Amazing staff
The lady at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful, definitely a great place to practice for the price.
Good for a Hot Deal
There was no difference between rough or fairway. Greens were inconsistent in speed, but at least rolled pretty true. Unlevel tee boxes need to be at the very least leveled out. Course structure was ok, had a few holes that were not thought out well.
Use to be great value
They have got to figure out the fairways. Nothing but patches of crabgrass. With the prices continuing to climb (use to just be 25 for a full round), the quality of the course has gone down. The restaurant burnt down years ago and they've been operating out of a storage container ever since. Storm knocked down the driving range net and it just continues to sit there. The course could be something great if they put the money in to it, but continuing to raise prices while not seeing it being invested back in to the course is disappointing.
First time player here
The course layout was great. Conditions could have been better, but I have played on worse courses around the area. Some of the fairways could have been mowed, to keep the tall spikes of grass/weed from growing up, impeding play. Otherwise, it was a decent course to play. Some of the holes were a challenge to play, and that was what was interesting about the Abbey Course. I will be back.
Course closed - paid, but couldn't play
It had been raining and I tried calling the course to see if they were open. After 10 rings came the message "enter your remote access code," which I had no idea what that was. Then the line was disconnected. Their website said they were open. So, my wife and I drove to the course, only to find a note on the door to the golf shack saying they were closed when it rains. Would have been nice to have a voice mail or a message on the phone saying that, or even on their website. Then, when I tried to contact GolfNow (they're the ones I booked this through) in order to get a refund/credit, they have absolutely no way to contact them directly, despite saying they have online chat available from 8:00am - 5:00pm. So, I'm out $61.00, all because I didn't cancel, hoping the light rain would stop. This is Florida, after all. I may as well have taken $61.00 and flushed it down the toilet. Doing that would have at least saved me the time and gas it took to drive to St. Leo and back home. And for an organization (GolfNow) not to have any way of contacting them in situations like this is really poor also. Where can I "rate" them? And I'm forced to put in a date for when I played, even though I didn't get to play, as well as responding "Yes" or "No" as to whether I'd recommend the course to a friend. I think it's unfair to require a response to that, it's unfair to St. Leo and to me as the victim of these circumstances. But to give St. Leo the benefit of the doubt, I'm checking the "Yes" block.
Run Down
Course has good bones, but is just run down. The fairways are invisible, because the entire thing is covered in footling weeds.I have played even cheaper courses than this and been much happier with the product. Apparently their bar burned down. Now everything is ran out of a shipping container. You can still buy beer and a snickers there. Bring cash. They have a $1 credit card fee on every purchase. Driving range is sandy too but cheap.
Course needs some TLC
Looks like they’re waiting to turn the course into a subdivision. Needs a lot of maintenance to improve it.
Buyer beware
Found a cheap rate and jumped on it. It’s my fault for not researching. It was a decent ride away and we still only played 5 holes and left. Not much grass, it’s a shooting gallery with holes crossing over each other. Two golf carts not working properly.
??
Course should be listed "under repair", but it is not
Fun course in the hills
It's not a fancy course but it's a fun place to play and good value. Greens were generally in good shape and rolled true. The layout is really fun and the scenery is very nice. Cool to have some hills on the course in this part of Florida. No restaurant and the pro shop is a temporary building, but it's a fun place for a casual round.
Great layout
I enjoy this course, it fun exciting and love #10 par 6, Don't find many par 6's.
weed patch
the greens were fair but the rest of theccourse was nothing but weeds and bare ground. It's the worst course I've played in Florida.
value
I felt ripped off as the course off the street rate is $30. for 18 holers w/cart { tax incl ]
I paid as a VIP member on Golf Now Hot Deals $34. each
What is a fairway?
The “fairways” are the exact same unkept mix of random grasses as the rough. You are either in the rough or on the green.
Front 9 is an interesting design with real potential, it has some fun challenging tee shots. But then even if you drive it far and perfectly straight, you’re in the rough because THERE IS NO FAIRWAYS. Back 9 is a goofy mess crammed on the property. Weird par 6 and some miserable holes.
