washboard. I would not recommend this course unless you could not play anywhere else and wanted to waste a couple of hours.
Look for a better course, even at this price.
We refer to this course as the cow pasture. Fairways and cart paths are very bumpy. In the past the greens have been very good, but now they have been taken over by crab grass.
needs some attention
nice layout but it needs a lot of work. I know the owners are going to start fixing late summer.
An interesting, fun layout.
It's too bad this course isn't in better condition because the layout is very interesting and a lot of fun. I played the whole round from the blue tees and only hit driver once--on #1. Otherwise it was 3-wood off the tee because position is more important than distance. However, the fairways were a disaster and every green was infused with some kind of weed that made putting a hit-or-miss proposition. I'm not sure if there is an irrigation system on this course, or even if they have that capability being out in the middle of nowhere like it is, but I think frequent watering would help the bermuda take hold better and choke out the weeds. The rough was all weeds, but every bunker had been groomed, so that was a plus. This is a better course to play in the winter when the rye overseed has grown in. If I had the money I'd buy it, shut it down for 6 months to get it in shape and make it a destination golf course for the Ocala, FL area--the routing is that good!
good deal, convenient, and fun
enjoyed the track and played with no delays. Directions given on line by Golf Now were cumbersome and indirect. great deal on short notice (your specialty).
Great layout. Fairways and greens were rough.
Nice layout, but both fairways and greens were in rough shape. We really liked and used the GPS device provided in each cart.
Needs major overhaul. Layout is great.
This is probably the worst course in Florida for grass, bumps, the greens were all sand, back nine was closed for aeriation. But there are not a lot of people on the course. It could use a major overhaul. But I do like to play there for some insane reason.
Deteriorating Rapidly
I play this course on a fairly regular basis. In my opinion the last month has seen a marked decline in the quality of the fairways and greens. While FL heat plays a part in this I also believe there are fewer staff personnel than typical to care for the course. I'm looking soon for improvements or I'll be playing elsewhere.
