Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

Great potential
Course is layed out very nice with plenty of opportunities to use all of your clubs. Was not busy in May on afternoon. Finish play in less than 3 hours.
Greens were shaggy and plenty of bare spots. Fairways were sandy, but course has potential and I would play again.
Full length, quarter of the price
Given it was $35 for 18 with a cart, it was worth it. Solid 2.5/5.
Bare spot? Move it to the grass 2 feet over. Uneven greens? I’m a double putter at best anyways. No rush, no fuss, we enjoyed our laid back round. I have learned that course conditions do not really affect my play that much- I can hack my way through a $30 round just as well as a $120 round.
I really liked the layout, in its heyday this course must have played great. Right now it’s in disrepair with glimpses of its glory. Enjoyed the different holes, good mix of 5s, 4s and long 3s. Made you consider shots not just a big guns off the tee. Small pro shop, looks like they had some snacks and bevvies but I’d bring anything you might want.
If you know what to expect you won’t be disappointed. If you’re questioning it, stick to the $60+ courses in the area. Doesn’t compare to Chi Chi, Lansbrooke, Clearwater CC which I’ve played in the last couple weeks as well, but Tarpon Woods will now have a spot on my value list if I want a full length 72 (for shorter I much prefer Countryway).
You get what you pay for
I have seen a lot of negative comments about this course. The course isnt awful, you get what you pay for. I paid $13 for 9 holes, i knew going in that if im only paying $13 for 9 holes the course isnt going to be amazing. You get what you paid for. If you’re going to this course it’s for two reasons. Reason 1 - you just want to go for a quick round of golf and not have to pay a lot of money for your round or reason 2 - you’re not good at golf and this course gives you the chance to learn and get better for cheap without having to worry about pace of play. There is no pace of play at this course since there is not a soul out on the course ever. If you play this course and complain, it’s your own fault. The price of a course speaks to the conditions
Could be a good course
This course has potential need a lot of work done on the course and the pro shop also needs a lot of work looks like they don’t have much of a maintenance staff. This course be a good course with some love and care and money also couldn’t finish my round the owner or person at the pro shop wanted to close early is was only like 3:45
Time to put the dog down.
It’s time to just close it down. I hate saying bad things but even the wild life doesn’t go there anymore. Except the 1 crow that took my bag of chips.
Best bang for your buck
I’ve played a few times now and the course is great. They’re doing some work on the back nine so some tee boxes are shot for the time being, but besides that the course is excellent and I’ve never been behind a group. $13 to ride for 9 holes is unbeatable anywhere else in Tampa.
This course needs a LOT of help!
Let's start with the conditions. Absolutely terrible!
There were only 2 greens that didn't have MAJOR brown ,rough and unplayable patches.
The fairways and tee boxes were in extremely rough conditions.
I won't be back.
Course should be closed
I hate to write this be this course is one of worse place in Greater Tampa Bay. Tee boxes, no grass or just weeds. Fairway no better and greens are so bad that you have to move ball around to get good patch on 13 of 18 holes. Not single bunker has been dragged in months. Clubhouse looks like hurricane damage but no reconstruction. I payed over $60 per person and that was embarrassing. Only saving grace was no one was on the course.
The worst course ever
It seems as though the owners of this course have plotted an aggressive attack against those that live in this neighborhood. Nothing has been mowed, other than some of the greens in weeks. There are essential hay bales all over the course. They should be ashamed to charge anybody any money to play here.
Bring the right people and attitude and youll have fun
Place is a dump but is wide open and cheap. Bring some friends and just go out to have fun. Guy in the pro shop lit us up on the turn for “Driving on the green” on hole nine, Mind you we were about 30 yards from the green in the crab grass they called a fairway. Do what you will what this info.
Played twice- first & last time
Horrible- worst fairways half dead/ same for greens- unfortunately I have wasted my time to play 5 holes and left.
Really Fun experience
Got to this course for a twilight round and the pro shop attendee couldn’t have been cooler . Gave me a free water, chopped it up with me, gave me some course tips and even offered to let me have a test run of the course before paying. Just a great guy and could tell he is a little frustrated by the course condition. Course itself is hard - fairways and greens in pretty rough condition (back 9 is significantly better than the front). The greens are TINY and tough to stick. Lots of dog legs, put away the driver. Ranger had me collecting the pins for him, just a lot of character here at this course and you can tell the people who work there are just wonderful people. Really fun layout and worth a $25 price tag for a twilight round to hack the ball around. Fun course and great day.
The course layout is great and it’s a great challenge.
Unfortunately this time of year, Bermuda grass becomes dormant. The rye grass seed hasn’t germinated in many areas on tees and greens. Because the fairways were not over seeded, there’s not much grass growth in the fairways. The tees are okay and the greens are coming along nicely. Out of 18 greens, 4 of them have “mine fields” that you will putt through. On a very positive note, this course has really improved the last 30 days. Once the weather stays above 70 degrees and with lots of watering, the course conditions will improve even more. Overall, I had a great time and took advantage of a GolfNow Hit deal. This course is worth checking out and playing as long as the rate is below $35.
OK for a low fee.
Not much grass in the fairways, I'm guessing it's not being watered much. Tee boxes are ok. Greens are playable..but slow...and small. Bunkers need sand, lots of weeds around greens...
Price was reasonable but this course needs some TLC.
I would play it again for no more than $35.
Reasonable price? 50 bucks at 1pm on weekend is insanity. Fairways are dirt and weeds. Greens are Velcro. Respectfully disagree.
