Great day for golf at the Moc!
We played fast... just over 3 hours. Nice conditions. Some turf repairs were being made on some of the greens... they should be great when everything grows in. We come from St. Pete... so it's a short trip right over the Skyway.
Mediocre at best
We’ve played tournaments there for years. It has become a bootleg course. We were the first group to tee off on a Saturday morning and got through the front 9 quickly, to pull up to hole 10 with 5 carts waiting to tee off. Meanwhile, two other foursomes had already teed off. The gentlemen (not his fault, just poorly managed in the clubhouse) said we could either wait for everyone else & tee off after OR play the front 9 again. Unfortunately had to choose the latter. Again, poorly managed. We understand that nothing works perfectly, but it’s not the first time we’ve experienced rookie-like tee time issues. It’s a free for all for all the people who live near the course that bring their own carts and no one seems to know what to do. Last time we’ll play there.
Good Value for the money
WE had perfect weather for our round of golf. Some greens are in outstanding condition and others need work. Staff is friendly and helpful. I would recommend this course for your average golfer.
Condition
With all the ponds on the cours you would think they would water more. You either hit from the fairway that has dead grass or you hit from the rough that is sand and 4 inch weeds.
Thank you for leaving a review. I just wanted to clarify a couple of points for you. There is only one main pond used for irrigation on the golf course and we do use it to water tees, fairways , and greens. Our greens had been over watered by our superintendent who is no longer employed by us and the new superintendent is purposely drying the greens out to get rid of algae and the overseed as we move into the warmer climate. The fairways are dormant and when you do not overseed we are at the mercy of dormant grass. It’s not dead but needs the ground temperature to reach 73 degrees for the Bermuda grass to kick back into gear. We did a very big fertilizer program two weeks ago with a polymer coating and it is time and temperature release and should be active in the next couple of weeks. Thank you again for playing.
Great Day of Golf
Course is pleasant to play. Some greens need work. There is construction going on in front of the course making the course a little difficult to get to.
OK course
First off there isn’t anyone to greet you. No help with your clubs and no carts. Check in went smoothly and was handed the keys to the carts. Group of 20 ahead of us and 12 behind but the starter let us in a little early and got off OK. Slow start and had some backups.
Course was fair condition. Grad in fairways was too short and the greens were too long(slow). Some bare spots on the greens also.
Probably won’t play here again as it really hasn’t changed much since my last round 5 years or so years ago and it’s a drive from my south Bradenton villa.
Nice course with lots of water
Course is challenging due to water on majority of holes. Reachable pars or birdies if you can stay on fairways. Will play again.
Not with it
This course is not in good shape. And they let people go out anyway at all, meaning, the were 2 twosome in front of us that were very slow and many more as we viewed the course during play. For the price I could never do it again, but I never played it and wanted to see how it was. Once is enough.
Moccasin wallow
Course was nice easily played, greens need cut very slow, pace of play was terrible, needed rangers to enforce time limits to golfer who take longer time to play, waited for a group that took 35 per hole, disappointing
Enjoyable Course
Check-in was quick and we are on our way 10 minutes early. The fairways were in good shape. The course has enough challenges to keep experienced players happy but not too difficult for everyone else. We stopped for a bite to eat after the front 9 and the food was reasonable and good. This was the first time playing this course and will definitely return.
4 hours
Great pace for foursome. Conditions have improved significantly since I last played here a year ago. We enjoyed the course, good variety, demanding enough. Greens in great shape.
Worth the drive
Course was in great shape and the green were perfect except for maybe two. Pro shop, starter and bar servers were very pleasant. Disappointed that there was no bev service that day and the only refills of drinking water were from a fountain and not from a supplied iced down water cooler. Would definitely make the drive from Venice again to play the course again.
Very nice
I liked it. Conditions of fairways and greens were really good. The layout was interesting. Especially since I'd never played there before. I loved the turf used on the range. I'll definitely play again.
This used to be named Imperial Lakewoods. And from what I hear, had really gone down hill. It's now under new ownership and they've put the money into the course. I don't care much about off-course amenities.
Diamond in a Rough
Totally enjoyed the course. Due to hotel check out we showed up early. The starter allowed us to start early with a hot deal. Everything about the round was positive. I would recommend this for both course design and value.
Play this course
They are working hard to get this course in great shape not quite there yet but close it is worth playing
I understand and apologize for my starter made a huge mistake. I reprimanded him as he was never given permission to have the large group who had tee-times on the first hole at 9:00 am and he completely messed up. I was not made aware of this until 9:45 as I am extremely embarrassed as no one is allowed off the back without my permission. I am sorry that your day was not very good and I understand why you will tell all of your friends never to play with us again. I wish I had been there to rectify the situation and have not had the opportunity to.
