The Highlands Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Greens
The fairways and rough are in great shape. Course layout is good. The greens are terrible. Had to institute a two put max. Too bad!
Not a golf course
I used to love this course before icon ruin your golf course started managing the property. Many members left, when will this club wake up and get rid of the incompetent management group that’s killing this course. Greens are a disaster, the fairways are ok and t boxes are ok. Amenities are good with ice and water stations on course as well as restrooms that are gross but available. Course design is good but management sucks! Wake up!
Worst Ever
The condition of the greens are almost unplayable. I'm very disappointed!!! Thy should close the course.
Grens were brown
Course is just OK, The greens are horrible, Very little grass, All brown and black Avoid this course
Very poor
I booked as a single player as my friends had gone home the cart guys where very unhelpful and when I arrived at the 1st I was told that I could not play with the original group tee time as they didn’t want to play with me and had gone, I was suggested I played on my own, I said that this was not why I booked and would wait, it was then suggested I played the meadow course as I could be done by 12pm , I play off 11 hcp and said I wanted to play the longer course and would wait, 30 mins later I tee of with 2 other single players that where great fun but 5 hours later finally completed round. I had received lots of emails regarding the highland course and all it refurbishment including greens and fairways overhaul last year and to be fair I could not see any difference in the course since I last played it 2 years ago. The layout is great but the greens and fairways and tee boxes are no better than a municipal course.I wish you all the best but will leave playing again dispite all your hype.
Cow pasture
This course was great before electricity, it’s in disrepair front 9 is a joke greens are dirt, cracking rock hard, back nine layout is better can’t recommend!
Greens. Greens!
How coild the greens be any worse? Nice course screwed up by the worse greens i have ever played on in my 50 years of playing golf.
High lands
Course is in terrible condition right now. Tee boxes and greens are in bad shape. Would recommend playing the groves right now.
Poor greens
The overall condition of the course was ok but the greens were in really poor condition. I understand that are trying to address the issue but for now I would avoid this course.
Bad greens
Staff was great, very friendly.
But no off course amenities or staff friendliness could make up for the TERRIBLE shape the greens were in.
Yet the course offers no discount to its
users for the terrible green conditions.
Shame on you.
bad,bad,bad
this course is in the worst shape in sarasota and area....greens were bare,no grass and hard as concrete....do not play as they redid the greens and they are really, realy bad
Stay away
I’m local and I’ve played this course dozens of times. I thought the price was high for an afternoon tee time but went anyway. Not only did the clubhouse not inform us of the worst greens I’ve ever seen, but the practice green is in good shape. So deceiving. 1-9 greens were like dried up riverbeds, peeling up all over, you can hear your ball crunching as it rolls. Truly the worst ever, unplayable. The back nine greens were a slight improvement. Need some BIG improvements or local interest will die.
Very bad greens
The back nine greens are fair at best.
The front nine greens are absolutely terrible, should not even be called greens.
There are five public golf courses that have closed in the last 10 years in Sarasota.
Making it possible for the Meadows to have “crap greens”, charge unreasonable pricing and still get the public to play.
When the snow birds leave this course we be played by few locals.
Highlands
We have played Highlands many times over the years. We hadn't played this year until prices dropped. The greens were a mess. The fairways were ok and tee boxes fair.
