It was good for $9
The staff was very friendly. I knew going into it that this was a 9 hole course played twice and that was ok. What I didn't know was that this was a glorified pitch and putt. I was shocked to learn that of the 9 holes, 6 of them were par 3's and the other 3 were par 4's. Yup, no par 5's. Of the three par 4's you can only use driver on one (have to lay up before the creek on the other 2). The greens were not good at all, weeds on the greens made each putt look like popcorn was rolling to the hole. I know the point of this course is to get kids started playing golf and it is PERFECT for that. I think that is absolutely great and I love that they are doing that.
Wonderful course for the money
Glad to see the "Y" was able to put such a beautiful piece of property to such good use.
Nice, laid back, 9 hole course
I have been wanting to get back into golf for a long time after not playing for 4yrs. This course is perfect for tuning up the game. No par 5s and some short par 3s but it was exactly what I needed and you can't beat the price.
Bad day on course, don't go
Get there 10 minutes early due to traffic, but cashier with TERRIBLE attitude doesn't care, cancels our tee time. Gives us attitude throughout the whole time on trying to get a new tee time, forces us to walk with five people ( fifth person was willing to pay money, which is saying no to more money but it could hold up people, but I'll get to that later), on a 9 hole tee time, which I saw online that the tee time was 18 hole w/ golf carts so he practically lied to us, then he says we have to hurry because people would be right behind us, but there is no one for 30 minutes behind us, another lie. I'd really like that guy fired for TERRIBLE service and what other people before me had to go through him feel, that or I'd like to ruin his day just like he did to me on my golf day. Oh and the greens are in terrible shape.
The worst greens I have ever seen. Unplayable.
This is the home course for the First Tee of Austin. They are doing an injustice teaching the kids to play here with greens like this.
Great practice round
This is a great place for kids and beginners or any golfer to practice their short game.
The greens are in pretty rough shape this time of year.
Horrible
Only after we had booked did we find out this was a 9 hole course, basically a par 3 aside from a couple of the holes. The first hole is nice but the Greens are in terrible condition. I have only been paying for 6 years but this is without a doubt the worst greens I have ever putted on. The ball was jumping all over the place, all the greens were brown, with patches of green. No value for money at all, you could have for a few extra dollars gone and played an 18 hole course that was well taken care of with Friendly staff not some smug 16 years old sitting behind the counter. A total waste of money and a real let down. I should have taken photos, but do not believe what you read on the site, lush greens! They look as though sheep have been grazing on them during the day and a RAVE has been going on at night.
Great short gane practice course
Staff very friendly, Great prices, good practice area.
Great beginner course or for practice.
First course I've ever played on and I've been back five times now. Only par 3's and 4's, but great for a beginner.
Great value and Fri afternoon course
Had a blast. Staff was great. Course was in rough condition, but tis the season.
This course is a lot of fun.
My girlfriend loves this course because it isn't as difficult as most. It definitely offers some challenges to anyone's par-3 play, and is a great learning course for mid to long iron play. We enjoyed it tremendously !!!!
This is a great practice course
Penick is a 9 hole course, with a 3 hole practice course, a driving range, chipping green and putting green. This is a great place to knock the rust off or polish your skills for your weekend play with friends. Try it during the week.
Solid course for those that like to have fun playing golf.
Definitely would come back. Good course to come spend a saturday afternoon at.
Great condition but not challenging
If you're looking to tee off with irons on 7 out of 9 holes, this is the course for you. The fee par fours they do have require you to lay up to avoid hazards and potential pit falls. The course it self was in great condition for the price.
Only play if you are looking for really cheap golf!
Cart paths are little more than mud and rock, very messy. Greens were inconsistent, some were fast while others were slow, was hard to gauge how to play them. Staff was friendly.
Great Family Course
I take my sons to this course often. Good for younger players with only two Par 4's and a lot of short Par 3's. Easy to get around the course if you want to walk.
Great value and great course.
I enjoy playing at Harvey Penick. Though it is just a 9 hole golf course, they do a great job of keeping the course in great condition. With the exception of the 6th hole green. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
