The Highlands Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Highlands
I’ve played this course maybe 6/7 times over the past 4 yrs and this was the poorest condition it’s been in. The greens were slow and beat up. Very disappointing. The rough needed mowing as we lost a few balls in the rough not far from the fairway. The fairways themselves were fine and the tee boxes as well. I like the course layout but I may not be back unless I hear the greens have been improved. Thanks
Great Staff, nice layout
We play this course on a semi regular basis, the staff are very friendly, the layout of the course is good. The greens were in real bad shape and on the mends.
Under repair
Greens were all under repair . Tee boxes were a mess.
Needs attention
The course has mostly narrow fairways … the second cut is deep you won’t find your ball if you’re off the fairway … fairways are very fair lots of mowed over weeds … you really can’t play “down “ you have to roll the ball to get some decent grass under it … course layout is good challenging approach shots but your hitting of hard pan … the greens SUCK … bald spots diseased areas you have to roll your ball to an area that. Doesn’t have a diseased bald spot or your ball will bobble to the hole like putting on asphalt …their course needs care … water weed killer fertilizer it will $40.000 dollar you to death but if they can’t afford to take care of the course then it will take years for it to groom into a decent course ….it has potential but management has neglected to properly address the needs … it’s decent goat ranch about somes it up ….
Highlands in the Summer
Clubhouse staff very good. Cart attendants act like they hate their job. The layout of the course is one of great promise. Quality holes with some challenge to it. The greens and tees are not good. Not sure the last time they changed the cup placement. Honestly loved the layout. The course just lacks the attention it deserves.
Tee to the Green in Fabulous Shape
The course is. In great overall shape with the exception of the greens. The bermuda rough is fierce so hitting fairways is a must. The condition of the fairways including around the greens was excellent. The sand in the traps responded consistently. Pace of play was very good at 3.5 h for a 3-some. The condition of the greens were rough. The.greens are sanded and it was apparent new bermuda is beginning to take hold as they try to revive the growth. Consequently, they ran very slow at about 5 on the stimp. A true roll was hard to find but at least all the green speeds were consistent. I did leave more than a few putts short which led to 34 putts. The tee grounds were pristine. Tee to green conditions at the Highlands are in excellent shape with only the recovering bermuda greens an issue on the greens. I still think this course is an excellent value since every lie is a perfect lie and the pace of play is very good. They offer ice, cups & water throughout the course and the new carts with GPS are very comfortable.
First time Playing
First time playing, played at 1157 and starter let me go early. The price was right on GN . Nice course , fairways good (ruff was cut to distinguish from fairways) .Greens were not in great shape. Will play play again .
Mixed bag
Upon arrival - the bag cart guy was not pleasant at all. Dude looked like he hated his job and where he worked .. after checking in for my prepaid round I asked for a small bucket of balls to loosen up which the pro shop guys said, “you can’t have practice balls ….those are only for members”…. Ooooookay. Not a good way to attract new players ..
The course layout was cool- but the greens were disastrous! Worse greens in all of the area…. Needless to say, I won’t be back
Surprised
Condition of greens prevented 5 stars for me. I know they are working on them. Also, my high rating is based on what we paid. $30 for round and I know that is s not normal.
Greens in bad need of repair, especially on the back nine
Great Course
It was absolutely amazing I had a great time with my friends
Course conditions getting better.
Some greens still a rocky road but maintenance is working on it
Good Value for the $
Fun and challenging course. Fairways are in decent shape but the greens could use some help. Overall is def worth the money.
