About
Situated along Florida's Gulf Coast, Riverside Golf Club in Ruskin is part of a peaceful retirement community. At just over 6,100 yards from the tips, the golf course is on the short side but it still offers an enjoyable round. From the back tees, the course actually presents quite a formidable test. The layout meanders along a creek before wandering across idyllic farmland and finishing along the river bluffs overlooking Hayes Bayou. The diverse terrain provides an array of scenery as well as a variety of different challenges. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides, waiting to swallow errant shots. Riverside Golf Club's layout combines more difficult holes with player-friendly features, which makes it approachable for players of any skill level.

course for the "happy hooker"
Course has several holes designed for the right to left shot around water. Bring extra balls! Shot placement off the tee is exacting on most holes. The course could be a much better value and infinitely more enjoyable if they would just put some water on it. The fairways were very dry and they were scalped too short for the dry conditions. I like to hit off turf and you are hard pressed to find very much of that. Staff were very nice and pace of play was good. The carts do not have gps on them and yardage markers were not apparent in most places. I drove almost an hour to get there and not sure I would do it again but if you are close and want to play some inexpensive golf, it's worth a try. Rain or irrigation would help a lot.

Make a new friend
Try to be paired with someone familiar with the course (make a new friend). There are several holes that have blind problems that will cost you strokes (and balls) if you are not aware. This lends a little bit of mystery to the course as well as a few strokes. The greens were on the slow side but in decent condition. Sand bunkers needed more sand and/or maintenance but overall the course was a good value for the fees. I will try to play it again just to prove to myself I can do better (typical golfer)!

Fairway was a little rough. Lot of short grass and some dirt spots. But for paying 35 dollars for 18 couldn’t ask for anything more. Was 15 minutes late to tee time because got lost in neighbor hood. The staff was lovely and didn’t say a word “course wasn’t busy though”. Would I pay 70 to play here, probably not. But couldn’t ask for anything more and had a good time

Riverside in Ruskin
3rd time playing in the last week and still can not say anything negative about the course. The staff working there is fabulous and very well versed in customer service. No question asked was met with a well I really don't know. The friendlyness of the people we ran into was great. Will be back again and again...Course may look easy because of the distance but it is not an easy course but one you must manage every shot...

It's ok on a budget
The course is short and in a retirement community so expect long rounds during the enter months, with high fees. Come back in the summer for better rates and the course is practically wide open. The greens are slow and inconsistent. More importantly call the course to book your teetime, golfnow is a rip-off, there prices don't beat what you would pay booking from the course.

Course
I've played the course 2yrs ago and didn't get a chance last year but saw the reviews and decided to play it. The course in very good shape alot better than in the past. The greens are smooth but a little on the slow side but they hold shots perfectly. The tees for the most part are very good. The fairways are still a little thin but soft so hitting off them is very easy so you will be able to hit your shots correctly. The staff is fantastic and it was a nice round of Golf. Will defenately be back.

Half of the course is surrounded by homes, other half in nature. Good greens, nice layout. Would go back.
