The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Friendly staff
The highlands was a very nice course. Was able to get on and play early. Great pace of play. Staff very friendly. The greens were a little rough, but overall a wonderful experience.
Incredible Improvements
The tees and fairways at the Highlands are as good right now as I have ever seen them. It’s remarkable the turnaround here over the past year. While the greens are an issue, there is no better value in Sarasota right now. I will be back often this summer.
Greens are in horrible condition
Almost every green was patched with sand. The price was decent so can’t really complain but not fun putting under those conditions
Highlands
The day was warm and sunny but not suffocatingly hot. Tees and fairways were in good condition but greens were bad and need lots of attention. A ton of bare and brown spots. I like the layout and hope they get their greens in better shape. Staff was friendly.played about average 87.
Greens are horrendous and the need to cut trim and general maintenance.
Great course but no maintenance now and it shows it age
Getting worse
I’ve played highlands off and on for five years now, was excited last year because they closed the front 9 down for 7 months to “repair the greens”…… two weeks after it reopened the greens were as bad as before, big bare sand spots, weeds growing all over and apparently no watering or mowing. They are close to unplayable now…..very sad cause it’s a nice layout and the area is wooded and pretty. Seems all the money and workers are tending to the country club part of the Meadows and letting the public courses go to pot… good thing there are lots of other public courses to play in Sarasota/Bradenton, this one is not one of them.
Nice course except for the greens
I have played the Highlands a few times in the past but that was 3-4 years ago. The course has a nice layout and the tee boxes and fairways were in good shape. But more than half of the greens were in poor shape, particularly on the front nine. The areas with no grass were fast but then an area on the same green might have grass and have moderate speed. In fairness we have had a terrible drought the last 2 months.
Starter
I have no idea what the starters name was on that day, but he was definitely an asset to the golf course. He was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and very attentive to our needs, we appreciate him very much. The four of us are played. When we were on the.
Still needs work
Pluses:
1 Staff is great
2 Water, ice and bathrooms at six locations along course best in Sarasota
3 Course layout is great
Minuses:
1. Greens in disrepair, sanded plugged or missing grass
2. Tee boxes hard as a rock
3. Thin grass and many under repair areas with some crab grass on fairways
Nice golf course
The fairways were in nice shape. The greens could use some work. I liked the layout of the course. I have played their sister course “The Groves” several times. This was my first time time playing “The Highlands. I would recommend this course.
Greens need work
Title says it all, the greens must have some disease.... bare mud on some holes... nice layout and challenging holes, but the greens were a disappointment.... staff said the course rough in some spots, but they are trying.... hope they get it back... price was cheap enough and played 18 under 2 hours... so that was nice...
