Coyote Springs Golf Club

About
Coyote Springs Golf Club (previously known as Coyote Springs - The Chase Course) is located less than one hour from the Las Vegas Strip and just 45 minutes from Mesquite, Nevada. This Jack Nicklaus Signature Course is highly regarded as a must-play by Vegas golf aficionados. The course's stunning setting is sometimes referred to as "nature's cradle" since it's situated in a verdant valley completely surrounded by majestic mountains and peaks. While the scenery may be beautiful, don't let it distract you from the golf course's many challenges. Water and bunkers await you at almost every turn. One of the most memorable holes is the par-5 second, whose bunkers at the second landing area will force you to think carefully about how to approach the Augusta-like green. In addition to the golf course, Coyote Springs offers one of the largest practice facilities in the country. This 19-acre facility includes 13 target greens and a short game area for pitching, chipping, and bunker practice.

Ed...Megan...and everyone was very helpful and Professional!
We really enjoyed the challenge and course layout every hole had a picture opportunity...Of all the courses we played through out the winter this was in the top 5 was a pure pleasure to find this Gem out in the middle of know where Thanks again for accommodating us as we completely enjoyed the day...Steve and Marnie
Must play
Must play course carved into the middle of the desert. Amazing how it was created amongst rock and sand.
Tough course for beginning season round
I was excited when I booked my first round at Coyote Springs GC, but I quickly learned this is not a course for beginner golfers or for early season rounds for mid handicappers; as my first round of the season, my skill level was not adequate to meet the challenging course layout and extremely difficult greens; for these reasons, my counter parts and I struggled throughout the round which was also affected by the wind (12-18 mph), but we also had to wait for two very slow groups of older players (4-somes) from hole #2 through #18 which resulted in a 5-hour, unnecessarily slow round, and there wasn’t a marshall to move play along; it took 2.5 hours to make the turn, and it got maintained thereafter; the clubhouse staff, cart/check-in staff, and starter were extremely friendly, and I think the course has a lot of fantastic qualities to make me want to play it again later in the season when I have refined my play, personally; the greens were so fast and not receptive, and the hole locations were not inviting or friendly; each of us in our 3-person group putted a short putt that ran off the green which is uncommon on most public golf courses; my expectations were not met from a course of this magnitude for my first round, but I will consider playing it again but later in the season.
I do not recommend this course to any beginners, high handicappers, or occasional golfers; the challenge will frustrate you and the groups behind you.
Awesome layout and scenery, but room for improvement
I have mixed feelings about this course. I wish I would’ve known that the clubhouse and bar were really the only place to get food and drinks because it is a DRIVE to get to the driving range and the first tee. You don’t ever come back around between nines and they didn’t have an open halfway house. The course itself is a really fun layout with lots of great views for pictures. The big problem I had with the course was the conditions on the greens. They were absolutely burnt out and there were multiple places where the replacement patches of sod on the green had already died. The greens are also very undulating, which would be fun if it was possible to get the ball to stop when putting. It was very possible to hit a good putt and have the ball trickle into a collection area off the green 10 yards away. The course has tons of potential, but really needs to put some TLC into reviving the greens.
Amazing course and layout
Great conditions. Excellent course. Challenging yet fun! Staff members are very helpful and friendly.
What Happened to this Wonderful Course
This has been a destination golf course when we are in Las Vegas for us since 2012.
The condition of this course now is truly awful.
1. Bunkers had grass sprouting in them, felt and fabric sticking up all over and rocks everywhere.
2. Fairways were as mostly dead and patches than grass.
3. Greens were the worst putting surface I have played on.
4. Collars and areas around green were unplayable. Mostly dead and clumpy.
Would no recommend this formerly excellent course to anyone in its present condition and setup. So sad.
Coyote Springs
Sand traps are awful. Rest of course is okay. Conditions have deteriorated terribly from 4/5 years ago.
A long drive from Vegas Strip
Overall the layout and course is gorgeous.
Greens are in good not great shape.
A little pricey for a course 60+ miles away.
Greens
The Greens need some TLC. Plug, sand and overseed. Something to help them hold. They are like concrete. Can’t remember the last time I was on the green and puttted off the green!!
Played here several times over the years. Never had greens like this!!
Want to be beat up badly play this course
This was highly recommended to us, first time played.
Conditions were like a run down public course quality. Very Bad bunkers lots of exposed Felt and rocks everywhere and you can’t avoid them because the landscape feeds balls directly to them.
Greens are terrible and do not hold golf balls. No GPS and scorecard are terrible have no idea where to go.
No clubhouse no locker room. Free range is very nice.
Not worth an hour plus drive from downtown Vegas .. Pauitte Golf course is FAR BETTER hands down! Have a few memorable holes like picture attached.
Kind of a sad experience
This place has potential but the greens just basically make it unplayable. They probably roll about 27 on the stimp meter and are as hard as concrete. Makes putting and chipping border on the impossible, and causes huge pace of play issues as everyone in every group is spending so much time on the greens. In fact, in the group in front of us they were all seniors and on one of the greens every single one of them putted, missed the hole, and their balls all rolled off the green and about 15 yards down into the fairway. But because they had some mobility issues, they had to get their carts to go down and hit them. And then repeat hole after hole after hole. We eventually just started to play where it was an automatic two putt on every hole just to avoid the frustrations. Whoever set the pins didn't make it any easier either because most were set at the edges of slopes so that compounded the problem. Word on the street is that this was a recent takeover by Troon Golf and that's why the conditions have deteriorated, which if true is a reason to avoid their other properties as well.
Also making things difficult is the location. It's quite a way out of Vegas and up in a highland area, so they'll have frost delays just about every day in the cooler months. So my 1120am tee time was actually moved to 1240pm, which makes finishing tough when you're up against a super slow round. It was also moderately windy on the day we played but the cart girl told us it was actually one of the least windy days they'd had so far that year. Which means expect a LOT of wind if you go here most of the time.
Highlight is the course design which is excellent, but that's the expectation from a Nicklaus course. However, for the other factors in play I would give this a miss even though it's a little cheaper than other Vegas area courses.
Worth the Drive
Greens were very thin and fast .
Expect greens to really improve with some heat.
Course quite challenging .
Very scenic .
Definitely worth the drive .
Pace of play slow only because of frost delay.
Great course and worth the drive from Vegas
Love this course, isolated, quiet, great layout, conditions, price is never super high vs. courses closer to town that are very much overrated (Hello Bali Hai). Really nice practice area, I'll be back!
Beautiful
Course was a little dry but in great shape , greens are extremely fast . All in all would recommend to play .
Worth the distance from the Vegas Strip
The course was in fantastic shape for the middle of February! The course lay out & design make it challenging for sure, but fair if you have your accuracy & distance control working for you! I personally struggled with the downhill putts on the front nine, but was able to adjust by the end of the round. I live & play in Washington state & the greens were much different than I'm used to only because the ball reacted differently with spin. I played from the whites, and I felt for the most part I was able to go into most of the par 4's with a short iron in hand.
Frigid
I've played this course mid-winter for the last 15 years and have watched it slowly deteriate. The original plan has not materialized and the course is suffering. The staff are excellent and couldn't be more friendly but they are limited on what they can do to make any improvements. I wish this venture the very best and hope its future is bright.
Blowing BIG TIME
It was the windiest golf day of my life. Normally, I love this course but it was stupid windy and because I drove ALL THE WAY out there - and it is OUT THERE - and I can't ever get pre-paid refunded, I gutted it out for 17 holes...by the 18th I just couldn't take it any more.
