Governor's Towne Club

The course is in poor condition. The staff is less than helpful. Beverage cart was non existent. Significant issues on the greens. Aerated greens and no notification before play.

I played this course which although it has a great layout, is not worth the lack of courtesy shown by the staff. The greens are in AWFUL conditions. A number of greens had huge blank spots with no grass. They had been aerated and had not recovered. No one shared this before I got on the course. I booked through GolfNow and was not notified. The back side which must have been aerated the prior week recovered better, but had not been cut or rolled and so, the two sides putted unevenly. For a day that was over 90 degrees, I saw the beverage cart once in a 4 plus hour round. There was no visible Marshall or starter. When play slowed, members did not respect pace of play or let smaller groups through even with significant gaps ahead of them. With three attendants no one offered to provide any help with golf bags or a ride to and from parking lot which is a significant walk to clubhouse. Attendant in clubhouse commented on my attire in a manner that was curt. This course which seems to need public play does not appreciate it and not work returning.

We'd heard great things about Governors Towne Club. The design is excellent with many tee options, including mixed tees. Rough and fairways were in great condition. The practice area is one of the best around.

The greens, however, were bad to the point that our group instituted a two-putt max rule. For starters, they're bent grass and many courses in the area have been replacing their bent grass greens with Champions Bermuda, which holds up far better to both heavy play and the local climate. The edges of some greens were essentially without grass, Secondly, I would have appreciated the club discounting the $79 fee since the greens had been recently aerified and sanded.

I hope to go back but it won't be during summer months.

This course was beautiful!! The pace of play was perfect and the staff were more than professional! Definitely worth the cost! I will be coming back to play time and time again!

First of all this is a nice layout and a quality course.... BUT when i checked in the guy in the proshop quoted a price higher than the golf now price. I asked are you sure thats the golfnow rate. He said yes. I paid him because my phone was in cart and i figured i would check to make sure. He informed me that shirts needed to be tucked and he needed to see the other two players(my sons). to approve theyre attire. wow, Snippy people! Anyways he did overcharge and at the turn i showed him the price on my app and he said he accidentally charged me regular rate. Ha. I said i asked if that was golf now rate. He said nothing and reimbursed my credit card. Greens are bent grass. Very slow the day we played, Front nine the fairways were plugged and a complete mess back nine they were not plugged. Its a really good layout but there are many courses much better in this area. The frog/bears best and more. Ill go somewhere else from now on!

Had first tee time in the morning. Got to see deer and other wildlife. Great course and great layout. Made the turn and the crew had not gotten to the back 9 so the greens were wet and slow. Would love to play this place again maybe a little later in the morning to experience quicker greens. Great time

Shorts were considered cargo shorts so I couldn't play after driving 45 mins for the round and they didn't have any shorts in my size to buy. So if you go there it's a serious rule even if they are dress short with a pocket on the side! Sorry not a fan!!

Course was in great shape with many tees to fit any golf level. Would love to play it again as I made some stupid mistakes simply for not knowing the golf course or hole layout. Greens are big and easy to hit but undulated so need to put the ball in the right spot.

Will try and play this course every time I am in the area. Great facility all around. Range is a bit short for long hitters (300++) but can hold a lot of golfers.

I have played many courses in the NW Burbs and this is by far the best layout I have played. The conditions were 5 star. The greens were well maintained with no "bare" spots nor repairs on going. The fairways were well groomed and the rough was like most fairways I have played recently. There are several tees to make the course a challenge for any level handicap. The par 3's at the gold tees were pro distances and challenges. Nothing under 160 yards.

Great course and great practice facilities which are included in the price

We had a group of 3 people with a 2pm tee time, and the course ran out of carts. I'm not sure how this is possible - the course was not even very busy. We waited until about 2:40pm before two carts became available for us to use. By this time, a number of groups were waiting and there was quite a backup. The course itself was nice, but the staff and carts left much to be desired.

They ran out of carts. Our tee time was at 2:10. I booked it on Golfnow for $65. There were "many" groups waiting on carts. At 3:15 we were patiently waiting on carts to be brought to the driving range, then we started seeing people that we KNEW were supposed to be behind us coming up to the range with their carts. We called the proshop and they said they would have carts right up to us. We had to call again, finally we walked back to clubhouse and intercepted a cart on the way. We teed off at approximately 3:40. Luckily we were all in a position to wait it out, but what if wouldn't have been. We barely finished before dark which was an inconvenience. The person managing the shop did agree to give us the 9 hole rate which helped us feel better. Oh forgot to mention they charged us $77 per golfer even though we booked it for $65 on golf now. Luckily we paid attention to that and caught it after the fact. I understand the challenged of running a golf course, and I hope this was a one-off situation. Unfortunately I had to experience it and it was far less than ideal.

Course was in great condition and that was the reason we came.

Went to the range after my round to hit a few more balls and work some kinks out. Got kicked off and told you can only hit balls before your round if you are not a member. For the $70 fee they are charging after taxes and fees I found this extremely tacky and embarrassing. They could have just said "hey man, you’re good for now but next time just a heads up you can only hit balls before...ect" which would have saved me the embarrassing moment of having to go grab my clubs and walk off the range in front of 15 people. Plus, there were not any balls on the range before my round to begin with so one could say I was just getting my money’s worth. Normally I would not write a bad review but this really irritated me. If you want to be a private course than be a private course. if you want to be semi-private and charge $70 for people to come play then let them use the facilities for the day. I’m not saying let them play 36 holes or anything like that, but heck if they want to go hit a few more balls on the range what’s the big deal?

Course wise it is a very challenging place. Conditions were very wet just as they were the last time I played it a year or two back so not sure if there is a drainage issue. All the fairways were soaked and I don't recall there being all that much rain. Could be wrong. Won’t be back.

This course is always in excellent condition and the green contours are challenging but roll fast and true. So true I managed to knock in 3 birdies on the front nine. Not a bad hole on the golf course but you will need some local knowledge on the few blind landing areas off the tee. The par 3's are long and difficult and about the only thing not to like is finishing the front 9 on a difficult part 3 over water. There are reachable par 5's from the Blue Tees. The scenery is picturesque. The staff can be a little snooty to non-members. But if you can get over that, you are in for a real great golfing experience.

Always enjoy GTC, a little slow today but course in good shape.

Last time i played the towne club it was late in the summer and the bent greens were in terrible shape. There were multiple greens with that were either burnt up or had crabgrass on them. The superintendent has really turn them around and they are rolling fast and true. The rest of the course is in the best shape possible for winter. The course has a good mix of long challenging holes with forced carries that make you think about every shot from tee to green and short holes that give you a really good opportunity at birdie. The practice facilities some of the best I've seen at both public and private courses. The driving range is all grass and they set up titelist range balls pyramid style at every station.

I'm very certain I will be back to play this track again as it was one the best all around experiences I've had at any course
