Poor Conditions and No Replay Rate

Greens were running very slow and were covered in pitch marks. Course seems to get a ton of play based on overall conditions.

They do not offer a replay rate so be ready to pay $180 for 36 holes.

Great course, tough conditions for August

This is a beautiful course. If you can play you should. Right now there are some issues in the greens and I was a little disappointed that they did not adjust the price. Conditions, as they are, are not worth $90. Having said that, when this place is in its usual condition it is a must play golf course with an incredible staff.

Old Man Review

Course was in good shape, greens were a little slow and showed multiple divot marks on greens. Sand traps need work, but most courses need sand trap work right now. Fairways were in great shape, fun challenging holes with multiple tee box options. Cart ladies came by frequently. Staff is extremely friendly and I personally love to play this course.

Great layout!

I’ve played this course a few times and normally the greens are in great shape. This time they were playing very slow, maybe because of heat they let them grow longer. A few of the green were burnt in spots

Good Course and Facilities

Governor's Towne Club offers great facilities and a challenging golf course. The opportunity is for considerable improvement for the quality of their greens. Overall the course was in good conditions, but the greens were extremely slow, and they appeared to be struggling to recover from a punching and overseeding process within the last several weeks. Crab grass and several bare spots did not help the overall feel of high quality. Also, the lack of yardage markers was a mystery. Have never played a course where yardage indicators in the fairways or on sprinkler heads was almost non existent.

I would play it again, but the current fee was to high for the quality if the course at this time.

Greens in poor shape - should have been marked as ‘aeration special’

Usually a solid course, but very disappointed this time, especially for $100. Greens in poor shape from recent aerattion and greens not even mowed recently - was like putting on dog hair. The course should have been more up-front about current course conditions.

Overpriced for the condition of the Greens

My group of friends and myself have had over 40+ rounds over the last couple years here. We were shocked at the condition of the greens. It’s like their maintenance staff went on strike. For the $90 tee time the greens had 4 ft+ dead spots on each green. The greens were comparable to a $20 executive course’s greens. Extremely bumpy and looked like you were putting on the fringe. It was similar length to how fuzzy a tennis ball is. A massive oak had fallen from previous storms blocking the cart path which understandably will take time to remove but they seemed like in no rush. I feel bad for the actual members there who have to deal with the conditions those greens were in. Then hole 6 was a mine field of Geese droppings not just a couple but the whole green was covered. My group and I love this course and it was extremely sad to see the shape of the greens since last time we played in early June. Hopefully the crew gets their act together or hire more staff because there was some type of conflict that contributed to how bad the greens were.

Gps

too many blind shots not to have GPS. For $90, not a good value. Very few yardage markers on the course, no 150 yard stakes, greens needed mowing and fungus everywhere. No would not recommend right now

Love the layout

Very disappointed today because for $70 I played with Aerated Hairy sandy greens! I have played this course a lot of times and don’t mind paying $70 but some way when you book a tee time through Golf Now they should tell you the greens have just been aerated!! I mean ever course should update golf now whether you book a hot deal or regular tee time.

Greens just punched

Very good layout and course was in excellent shape as usual except for the greens. They had very recently been punched and sanded and had not been cut for a couple days. So a bit bumpy and slow. Typically they are in very good condition. Would have been nice to know before we booked. Another note be sure your players are showing up as we had a cancellation for one of our guys and GolfNow could not help on a refund for that player as it fell I guess outside the window to modify the tee time to three players. So it was a pricier round.

Great course; greens still recovering from aeration

This is one of the better courses in Atlanta open to the public. GTC is a big course with plenty of long holes, (it stretches out to 7,300 yards from the tips) and a few intimidating forced carries. It is not particularly tight, so there is some rook to air it out. Notable holes include the par 4 4th, a long dogleg left with the green perched on a hill, the par 3 ninth, which requires a carry over water (over 200 from the back tees), the nearly drivable par 4 tenth and the long par 4 18th, a strong finishing hole. It is worth noting that the front is significantly more difficult than the back (300 yards longer from the tips), so if you’re feeling worn out when you make the turn, it will get easier.

At $65 during the week and $90 on the weekends, I would call this a value course, but the cost is fair considering the premium conditions. If you feel like treating yourself I definitely recommend it.

Note that at present (early August 2020), the greens have recently been aerated (which regrettably is not noted on golf now), so it probably makes sense to wait 2-3 weeks to make the trip and experience the normally smooth greens.

Unexpected Sanded Greens

When I booked this round, there was no notification that the greens had just been aerated, and there’s still is not a warning. Typically there is a disclaimer before you book however this was not the case. Greens were just aerated a little over a week ago and the greens were covered in a layer of sand. As for the rest of the course, it was in great shape. Very disappointing.

No notice of greens under complete renovation

I have played this place a bunch of times, I absolutely love this track. I played today with the same high expectations, but the greens were totally under renovation!!! There should have been a notice on GOLFNOW or a notification at the course. There was neither!!! Let’s say I wouldn’t go back for at least 2 to 3 weeks!! For over 70$ per person...there should have been a notice about the greens.

Awesome Course

I was looking for a last minute tee time on a Friday, and came across the member for a day rate for $90. It was one of the few tee times available at any reputable course for a Sunday morning, so we decided to give it a try. Safe to say, we were not disappointed. The course has a great layout. It's challenging from the back tees, but very fair for a decent golfer. There are some demanding tee shots and tough green locations. The lady at in the pro shop that checked us in was friendly and made us feel welcome. Range balls are included in your round, which is nice for the price you pay. The starter was friendly and kept all the groups playing a good pace. We thoroughly enjoyed our round and will be back soon.

Course was in unacceptable condition

I was really looking forward to playing here. For $100 I was expecting a pretty well maintained course.

The greens were recently aerated but that was expected. The greens had very little actual grass on them. And every green was missing chunks of grass where it was filled with sand.

The fairways were in good shape and looked nice from afar but looking closer they were all sprayed green. So everything had a green dye on it by the end if the round. Really frustrating.

Expected a much nicer experience than this.
